This week Divya and Ravisha are joined by Emily Brennan, a Phoenix-based therapist, mental health advocate, and host of Because We Went To Therapy podcast. Emily is committed to cultural curiosity, anti-racism, and is not only a colleague to the CB duo, but also a close friend (Divya is the Matron of Honor in Emily's wedding this October!). The conversation is inspired by BIPOC Mental Health Month and how Divya, Ravisha, and Emily know how friendship plays a huge role into one's well-being and mental health.
The three of them know that race can be a tough topic to talk about, and how as a society we more-so discuss 'interracial relationships' (romantic) but not as much friendships. (A 2014 study showed that 3 out of 4 white people do not have a BIPOC friend...wild!!!) They start by reflecting on how race plays into friendships from a young age, and how as people get older they tend to talk less about race. Divya and Ravisha share their experiences with interracial relationships - and how their experiences shaped their own racial and cultural identity development.
Divya shares her experience being mostly in interracial friendships (how most her friends are white) and how healing discussing race and culture has been in her friendships. She discusses Emily's advocacy and curiosity in their own friendship and how her cultural curiosity gave her room to feel seen, validated, and normalize her cultural experiences.
Along with lots of real talks, authenticity, and diving deep in this episode, the three cover...

Join Divya and Ravisha this week as they break down a universal emotional experience that many people experience, yet no one talks about... loneliness.
Divya uses her knowledge and research as a therapist to share how and why loneliness is so prevalent in young adulthood (ages 18-40) and how transitioning, outgrowing relationships, and self-discovery play huge roles in the experience of loneliness. Together Divya and Ravisha get real about their own struggles with loneliness - the pressure to fit in, self-doubt, and how to navigate relationships that aren't serving them. They reflect on their relationships from college days and how they have dramatically shifted into adulthood.
In this episode, you'll find them talk about..

Divya and Ravisha welcome their first guest to the podcast, Linisha Basu! Linisha is a first-generation American and child of immigrants who left the comfort of her corporate job to pursue her dream of Bollywood and move to India. YES, India.
The Conversations Brewing hosts ask Linisha about her relationship with culture, and how it developed over the years - from living in a suburb of Michigan where Linisha was one of the only Indians in her school to following her dreams in the world of Bollywood.
Linisha shares how she overcame her fears of failure, cultural standards, and finding herself while embracing her culture and authenticity. The three of them discuss how negative thoughts can get in the way of following your dreams and share personal stories about how the pressures of cultural and familial standards have prevented them from jumping into their dreams. Linisha shares her advice about how she navigates the "haters" and uses all energy (positive and negative) toward cultivating a life that is driven by her values and passions.
They end by discussing how they create confidence in their goals, shift their energy toward productive spaces, and continuously adapt to their culture. Linisha shares her unique experience here with how she adjusted to living in India after spending decades in America - but through the ups and downs, how she kept creating the life she desired.

Divya and Ravisha get real on a topic that brought them together through their childhood, being children of immigrants. The two of them break down expectations, family pressure, and holding parts of culture while choosing to let go of others.
They reflect on how their journey as children of immigrants developed from starting out in grade school and trying to fit in with the kids around them to breaking cultural barriers in their adult life.
Getting emotional about their upbringing and the sacrifices their parents made, they get vulnerable about how immigrant guilt and anxiety has heavily influenced their life and decisions. This episode is incredibly important to them - as it's a major reason they started this podcast - to create conversations about culture that they wish that they had growing up to normalize the countless struggles that come with being a first-generation immigrant.
In this episode they discuss...

In a recent poll that Divya did, we found out that almost everyone has at least ONE long-distance friend. With so many of us not having friends near us in proximity - why the heck don’t we talk more about these types of friendships, and how difficult they are?!?
In this episode, Divya and Ravisha dive into understanding your wants + needs so you can understand your friends, how to stop playing the ‘assumption game’, and share the self-work they’ve done that have helped them show up even better as friends.
The two of them have over 15 years of navigating reciprocity, how to show up, and tune into themselves. They discuss how their friendship has progressed over the decades and how their own self-work (thank you therapy!) has guided them in their communication and advocating for their needs as they venture long-distance friendships in adulthood.
Some topics the two of them dive into…

Welcome to the first episode of Conversations Brewing, with your hosts Divya and Ravisha. Divya is a mental health therapist and Ravisha is a healthcare researcher, they are best friends for over 15 years who are passionate about de-stigmatizing wellness topics and sharing their struggles around culture and finding their authenticity (with the hopes it inspires others to do the same).
You may wonder “who are Divya and Ravisha?”. Well in this episode, they break down who they are, how they became friends (spoiler: they strongly despised each other at first), and how they used their opposite personalities to create a strong foundation as best friends. It was important for them to create that strong foundation in middle school because they went away to different colleges and got jobs 1,000 miles apart - so have been in a LDF (long distance friendship) for almost 10 years.
Episode one starts off strong - showcasing Divya and Ravisha’s humor and playful banter while also sharing their real life stories and how it impacted their self-esteem, mental health, and world view.
