Privilege is something we all benefit from in some form or another. While it is irrefutable, as soon as we try to cast a light on aspects of our privilege (eg. White privilege, able-bodied, heterosexual, etc.), people rail, scream and gaslight. Perhaps it is in our wiring to look at things as a zero-sum game, however, progress as a society is dependent on us recognizing that rising tides truly do raise all ships.

Critical conversations require more than just an astute command of language and exceptional listening skills, they also require three things that can inspire alignment and change:
1.Architect your unlearning by disrupting your narrative.
2.Look beyond personal responsibility and challenge systems of oppression.
3.Prioritize curiosity and interrogation over sensationalism and rhetoric.

Until next time—be well, be courageous.
The voices in your head are loud and often the expressions and stories of scarcity, fear, doubt and bias that were formed by your environment, your family, your experiences and society. Though not always purely negative, these stories do inform our beliefs (sometimes self- limiting) which ultimately guides behavior and action; in essence keeping us stuck. In this episode, Ashley and Mark discuss.
- Breaking through narratives that do not fit with your why or your ideal view for life
- Challenging the “No Excuses” rhetoric
- Being unapologetically intentional about your priorities

We're not wasting any time with this one. It's a little heavy, but definitely worth the listen.
Progress cannot come without discomfort. So, ignoring ideas, policies and actions that create discomfort just allows more of the same to flourish. In this episode, we talk about everything from Black History Month to book bans to the murder of Tyre Nichols; cap-stoning a theme that discriminatory systems are alive and well … and that is what makes them so insidious.

Here's a non-exhaustive list of really annoying things that are exclusionary, mean, shame-inducing, or just plain stupid:
This week's topics isn't pulled from one particular previous episode, but many that we’ve talked about through all seasons.
You can’t talk about fitness without talking about wellness, boundaries, fear and courage, privilege, cultural appropriation, yoga, kids in schools and the failure of PE class, body image, gender and sexuality, community…all of it.
We have a feeling this one may need a part two in the future...

Is 'canceling' a thing we still do? What about calling out? Or calling in? Are we shaming and bullying or demanding accountability?
As promised, we're diving into some of our early episodes to explore how our opinions have changed. 2020 was an incredibly charged year for many reasons, and while we aren't carrying any regrets, we acknowledge that in some cases, there's way more nuance than we previously thought. We're not letting anyone off the hook here, rather we're exploring the kinds of skills needed to create actual and lasting change.

Welcome back and Happy New Year!
Can you believe this marks the start of 6 seasons of Conversations in Courage?
To have almost 20,000 downloads in 80 episodes gives us an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride for something we created at our kitchen table at the height of the pandemic in hopes that we could create a community of people interested in becoming better at dismantling systems of oppression.
So, thank you for being a part of this community!
In today's conversation, we cover how we look at goals at the beginning of the year as well as how we want to structure this season, using the principles of neuroplasticity as our guide.

Season Finale!
For our last episode of 2023 (!), we're diving into how to be comfortable in spaces that hold potential danger, how eating and exercising consistently is really the key to success, plus we give you some ideas for unconventional gifts this holiday season.
Enjoy and have a Happy New Year!
Mark and Ash

In this episode Ashley and Mark discuss their thoughts about the origin (and false narrative) around this US holiday as well as their challenge to themselves and each of you to use this as another catalyst for allyship; moving beyond the superficial into helping create a community and a world we can truly be thankful for.
Cheers!

Buckle up kids! This week we're talking about...pop culture?
We know, not necessarily a courageous conversation, but still hopefully entertaining nonetheless!
Topics include:
Politics (obviously)
Love is Blind (have you seen this show?)
Twitter (ugh)
We hope you enjoy!
