    Title: Ash
    Author: James Herbert
    Narrator: Steven Pacey
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 22 hrs and 41 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-06-12
    Publisher: Audible Studios

    Genres: Fiction, Horror
    Publisher's Summary:
David Ash, detective of the paranormal, is sent to the mysterious Comraich Castle, secluded deep in the Scottish countryside, to investigate a strange, high-profile case. A man has been found crucified in a locked room. The reports suggest that the cliff-top castle is being haunted.... Who or what is the reclusive hooded figure that Ash has seen from the window walking across the courtyard in the dead of night? What are the strange, animal-like sounds that come from the surrounding woods? And why are the castle's inhabitants so reluctant to talk about what they have seen? What Ash eventually discovers is truly shocking....
Featuring one of Herbert's best-loved characters, first encountered in The Ghosts of Sleath and Haunted, Ash is a ghost story like no other that will chill you to the marrow.

    What A Mess!
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
A better story with a comprehensible conclusion.
What was most disappointing about James Herberts story?
The most disappointing thing about ASH was the story itself. The book's beginning is interesting, with characters one quickly decides are likeable and unlikeable. The book then cascades into a series of inexplicable, and wholly unbelievable, occurrences that are never connected to one another in any meaningful way despite the constant intimation that there is some common explanation. Ash, the titular parapsychologist, never explains (perhaps, never understands) what is happening. The book's casst of ridiculous characters includes Hitler's bastard daughter, all grown up and crazy as hell, and the transparent (as in one can literally see his internal organs) prematurely born son of Princess Diana who comes to take her son into her loving embrace at novel's end. Oh, and did I forget to mention Qaddafi. 'Nuff said.
Would you be willing to try another one of Steven Paceys performances?
    No.
What character would you cut from Ash?
Hitler's daughter and Louie, the son of Princess Diana

Not even Pacey could save this turkey
I managed to get through to Chapter 7 and couldn't listen any further. Stephen Pacey is as good a British narrator as I've ever heard...but even his credible narration could not make this awful novel into something entertaining, mildly interesting or enjoyable. The author should do "graphic novels" and forget any literary ambitions, at least, in this genre. Listening to this brought back the memory of listening to another audiobook wherein the author attempted to describe his characters almost entirely, by describing or mentioning, the popular music they liked. This author, though, uses a very different method to achieve the same effect... by using untold billions of descriptive adjectives and adverbs to "flesh out" his characters, settings, etc. But every word "picture" he tries to paint seems drawn, in sets, from previous material that is ever so familiar. His literary "inventions" are so trite, so hackneyed, that, although one may not remember the exact, original source(s), one already knows them by heart, long before this author ever pasted them in. Like, "the castle". Think about every popular image you have of a dark and brooding manse, all the images that one has ever heard about, read about, seen in movies or tv, or video games, even.

    Publisher's Summary:
US expatriate Bobby Ives is an aimless Vietnam veteran living in London with his girlfriend. The extremely volatile Ives is obsessed with two strange events in his past: the fact that he was declared dead in Vietnam via administrative error, and the time he experienced a vivid waking dream in which he became a zombie.
Ives finds himself becoming more susceptible to uncontrolled rage; he also experiences quasi-fugue states where he lets that rage overwhelm him. In the midst of such a fugue state, he's capable of great violence. His girlfriend dies as the result of one of his rages; other victims soon follow.
At first, he perversely revels in the changes that have occurred. Then, realizing that he is swiftly losing control, he seeks help from a clairvoyant who seems to have insight into his condition. She initially refuses, and his rampages continue. Eventually, she relents, and tries to help him by imprisoning him. Her efforts prove unsuccessful, as he escapes confinement, forcing her to take more drastic action.

    Brilliant, compelling!
Would you listen to The Nightwalker again? Why?
Absolutely I would listen again. John Lee is a superb narrator who has taken great care with this work by Thomas Tessier, one of the best horror/thrillers of the last 50 years -- so says Stephen King!
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Nightwalker?
The slow-burn of the main character's descent into hell is a metaphor for so many things we all go through in life....but what happens with his girlfriend is as chilling a moment as any in all the fiction I've read...
    Which scene was your favorite?
The opening is a grabber...as is the scene with his girlfriend at the bus stop...
If you could rename The Nightwalker, what would you call it?
Why rename it? To what purpose? It's a great title.
    Any additional comments?
Read. Listen. This one you'll never forget!

A little slow to start with.
But once it got going another great story from the master. Not his best but still enjoyable, on par with Rose Madder and Finders Keepers but not in the same league as The Stand or Duma Key.
    Great
This is a great book. The narrator reads well and helps to bring the story to life. It gets exciting in parts and overall is an interesting concept for a novel. It didn't grab me as quickly as some of his novels do, but we'll with reading.
Exciting, edge of the seat stuff!
If you could sum up Firestarter in three words, what would they be?
    Hot and enjoyable!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Charley is my favourite character. She's plucky but has a tough time controlling her afflection.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The scene where she returns to Irv and Nora on the farm.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It is quite an emotional read and made me both laugh and cry.
    Enjoyable read
Really enjoyable read. It's a typical SK thing but no dragging of plot and kid is likeable (2 things which sometimes let him down). love the concept and the ideas running through the book, good twists and turns, would love a sequel!
    Fab
This was one of the very first SK books I read 34 years ago. Forgot how good it was. Well narrated, full of twists and turns.

From the author of Reunion, an Amazon number-one best-selling supernatural thriller.
Listed with Goodreads Best Breakout Authors of 2011
Creepy is a collection of short stories, some fiction and some not, that will send shivers down your spine!
Creepy contains two of my favorite short suspense stories ("The Rumblin'" and "Murdoch's Eyes"), but best of all, it includes some of my real life supernatural experiences...absolutely true ghost stories.
I was around 10 years old when I had my first supernatural experience. Thirty years later, my ghosts have returned and they are creepier than ever. I've seen full-bodied aparations, felt a dark presence practically breathing down my neck, and I work everyday with a ghost who seems more curious than anything.
These stories are all inside Creepy, my collection of scary stories. True Stories include: "The Shadow Man", "The Ghost Named Earl", & "Someone in the Basement". These are actual supernatural events I've experienced in my life and they are all very scary stories.
These ghostly experiences have influenced my writing and allowed me to truly capture the essence of fear and suspense that you'll discover in my fiction.
If you enjoy creepy tales from Stephen King, you'll love my heart-pounding short stories too. This collection of true stories and short suspense will at the very least, creep you out!
If you like ghost stories you'll love Reunion, an Amazon best-selling ghost story that takes place 20 years after a school shooting, with a twist that willl kick your...well you get the idea.
Be sure to check out Jeff's latest release, Twisted Vengeance, a Damien vs. Sixth Sense supernatural thriller that will leave you guessing all the way until the twisted conclusion. Not so scary
Would you try another book written by Jeff Bennington or narrated by Michael Scherer?
Yes Michael the narrator was great! But as for the writer not so much. I did not find these stories creepy at all. Really quick and boring
Has Creepy: A Collection of Scary Stories put you off other books in this genre?
    No
What does Michael Scherer bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
I really love the way he brings the characters to life. Especially in The Rumbling

    Entertaining Werewolf story
A well produced radio play with effects etc. Not great literature but along the lines of a Twilight Zone episode. Author tries a little too hard in a couple of points but though you may see the end coming it is entertaining for a short diversion.
    Fast and fun
Cleverly written and well produced. Entertaining and absorbing. Just what I was looking for.
Pretty good for a short story.

    NOT IMPRESSED
So disappointed with this cheap nasty play. A lot of shouting and

rather tiresome and boring. With Malcom McDowell narrating, I thought this was going to be fun and interesting. It was any thing but.

FORCE OF HATE, STRONGER THAN GRAVITY
PEOPLE PUKE ALL THE TIME WITHOUT DYING FIRST
I am not sure why this is buried so far in the back of the horror section? It is actually very well written, exciting and kind of Twilight Zone like. Our main character dies, but comes back to life. He sees evil in the faces of others. The evil faces appear to him to be rotting and festering with maggots. There are three stories all staring the same character. He is in a different location for each. In one he is in a mental hospital and in another he is in an isolated town with lots paranormal things happening. If your a paranormal fan, you want to give this a shot. I loved the first story, the second story was only above average and I really liked the last story.
    Narrator does an excellent job.
    Suprisingly Good!
What did you love best about The Dead Man Vol 1?
I liked that the character built up over time. This is really more like three 'adventures' for the hero of the book, from the time he first gets his supernatural 'powers' to his knowing more about them and helping others.
What other book might you compare The Dead Man Vol 1 to and why?
    Don't really know.
What does James Daniels and Luke Daniels bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
The readers were pretty good at changing their voices to match the characters, but I couldn't help thinking that one of the 'evil nurses' was a giant frog!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I could enjoy it in one sitting.
    Any additional comments?
Hope the series keeps going. I bought Volume 2 to listen to next.
    Great stories
I wasn't quite sure if I would enjoy a book with different authors who continue with the story. I'm glad I decided to give it a try.
Each author does very well with their chapters, the main character and story stays true throughout.
Horror, supernatural thrills and great story kept me up late into the night listening.

Fans of Stephen King, will LOVE this book!
What did you love best about Once Bitten?
Right from the start, this story draws you in. I know that I have gotten my money's worth, when I find myself picking my kids up early, just so I can listen to my book.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the ending. Sorry, but I can't elaborate. You'll just have find out for yourselves.
What does James Langton bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I love his voice. Also, I found myself enthralled by the story. Only with a truly talented narrator does this happen.
If you could take any character from Once Bitten out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Terry. Hands down. The stories she could tell.
    Any additional comments?
I have had discussions with both, women and men, whom are fans of the paranormal genre. I found something interesting. Whenever I asked them to list the books they liked best, the men tended to list books that had a male author, while the females preferred books penned by women authors.
This book reminded me of this. I kept thinking this is more of a man's vampire story.
Do the characters have sex? Yes, but it's not detailed.
There are no bonding males, that start stinking up the room with
the ending killed the whole story for me.
the ending wasn't even an ending, it just left the story hanging in the middle and as far as I can tell there is no follow up book as this is a stand alone book. very frustrating. I think I'll be returning it since I didn't bargain to purchase half a story when I bought this book. I'm horribly dissapointed.
Pretty Standard Pre Twilight Vampire Story
    Format: Audible Download
This was very much the way vampire stories went before they became all attached to fairy tale endings. Jamie D. Beaverbrook is a British psychologist whose life is in a tailspin. He is going through a divorce, recently his wife and he had an infant die, and he spends his work time assessing people who have been picked up by the Los Angeles Police Department for various crimes. His main means of assessment is a computer program based on his own research. He is also having one of the most annoying early mid-life (35 years old) crises that I've run into in fiction. He obsesses on the various aging processes going on in his body.
Then one day he is called in to assess a young girl who had been found crouching over the body of a dead man in an alley, blood on her face.
It's competently written, for the most part.
