Chapel Hill Mayor Pam Hemminger spoke with 97.9 The Hill's Andrew Stuckey on Friday, May 26th.  She discussed the latest on the town's proposed budget, which includes an almost 10% increase in the town's property tax rate. She also shared the latest on discussions to allow more density in some neighborhoods, and the latest from UNC Health on their Eastowne development.  She also mentioned upcoming weekend events, including government offices being closed for the Memorial Day Holiday.

Chair of the Orange County Commissioners Jamezetta Bedford spoke with 97.9 The Hill's Andrew Stuckey on Wednesday, May 24th.  She discussed the latest budget work session and some minor amendments that may be made to the budget as it works toward approval. She also gave an update on meeting with some county departments, including the decision to eliminate the county's pet registration fee. She also discussed the reopening of Blackwood Farm Park in Orange County, and previewed the opening of a new Fire and EMS station in Hillsborough.

Chair of Orange County Commissioners Jamezetta Bedford spoke with 97.9 The Hill's Andrew Stuckey on Wednesday, May 17th.  She discussed the board's decision to hire a consultant to help update the county's comprehensive plan. Included will be an update of  the climate action plan and a greater focus on minority neighborhoods. She also discussed area high school robotics teams that recently competed at state and national competitions. She also discussed the UPROAR Arts festival coming to Orange County in July. Finally, the board approved three new cites to be designated as historic.

She offered condolences to the family and loved ones of Chapel Hill Police Officer Mike Mineer, who died in an automobile accident off duty earlier this week. Also included is a lengthy discussion of the initial budget proposal from Interim Town Manager Chris Blue. The budget proposal increases the budget 11% from the previous year. She also discussed the use of the town's ARPA funds--as voted on by the public.
