This week, we have chili, Tostitos, and Dr. Pepper before we’re whisked away into the world of spin doctors and Hollywood producers and watch Wag the Dog. This 1997 movie is so prophetic that it predates the Bill Clinton scandal, 9/11, and the War in Iraq and it’s still relevant today. It’s a big eye-opening thumbs up from all of us win-an-Emmy, social-conscience, save-the-rain-forest, liberal, affirmative action, peacenik commies here at the show. Some words in that were deleted for decorum, but you get the gist.

We travel to the fictional small-town diner in Anarene, Texas this week to have hamburgers, chili, fries, onion rings, shakes, coffee, and Dr. Pepper before we discuss The Last Picture Show. The film’s unhappiness and emptiness are strongly felt throughout as it follows a group of mostly unsupervised teenagers. Life in this small town can be hard or sometimes indescribably soft. We can relate.

We travel into THE CITY this week to eat lasagna and Flavor Blasted Goldfish crackers before discussing the movie Garfield. This fat cat movie is full of fun for kids but don’t expect much for adults except for Garfield’s strange rendition of Billy Joel’s New York State of Mind smack dab in the middle of the movie. If you’re looking for a movie about friendship and family values, this is an okay watch. Just skip the part when Jon knocks the hell out of Happy at the end.

After we eat a hearty helping of meatloaf, Spanish olives, olive oil with bread, and coffee with whiskey this week, we discuss the film Life Itself. We agree that Oscar Isaac’s performance is mind-blowing and we wanted more of a story with Dylan and her grandpa Irwin. Some of us liked the Gonzalez family story, but we all felt that the culmination of these lives lead to a disappointing appearance of Elena reading a story about her family’s loss and an unlikely coincidence that supposedly proves that life itself is an unreliable narrator. So, it’s possible that none of this is true?

We get down and dirty with Nightcrawler this week after we eat some tacos. Lou may be one of the best stringers of all time. That happens when you’re willing to do anything to get the best footage, eliminate the competition, and manipulate your boss/girlfriend to get what you want. It’s a very uncomfortable ride along with Lou and the only thing that makes it bearable is his sidekick Rick. Nightcrawler is full of WTF moments that pay off in the end.

This week, we eat classic Big Macs with fries and Twinkies before we discuss Kingsman: The Secret Service. This is a great spy movie parody with a wonderful score and a lot of fantastic action scenes. A little light on character development, but it all works out for Eggy in the end.

Thanks for celebrating the podcast’s 100th episode with us. This week, we eat ratatouille, bread, cheese, and some unmentioned wine before we discuss Ratatouille. Disney can really push the envelope on crazy ideas and this film is no exception. It’s an appropriate film to start our new year with because rats secretly control us too. We hope we don’t get shut down by the rat infestation.
