Deer IQ

In this special episode of the Deer IQ podcast I’m going to be starting a story-based series called “So there I was - hunting stories of epic adventure.” This is where I will tell a story of a specific buck, and also break down how and why it worked out. I’ll be inserting these here and there throughout this year. I’ll also apply some of the principles we’ve been going over in the 6 steps or core competencies of highly effective hunters, and how those worked in this real world hunting situation. This hunt is about my 2016 Ohio 13 point, and the story is kind of wild and shows the interconnectedness of whitetail hunters - in both success and failure. This episode bridges two of our series - controversies & solutions, and what it takes to be a great hunter. It does this because this episode includes both someone that many feel is one of the best whitetail hunters ever, with probably the biggest controversy ever - Mitch Rompola and his infamous 1998 buck. We cover what 3 people that knew him first hand say about that infamous deer, and also some strange hunting techniques he used. And yes, I (Adam) knocked on Mitch’s door in an attempt to get an interview, and will reveal what happened, and will finally answer one big question that’s been floating around for years. 

And, to be clear,  I have utmost respect for all the guests on this episode and their takes on this topic. My "solutions" at the end are for people like me - the masses that never saw the buck, or knew Mitch. A special thanks to those guests and Dan Schmidt for letting me use the video clips.

How did those meetings with public input for new regulations actually go, and what will be the outcome for deer hunting in Michigan - we share our takes with some controversial regulations - like youth season restructuring, APR’s coming into play, possible earn a buck, and much more.
