Welcome to another episode of The “So Now What?” Podcast. In today's episode, we continue our exploration of achieving your goals through the power of habits. If you missed our last episode (Episode 102), I highly recommend going back and listening to it before diving into this one, as it lays the foundation for what we're discussing today.
Recap from Episode 102In our previous episode, we discussed the reasons why we often fail to establish and maintain the habits necessary to achieve our goals.
We talked about the importance of brainstorming your goals and ranking them based on importance and impact.
In this episode, we dive deeper into the process of creating and sustaining habits that drive us towards our goals.
One crucial aspect of this journey is understanding the "why" behind your goals.
It's essential to ensure that the goals you choose are aligned with your personal desires and values.
Ask yourself, "Why is this goal important to me?" You should feel a deep personal attachment to your chosen goals.
For example, my goal of moving more is essential because I want to maintain good bone density, move freely, and avoid physical pain as I age.
Vitamins and meal planning are vital to me because they contribute to my overall well-being and help me feel and look my best.
We need to differentiate between goals we choose for ourselves and goals imposed by external influences, such as partners or employers.
Your personal attachment to a goal will significantly impact your motivation and commitment.
Understand that there will be days when you don't feel like pursuing your habits or goals, and that's perfectly normal.
These off days are part of being human, and there's no shame in experiencing them.
It's crucial to evaluate the reasons behind these decisions.
For instance, if you skip a day of exercise, consider why. Is it due to fatigue, a hectic schedule, or lack of access to a gym?
Regardless of the reason, remind yourself that one missed day doesn't mean you should give up on your goal.
Reflect on whether you like your reasons for skipping the habit and whether it aligns with your long-term goals.
The power to choose and understand your motivations is within your control.
Your habits should align with your personal preferences and values, not someone else's expectations.
Achieving your goals through habits becomes more manageable as these habits become part of your routine.
Goals are simply a collection of habits, and they should be easy for you to maintain once they become ingrained in your daily life.
Remember, it's never too late to discover your true purpose and meaning.
Join us in the next episode as we continue our journey towards a more purposeful and fulfilling life.
Thank you for listening, and we wish you a wonderful week ahead.
