  • Creative Capital Podcast 100: Designing Your Lifestyle Around Your Investments with Jennifer Beadles

Welcome back to the Creative Capital Podcast with Josh Ferrari! In this episode, I welcome Jennifer Beadles! At 21 years old, Jennifer had bought her first house, and a real estate developer hired her. She found herself learning the ropes of building new construction, hiring subcontractors, dealing with red tag notices and grumpy neighbors who didn't want new houses blocking their view. While she loved the variety and constant challenge of finding solutions to complex issues in the development world, she wanted to do and learn more. So in 2009, she officially ditched her 9-to-5 job and become a real estate agent specializing in working with investors. Since her goal was to achieve financial freedom through real estate investing, she figured what better way to earn a living than to help others achieve what she was setting out to achieve. Jennifer has sold more than $120M+ in real estate while buying rentals and building up her own passive income streams.

In this episode, Jennifer talks about designing your lifestyle around the investments you make. Key Quotes:

"Once I got really clear on what I wanted my lifestyle to look like, then it's just working backwards." - Jennifer Beadles

"The key is [to] just get started. Whatever that looks like for you – based on your goals, based on your comfort level, based on your risk tolerance, whatever feels right – just do it. Just get started." - Jennifer Beadles

"By focusing first on the why and the what, the how comes later. If you have a compelling reason why to do something, then you're going to do it. But if you don't have a compelling reason why, if you don't really know the direction you're going, then it's going to be really tough." - Jennifer Beadles

We have a lot of conversations where you will tell me something is happening, this didn't go through, this is what you're struggling with. And if I didn't attempt to know what is going on, how am I supposed to relate to you? How am I supposed to know what you're going through?" - Alicia Ferrari

"A wife who is listening to this or a husband who's listening to this is that go-getter. Sometimes, just being there for them, cooking them dinner, listening to them, I feel like sometimes it's just what fills your cup. It fills your love cup. It fills my love cup just being there for you." - Alicia Ferrari

    Key Quotes:

"It's very difficult to pick a partner and pick partners. It takes a lot of vetting and spending time with them, getting to know them on a personal and professional level. Sometimes, you just don't pick the right one and hopefully, things can stay respectful and still work out. I think I like to hang out with people who bring me up and lift me up versus bring me down, people that are wanting to do big things, whose values align with who you are and are ultimately really there for the investors as well." - Kyle Mitchell

"You really do need to understand the deal yourself when you're raising capital, and truly believe in the deal. If you're not going to put your money in there either, then that's a reason for the investor to question the ability of that deal. Believe in yourself, but also understand the deal." - Kyle Mitchell
