You'll be in for a wild ride!
What made the experience of listening to Pretty Sacrifices the most enjoyable?
The narrator's voice was perfect for this audiobook: the voice of a Young Adult, vibrant, full of emotions.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character? Difficult to say when there are so many to choose from! Glory is great but so is Kaia and don't forget little Belle Starr. And, yes, Micah, the fallen angel; fallen because he had seen too many children die.
    Which scene was your favorite?
The scene near the end with Jesse, Belle Starr, Micah and the Goth Girls.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listen to audiobooks while doing the house chores and at night, to help me when I have insomnia. And, yes, I did lots of house chores then some garden chores so I didn't have to put this audiobook down. I even listened to it during my afternoon "nap"!
    Any additional comments?
I bought and read the Kindle book when it was published but, still, the audiobook was like something new to me. Conspiracy for the world domination, fight of good versus evil, black magic against white magic, there was all this in "Glory", the first book of this trilogy. Now, there's also Quantum Physics and Time Travel, favorite themes of Sci-Fi fans. Some of you won't like it but for the others, you're in for a wild ride. Me, I loved it!

Good book but to short for romance
    Any additional comments?
This would be a great book if it was longer. The book was so short with a lot going on you don't really get any romance. I liked this book I just wish there were more of it. I would suggest it to anyone looking for a quick listen.
Great Performance of a Modern-Day Fantasy
The story is a short-and-sweet modern-day fantasy as Lindsey struggles to make sense of the crazy world she's leapt through! I love how the narrator put the right emotion in all the right places! Great Scottish accent as well!

    Publisher's Summary:
In a world full of the sick and dying, the hurting and desperate, and those lost in darkness, angels dwell. Messenger angel Sarah is focused, dedicated to the cause of heaven in the war against hell. For centuries, she has watched other angels succumb to temptation and break the rules governing relationships between angels and humans. Sarah has vowed to never become one of the 'Fallen' angels, now demons cursed to wander the depths of hell for eternity. She knows that she is stronger than the others, incapable of emotional attachment and the feelings of love and desire that can be so dangerous to her kind.
Jackson Bennett is alone in the world, and he prefers it that way. The former Army sergeant has seen more death than any human ought to experience in one lifetime. Even his dreams are haunted by the faces of those who have lost their lives because of him. He feels lost, purposeless, until an encounter with an angel reveals the secret purpose that he was made for. Born of a superior race of humans, Jackson learns of a special assignment. Should he accept, he will become an important part of world that exists between heaven, hell, and earth. After all that he has been through, Jackson doesn't know if he's ready to take on such a heavy responsibility; what he does know is that he could lose himself in the eyes of Sarah, the intriguing angel assigned to him. She is the only person who seems to understand the darkness and pain that have enveloped his heart; she is the only person capable of driving them away.
In a battle between love or loneliness, divinity or damnation, Sarah's choice once seemed easy. What she finds is that the black and white lines that once defined her world are now impossibly blurred and gray. What she finds is that she may not be not quite as strong as she thought.
    Members Reviews:
Heart-felt and compelling read! Loved it!
Tempted is the second in the "Angels Among Us" series. The first book, Fallen, was a deliciously sexy, romantic read. Tempted is all that and more!
Jackson Bennett is a soldier who returned home from three tours in Iraq into the suffocating arms of his own post-traumatic stress, heavily laced with survivor's guilt. He's sunk to the quicksand of self-loathing and can't seem to climb his way back out. He's detached himself from the world, feeling unworthy and unlovable.
Sarah is a messenger of God's; an angel dedicated to fight in the battle between heaven and hell. The only passion she knows is her devotion to her "Father" and obeying His will as a good and faithful servant.
In this book, the author elaborates on the world in which her series takes place, explaining the powers and limitations of the different entities of heaven, hell, and yes, even earth. This background information plays a huge part in the relationship between Jackson and Sarah, leaving the reader absolutely riveted as we root for the good-guys now knowing so much more about what's at stake.
This is not only a tummy-flipping romantic read, but also a strong foundation for more in the "Angels Among Us" books.

    Members Reviews:
    The Templar saga continues.
This is actually the 5th installment of the Templar story. There are three novels before this and a Novella Before I go any further with this review, I would recommend that they all be read, in the correct order, so that you get the most from this ongoing story.
The Knights Templar fought in the holy land, with their leader Hughes De Payens. 9 Templars followed Hughes, and dug beneath the Temple Mount, unearthing something that the Almighty forces felt man did not need to see. These knights were cursed to fight Azazel and darkness eternally, until they succumbed to that very darkness, and became evil. BUT, they may see salvation, yet.
The prophecy is that the 6 Templars who were the original ones to go to the Temple Mount with Hughes De Payens would receive their Seraphs first. ( A Seraph is a reincarnation of the Nephilim, angels who chose to become human). They will be the salvation of the rest of the Templars. Caradoc was one of those remaining 6.
Isabelle and Caradoc met three/four years ago, when Caradoc went back to Europe to say a final goodbye to his beloved home Asterleigh ( or what was left of it). They had a whirlwind affair, and Isabelle was in love with Caradoc. But Caradoc knew that it would not be fair to Isabelle to lead her on, especially if his Seraph was out there, somewhere. So he left her, without a proper goodbye.
The Tears of Christ, hidden in an exquisite diamond gemstone necklace, are up for auction. Mikhail has decreed that Caradoc, and Tane go to Europe, along with Gareth, and bid on the necklace, along with other minor relics. But they must get the necklace, at all costs. Imagine Caradoc's surprise to find that he is bidding against Isabelle. The Templars must get this relic, because if Azazel gets it, he can activate the spear from the crucifiction with the tears. Without really spoiling anything, yes, she is Caradoc's Seraph. But can they get over the fact that Isabelle has a secret, that she has kept from Caradoc for 3 long years? And it is a big secret. And can the Tears be kept from Azazel? Each time a Seraph has been found, a relic has been involved. And they ended up losing the Relic that they fought so hard to save.
The book was well-written, and the plot was really good.

Not as good as the first, but still fun!
An Open Letter To Her Secret Inheritance,
I have to be honest. I don't think you were as great as the book that you follow. You fell a little flat for me, but to be fair I still really enjoyed you. You were a fun, fast, easy read and you brought back some characters that I really enjoyed the first time around. So thank you for that...
    -The White Unicorn
I was excited when I heard that McConnel was coming out with a follow up novel to "The Secret of Isobel Key". I really enjoyed it and I was really excited to jump back into Lou's world. Perhaps it was the short length of this book that left me wanting more, or maybe it was the fact that I was actually satisfied with the ending of the first book, but this story felt a little redundant to me. That being said, I'm still a huge fan of McConnel's writing.
In the beginning of the book we get dropped into Lou's story 5 years down the line from where we last saw her. She's more sure of herself and of her magic, which is a delightful development. However, her once flirtatious and amazing chemistry with Brian seemed tedious this time around. I understand that 5 years is a long time, but they held so much resentment over something that most likely ended up helping Lou find herself in the long run.
I guess it goes back to the "let's not talk about it" romance trope that isn't my favorite. In this case my dislike for a romance that I dug the first time around is probably more of a "It's not you, it's me" type of thing.
I do love how McConnel manages to drop you into her setting. She world building makes you feel like you're traipsing around Scotland and that's awesome!
The mystery ties into the last book and continues the story of Isobel Key, but from a different point of view. I really like that we get to see some bits of history as well as all the modern happenings, it gives the book a fresh feel. In this case it also makes the book feel a pretty repetitive. I felt like the same things were done in both books and that this novel didn't end up being as exciting.
I know that this review isn't full of glowing praise, but don't let that fool you. I did enjoy this one and I got through it quickly because I wanted to know what happened in the end. I'd say if you're a fan of the first book, definitely check this one out.

Recently heartbroken, Raine Daniels arrives home in Las Vegas, Nevada, to help with her parents' fortieth anniversary party only to discover they are planning to separate as soon as the last guest walks out the door. Everything she thought she knew-her very foundation is rocked to the core.
When she learns that Alexander, the sexy stranger she'd sat next to on the plane, is really the god of love - Cupid - she asks for his help, but he declines. The god of love, now long divorced from Psyche and living on earth among mortals, no longer believes in love.
Raine decides to take matters into her own hands, even if a god tells her she's wrong. With her life falling apart around her and the solution seemingly within her reach she dares to try and make everything better. Unfortunately, she's unprepared for the consequences of stealing Cupid's bow.
    Members Reviews:
Interesting take on a modern day Cupid
I was won over by the steadfast view of love put forth by the author via her main character, Raine, even though Raine does some almost unforgivably idiotic things during the course of the book. But then, Cupid's kind of an idiot, too. But the sincerity and idealism of the book's message was ultimately convincing. I liked the explanations that the author came up with for Cupid's lifestyle in the modern world; some of them were really clever. I'd be interested to read more takes on Cupid as a romance hero.
Sweet story of Cupid and True Love
    3.5 stars.
In Stealing Cupid's Bow, we learn that Cupid exists and living in Las Vegas. Yes, Cupid lives in Sin City. It's pretty fitting, really. Where else should the God of Love live but in the city with the highest rate of quickie marriages?
Raine is a twenty-something young woman whose boyfriend has fallen in love with another woman-a woman he was cheating with for months. Raine is devastated, but she doesn't have a heck of a lot of time to dwell on it because she's off to Las Vegas for her parents' 40th wedding anniversary. When she gets there, she finds out that they are about to separate.
Oh, and she met Cupid on the plane, though he lives as a mortal and goes by Alexander now.
There's a lot to like about this story. Alexander is suitably alpha male but also has a very strong considerate side. He's a God who has sworn off love, despite his unique powers and job. He can make people fall in love, but he doesn't believe the love will last and he's really gotten "out of the game" so to speak. Raine believes in love, despite her cheating boyfriend and her separating parents.
My biggest issue with this book was that it was too short. I felt like there were so many places the book could have gone if it had an additional hundred pages. While the plotlines were largely resolved, there were a couple of questions I had at the end of it that would have been perfect for an epilogue or even another chapter. That said, it's a quick and very satisfying read, so I won't hesitate to recommend it.

    ...with the best of intentions....
Thank you Jewel Quinlan and Goodreads! I won this book in a recent giveaway.
This was an interesting book. I liked the premise of Cupid/Eros leaving Mount Olympus to live on Earth with mere mortals.

Alice Duncan is right up there with Agatha Christie
Restless Spirits is a good introduction to Alice Duncan, I love Alice Duncan's style of writing and I love the era of early 1910-1940. It flows and it just keeps you turning pages. You should try out her Mercy Allcut series and Daisy Gumm series set in that same time frame in L.A. and Hollywood. You will see what I mean. You just can't stop reading . Once you get started on a series, you need to keep reading and reading, and then wait impatiently for the next in the series to hit the bookstand. And I'm waiting for the next edition in these series.
    Buy more than one!
I love romances and Alice Duncan does it so well. Restless Spirit features free-spirited and fiery Penny Potter and her brother Harry from Montana, who visit staid and starchy England, where women aren't quite so free. Harry soon starts behaving strangely, scaring everyone and Penny is determined to discover the cause, no matter how dangerous it becomes. All of that while falling in love! Restless Spirit is the perfect book to bring along on vacation. In fact, bring along more of Alice's romances, they're habit-forming.
    Excellent
Everything "THIS" Alice Duncan (author of the Daisy Gumm and this series) writes is well written, fast paced and fun. There is apparently another Alice Duncan that has books available on Amazon that are not my cup of tea.
I didn't care for the story line and I was ...
I didn't care for the story line and I was not impressed with any of the characters at all.
    Perfect
Perfect as advertised: cosy, supernatural love story.

I read book one in the Sinfully Supernatural anthology and there was no stopping. This is a series that needs to be read and read in order as each book builds on the last. Long has made my auto-buy, recommend, and reread lists with the series. It is highly addictive.

This is an extremely short read. But I hope it is just a teaser for a story to come.
Set in the same world as the first book a little further down the time line. Looks like Randall might get a chance at love. I enjoyed finding out more about him and his magic tricks.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Hollie Jackson, who does a great job with all the voices. I enjoyed her pace and tone throughout the read. Definitely one I would like to hear again.
Disclosure - I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions and ratings are my own.
