Czabe finally reconnects with MR X for the first time since CzabeVegas. They talk about how the MLB season is now launching as we head toward Memorial Day. They don't make old school skippers like Bobby Cox anymore. Are the Knicks really that good? Or do the Sixers suck? ABS creating new "short kings." Mr. X doesn't buy it on the accuracy of ABS. Could the Wizards trade DOWN from 1/1 to 1/2? MORE...
Czabe ran a few laps with SCOTT LINN and STEVE SOLOMON on their home court, the Linn Murray Solly Podcast, as usual on a Monday. You'll hear about Scott's beaming pride in his son, The J Man, as he graduates from Penn State. While Czabe wonders why he's never been invited to speak at a graduation, you'll find out exactly why when he lays out what he would say. Czabe also muses about the very concept of "tanking" and why we put up with it as fans. NFL schedule leaks have begun to gush, and Chris Berman is gonna be "back, back, back" with ESPN for several more years, God willing!
Czabe is happy the Wizards pulled off the "perfect tank" job, but his running mate today ANDY POLLIN is so "over it" that he wouldn't have cared if the NBA ended up fucking them anyway. Odd. A nearly 50-year gap between Conference(!) final appearances, this woeful team finally might get good. We'll see. RIP Bobby Cox, how long will it take for St. Peter to send him to the showers at the pearly gates for arguing? That time I tried to be "too funny" on ESPN Radio. Lebron's last ride? Or just more leverage? Steve Kerr turns down a bag of TV money, that'll be there waiting for him anyway in 2 years. Barkley doesn't punch down. Suicide by Airbus A320. MORE......
The flood of money in sports has broken the top of the levees, and it's time to run for your life if you still like what sports used to be about. It's not a matter of "if" they'll expand the CFB to 24, it's only when. My question is: "How long will the sugar high of new money last?" A few days of utter delusion at LIV Virginia, as Bryson threatens to become the Mr. Beast of golf. Good luck, pal! And a BONUS inclusion of just a chunk of the "Linn, Murray, Solly Podcast" on Patreon. It's always fun to hear a different dynamic when I play some pick-up hoops "on their court." MORE....
Czabe welcomes two of his favorites, author and bourbon expert FRED MINNICK, along with inventor of the "Whiskey Weekend" PAUL CHARCHIAN, to talk about a whole lotta stuff. Starting with Fred's assertion that, despite the Kentucky Derby's obvious "glow up" with more money, more eyeballs, and more hype, it may be losing its soul. Also, Charch is wondering why McDonald's plans to eliminate the self-serve soda fountains in its restaurants by 2032. While Czabe just marvels at... horses. MORE....
Czabe went wild on a Monday. First, with a check-in from ANDY POLLIN to talk about the charmed ride that John Sterling had as the voice of the New York Yankees, when they were really good! Also, Czabe gets mic-to-mic with his old producer and sidekick, JOSH ALBRECHT, for the first time in over a year and a half! He's joined by MATT MUELLER on the sacred "May the Fourth" be with you, Star Wars nerd holiday! They also talk about the Brewers' "Wisco" City Connect 2.0's, the death of Spirit Airlines, and more! Bring your appetite, this is a big one!
Czabe flies solo today, and there's a ton of good stuff to think about. Starting with this: how come nobody pushes back on the NFL when the Draft closes schools(!) and shuts down museums and parking lots and roads? Is there not one uncorrupted politician out there willing to say "no!" The Celtics choke away a 3-1 lead to the Sixers. Inside the NBA "goes there" on it's "Gone Fishin' Segment." Why did Dianna Russini make $1 million a year anyway at the Athletic? Spirit Airlines, goes under. GameStop (them?) wants to buy Ebay. Kelsey Plum's $1 dollar mis-understanding of marginal tax rates. God Bless the Savanna Bananas and their owner who just won't "sell out." MORE.....
The NCAA Tournament is expanding to 76 teams — and nobody asked for it. Steve Czaban and Kevin Sheehan break down why the Field of 76 is a classic case of league executives solving a problem that didn't exist, and what it signals about where college basketball is headed. Plus: reactions to a spicy early NBA playoffs, the death of Washington Football legend Monte Coleman, the latest on LIV Golf's uncertain future, and the viral video corner.
Czabe sums up the current sports hellscape, with the latest downward trends in sanity and decency. Brenden Sorsby is a degenerate, but he's hardly alone. The feds flip their first in the big NBA card rigging conspiracy case, and the tournament is expanding. SCOTT LINN and STEVE SOLOMON make an appearance as I present a chunk of my "road game" with the boys on their podcast this week. We talk about the NFL draft, how useless and stupid it is to go in person, and the very awkward Mark Rypien announcement of the Commanders' 3rd-round pick. Then Czabe ends on a happy note, with two uplifting sports stories, among all the nonsense. Enjoy!
