Many people would say that the most precious gift anyone can give is their time. My guest on this week's episode, Bill Valentine, knows this better than most because he's in the midst of stage four terminal pancreatic cancer.
Bill is the only podcast guest that I didn't do extensive research on prior to his interview. I didn't fill up my head with all the things he's done up to this point, or all of the awards and accolades he's achieved along the way. Not because they aren't plentiful, but because I didn't want to be in my head during this interview. I wanted to simply meet him heart to heart.
As it turns out, Bill felt that my lack of research was very apropos because one of the things he's realized is that who he really is actually has nothing to do with what he had accomplished up to the point that he was diagnosed with cancer. He no longer wants to talk about his past professions and accomplishments. It doesn't matter to him anymore because as it turns out, it's not WHO he is at all.
So who is Bill Valentine? He is a father and a husband. And his entire focus is now on the most important relationships in his life, and everything he does is filtered through that identity and priority.
Bill shares with us what his days are like, what he's been learning throughout his experience with cancer, and what he's been teaching his four boys as he tries to pass on everything he wants them to learn from him in a much shorter timeframe than he had hoped he would have.
He was deeply honest with us about his experience of participating in his own living funeral over the last few years, as so many people have come forward to tell him what he has meant to them in their life, and how much they love him. He has felt deeply loved and grateful to have these meaningful connections with people from all aspects of his life. Through this beautiful process, he has learned to receive love and that he is, and always has been, enough.
Bill shares with us how psilocybin treatment not only helped him come to terms with his diagnosis but also helped him learn that the whole meaning of life is to give and receive love.
This is the legacy he hopes to leave behind.
"It shouldn't take a terminal disease for you to wake up to your obligation to live a full life, and at the center of that are other people." ~ Bill Valentine
I am deeply honored that he gave us this gift of his precious time. I think Bill will be one of our greatest teachers on this podcast and it was a blessing to be with him.
Bill is a precious gift to us all.

Have you ever had a deep voice telling you to move cities, change your job or invent something new for the world? But you don’t know what to do to get out of your fears and into your heart?
Well, you are not alone. My guest today, Trina Wyatt, has been there several times. She is not only our teacher today on Cracking Open about following your inner voice, but she's also mixing it with degrees, experience, and being a bold woman in business.
At age 13, Trina left the teachings of the Mormon Church and her devout family to begin pursuing her own spiritual path. For the next thirty years, she explored agnosticism, atheism, meditation, yoga, and Buddhism to develop her own personal spiritual practice.
And if this was not enough for one lifetime, after receiving her undergraduate degree from UCLA, followed by an MBA from NYU, Trina forged a successful business career in mainstream film and entertainment.
Trina launched the Tribeca Film Festival with Robert De Niro and served as its Founding Director. Besides Tribeca Entertainment, she’s also worked as a senior executive at Intrepid Pictures, which co-produced and co-financed genre films such as The Strangers, The Raven, The Cold Light of Day, and Waist Deep.
Trina has also held the position of CFO at Prana Studios, and led the team that acquired Rhythm & Hues, the Oscar-winning visual effects company, worked at IMDB and Film Independent, and then relocated to Boulder, Colorado in 2014 to accept a position at Gaia TV as Chief Content Officer. During her tenure there, she and her team set a new standard for the creation and distribution of conscious media.
In 2016, Trina’s love of inspirational stories, her passion for using business as a force for good, and her commitment to personal growth, inspired her to create Conscious Good, a media streaming service and community platform for those committed to “being the change they wish to see in the world”.
Shortly after its launch, Conscious Good established the Humanitarian Film Festival to support the UN’s World Humanitarian Day, and then established the highly acclaimed Mindscape Film Festival, celebrating stories of the Mind as integral to Body and Spirit.
In addition to her current active role as Founder and CEO of Conscious Good, Trina is producing a feature film with Black Label Media which produced one of my favorite films — Begin Again — that sheds light on the challenges of mental illness facing our society today.
She has served on the Advisory Board of Global Alliance for Transformational Entertainment (G.A.T.E.), and as a consultant for the Illuminate Film Festival.
And she is here today with us to teach us about being courageous in business, telling the truth for your own life journey, and knowing that on your toughest days if you can just get yourself to your yoga mat you have accomplished enough.

On this week's podcast, we hear from the incredible Sadie Lincoln, co-founder, and CEO of barre3, a fitness company with over 170 franchises focused on teaching people to be balanced in body and empowered from within.
According to Sadie, every single part of her life has been cracked open. Starting with her unconventional childhood of being raised by her mom and a group of single mothers who she called her “aunties,” to weathering her husband's cancer during a global pandemic.
In this episode, we talk about everything from how she handles external chaos by always staying rooted in her body with what she knows to be real, to facing childhood trauma with compassion and being with a good therapist.
Sadie dropped so many profound insights in this interview that after only a few minutes of talking with her, I joked that we could end the podcast right there.
She also shares how her time in the traditional educational institution of UCLA helped inspire her to create her own learning methodology, which ultimately led to the founding of her company barre3.
Sadie is on Inc.'s Female Founders 100 list, has been featured on NPR's How I Built This and speaks regularly on the topics of mindful leadership, the power of body wisdom, and the movement to redefine what success in fitness means.
Her kids might be her biggest teachers, but Sadie is a pretty inspirational teacher in her own right.

As a natural-born seeker, Tory Junkin broke the mold by leaving the big city of Chicago and her family business that she was born into and expected to uphold, to live a simpler and fulfilling life in Bend, Oregon. We are so lucky to hear Tory’s brave story of facing her demons by getting sober, doing deep healing work, and not shying away from the sometimes-painful truth in order to find freedom.
She has found a way to make her life an expression of philanthropy, which she defines as "the love of humanity.” Tory has discovered she enjoys doing foundation work with her mom and sister and finding a lot of joy in seeing her dad's legacy benefit others. Her philanthropic work supports helping women in India stay out of the sex trade business, Planned Parenthood, new policies to support sustainability and the environment, and help alleviate some of the challenges families face with a child who has cerebral palsy, a cause very close to Tory’s her heart.
As a woman, mother, wife, meditator, Sufi healer, Oregonian, privileged, cis-gendered, sober, friend, and lastly, but most importantly, french bulldog lover Tory enlightens us all on what she describes as “waking the fuck up” in order to step into your life to ultimately find more truth, freedom, and love!

Today we are talking to the tenacious and creative storyteller Kylie Slavik. Through her own healing journey, she has transformed 20 years of addiction into generating more than $23 million in revenue for her clients through one of her greatest passions in life - storytelling.
In this episode, we talk about how Kylie became a highly sought-after copywriter and brand storyteller in the transformation space. But first, we take a deep dive into her journey through drug and alcohol addiction, the spiritual path that led her through it (including meeting Jesus on a boat – yes, you read that correctly!), and how her own transformation has helped her transform the lives of her clients through the power of storytelling.
Kylie is the Director of Storytelling & Brand Development at Conscious Marketer, the #1 launch agency in the spiritual and transformation market. She has helped thousands of entrepreneurs in the conscious marketing space shine their light and get their messages out into the world.
I have worked with her professionally and can vouch for what an incredible storyteller, mentor, and overall badass she is. But one of my favorite things about Kylie is her tenacity and courage to continue showing up, not only as a woman but as a human being.
Join us for this spirited and spiritual conversation as we bond over “mystical Catholicism”, how to inspire people through stories, and the belief that every single one of us truly matters.

Rhonda Britten became an orphan at fourteen when she was the sole witness to the tragedy that no child should have to witness. This traumatic experience led Rhonda down a path of three suicide attempts, three DUI’s, addiction, and spending time in jail. When she woke up from her third failed suicide attempt, she knew she had to find the answer to her pain, or she'd stay forever stuck in a spiral of depression, suicidal thoughts, and addiction forever.
After looking for relief in therapy and searching for answers in books, she found that she still believed that no matter what she did or how hard she tried, she couldn't overcome her past. But one day she started putting gold star stickers on a piece of cardboard when she accomplished a small task, and it was this exercise that not only set her free but led her down a path of success that she never could have imagined.
This simple yet life-altering method was the beginning of a successful coaching program called Fearless Living that has helped thousands of people. Rhonda established The Fearless Living Institute in 1995. It hosts book groups, online courses, in-person experiential workshops, “Fearless You” membership, and certifies Fearless Living Life Coaches and trainers based on Rhonda's teachings. The Fearless Living Life Coach Certification Program is considered the Ivy League of Life Coaching Training.
Rhonda is also an Emmy Award-winner, four-time Bestselling author, Repeat Oprah guest, TEDx Speaker, and has devoted her life to one thing: teaching people how to master fear.
Rhonda was the first Life Coach on television on the show, "Help Me, Rhonda." She is also known for her work on the hit NBC reality show "Starting Over." After all her success celebrities came calling, and she joined the cast of "Celebrity Fit Club." She has also been interviewed on “Steve Harvey,” and “The Early Show.”
To date, she has been featured in Good Housekeeping, London Sunday Times and The New York Times heralded her as "America's Favorite Life Coach.”
Oh, and if that is not enough Marianne Williamson, the author of A Course in Miracles said, "Rhonda Britten has risen from the ashes of genuine catastrophe. She has seen the deepest darkness and found her way beyond it. Hers was not an easy path by any means. What she has accomplished within herself, and now helps others to accomplish as well is nothing short of miraculous."
And today she is with us on Cracking Open to teach resiliency, empower growth and be a deep example of still being able to love.

From overcoming a high school football injury that almost left Philip Henderson paralyzed we learn about how one's life can change in an instant. It was this challenging experience that motivated Philip to find his passion in the outdoor industry for over three decades as a member and team leader of the North Face/National Geographic Everest Education Expedition, became one of few African Americans to summit Denali in 2013, and led an all African American ascent of Mt Kilimanjaro in 2018.
Philip's passion for the outdoors not only led him up some of the highest mountains in the world but inspired him to create the Full Circle Everest Team Expedition up Everest in March of 2022.
This expedition will showcase the tenacity and strength of these climbers, and highlight the barriers that continue to exist for Black communities in accessing the outdoors. This historic attempt will inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts, educators, leaders, and mountaineers of color to continue chasing their personal summits.
By listening to Philip's story get ready to become more motivated, moved, and receive some much-needed life lessons on how believing in oneself cannot not only move your own soul but the soul of others.
