Cougar Tailgate

BYU football, basketball, soccer, and more are all in action today. Football is riding high after a big rivalry win to take control of the Old Wagon Wheel last week against Utah St. Now the focus is on the Liberty Flames, and their play-by-play man Alan York is here to tell us all about what the university is about and how their football team came to play BYU today. It has been a long journey for the youngest FBS team in the nation. Liberty is a fellow Independent opponent on the schedule and producer Terry comes on the show to chat about our not-really-a-conference conference. And we Talk to the ROC with the current president and vice president of the BYU Student Section. Go Cougs, to all the Cougars in action today.

Get ready for the last big rivalry of the year Tail Gate Style. We get caught up on how Utah State has been doing so far this season with USU beat reporter for the Deseret News Trent Wood. Then we bring the rivalry to the airwave when his colleague at the Des News Jay Drew brings the BYU perspective. The Old Wagon Wheel is on the line tonight, so we take a look at some of the most interesting rivalries and trophies across the college football landscape. Finally we say hello to BYU Basketball after the scrimmage last night. Go Cougs!

Homecoming brings a little something extra out of the fans. And every visiting team wants to play spoiler on that special night. Last week BYU was gracious enough to give South Florida a win for their Homecoming, and the Cougs are hoping for a similar courtesy from Boise State today. But Homecoming is more than just a game, as we'll learn from director of relations and communications for BYU Alumni Robert Sullivan. There is a whole week of festivities designed for the Cougar fan, student and graduate alike. We'll Talk to the ROC about their favorite BYU traditions, and also settle down with a six pack of questions about Boise State football through the years. Happy Homecoming and Go Cougs!

As fall starts to bring football weather to Provo, the Cougs head southeast for the sunshine of Tampa, Florida. The Bulls don't have the longest history of organized football out of the teams BYU plays this year, but they have crammed some highlights into these 23 years. Their play-by-play broadcaster Jim Louk is on the phone to give us a history lesson in USF Football. We also talk to the BYU fan in charge of the Cougar Town Tailgate in Tampa about what it means to have BYU play such a diverse schedule. Find out what to look for beyond the field in today's game. Go Cougs!

The Cougars play the Rockets today, but how does a team end up being called the Rockets anyway? And what is the connection between Northwest Ohio and M\*A\*S\*H\*? These are the kinds of questions that aren’t answered on your normal x’s and o’s football show, but the Cougar Tail Gate is here for ya. Host Cole Wissinger talks to Toledo Associate AD Paul Helgren about what BYU fans can expect in the Glass City on gameday. We also reminisce about the dramatic last second victory over the Rockets in 2016 with former kicker Rhett Almond. Go Cougs!

BYU is coming off back-to-back overtime victories (in back-to-back weeks of our show airing) and we are here to celebrate. But not for too long because another tough P5 team is in Provo today. Washington has a storied history of draft picks and National Championships. We ask two former Cougars Matt and Spencer Hadley that grew up in Washington state if they ever rooted for the Huskies and quiz them on their Husky trivia. We also check in with BYU big man Khyiris Tonga to see how he likes playing on both sides of the ball. Go Cougs!
