West Virginia has always had a soundtrack, and in this episode, that soundtrack gets a fresh verse. Ben Jamn stopped by the studio to talk about life as a rapper from the Mountain State and how he’s weaving homegrown experiences into melodic, meaningful music. More than a rapper, Ben is a storyteller, blending Appalachian roots with modern rhythms to redefine what it means to be an artist from West Virginia.

Christopher Lee Palmer, 39, was officially declared a missing person on January 16 by Arkansas authorities. Chris is an experienced camper who frequently travels through national forests and is known to keep his family informed of his plans. He was traveling with his German shepherd, Zoey.
Chris and Zoey went camping in the Smoky Mountains on December 8. From December 10 through December 27, he was camping in the Boone Fork area. On December 25, Chris told his family he planned to travel to George Washington National Forest on December 28 and stay until January 7.
On January 4, Chris sent a text confirming he was in the George Washington National Forest but did not provide a specific location. He said he planned to stay another week. On January 9, he texted again stating he was heading to Monongahela National Forest. He later sent a short video of the terrain but explained that cell service was very spotty and he could not talk.
New information from investigators shows that Chris’s red 2017 Ford F-250 was actually in Dare County as early as the afternoon of January 9. Traffic camera footage shows a blue and white kayak in the bed of the truck at that time.
Mobile phone data indicates Chris’s phone was near Avon on the evening of January 10 and near Cape Point on January 11.
On January 12, National Park Service law enforcement rangers located Chris’s truck stuck on the beach at Cape Hatteras National Seashore near Buxton. Visitor reports confirm the truck was also stuck on the beach on January 11. The kayak seen earlier in the truck was not present and has not been located.
Chris is believed to have still been traveling with his German shepherd, Zoey, and may have remained in the area. The National Park Service continues active investigative efforts and is asking for help from the public, including boaters, residents, and anyone who may have been in the Outer Banks area during that time frame.
Description of Christopher Lee Palmer
White male
5 feet 6 inches tall
Blue eyes

In 1931, what should have been a massive infrastructure project in southern West Virginia became one of the worst industrial disasters in American history. Over 700 workers, many young Black men and migrant laborers, died from silicosis after drilling through pure quartz rock with no protective equipment during construction of the Hawks Nest Tunnel.
Labor attorney Sam Petsonk joins me in the studio to lay bare not just this heartbreaking history, but the ongoing modern silicosis crisis that continues to claim thousands of lives each year.

Patrick Roark was indeed arrested and arraigned today in Raleigh County, West Virginia. We have a reporter on the scene. Shout out to Josephine ‘Jozy’ Moore. Video is uploading now. Here’s what we know.
- Patrick was indeed told many times, over and over again, that he is to not contact any of the Whittakers. The Judge named them each.
- He was arrested for 11 counts that were all felonies. 5 counts of financial fraud exploitation of an incapacitated person. 5 counts of fraudulent schemes and 1 count of fraudulent use of an access device.
- His bond was set at $150,000.
- He refused a public attorney and will provide his own.
When I asked if he has anything to say, he responded “It’s a great day in West Virginia isn't it?”

*The Mercer County Prosecution Office has informed us that another hearing was scheduled for the week after this show released, January 12-16, but has been continued due to a conflict with one of the Defense Attorney's schedules.
Fifteen years have passed since Crystal Cantrell was brutally murdered, fifteen years of grief, unanswered questions, and postponed justice. In this emotionally charged episode, Erica and Kevin Tessner, Crystal’s sister and brother-in-law, join me in the studio to share her story, her light, her life, and the pain that’s been left behind.
There’s been an arrest. A mugshot. Promises of trial. And yet, justice has been delayed again and again. This episode is a memorial and a plea, for truth, for closure, and for anyone who may know something to come forward.
⚠️ Trigger Warning: This conversation contains disturbing details of violence and loss. Please take care of your mental health before listening.
