I know it's been a challenging time for all of us during this pandemic, but sometimes you have to look at the bright side of things.
For me, that's been getting outside in nature, and doing fun things like hiking, kayaking, or just thinking about life.
In fact, although I've enjoyed the outdoors for years now, I feel like I've been outside over the past 5 months more than ever. It sure beats the alternative of sitting at home! :)
To me, getting outside in nature is one of the best things you can do for your mind and soul.
And speaking of being outside in nature, I just read an article yesterday that said a new study found that for kids to bond with nature, they need to participate in solitary activities outdoors, such as fishing, or just exploring the outdoors.
Activities like these encourage children to both enjoy being outside and to feel comfortable there. And when kids get outside more, they enjoy both the physical and mental benefits that come with it.
I remember growing up, we lived in a house where there were woods and a creek in the back, and I would spend hours exploring and having fun. Some great memories.
What about you? Did you spend time outdoors as a kid? I'd love to know, so feel free to reply and we can both reminiscence. :)
One last thing - if kids connected with nature more AND connected with other humans in a deep, meaningful way - man I think that's a recipe for healthy, well balanced kids growing up. I hope to help make this happen.
