Publisher's Summary:
It's tough enough defending innocent people, but attorney Peter Sharp's new client has a reputation for disliking any person of color, and is then arrested with a smoking gun, standing over the body of a dead black man he had recently been seen arguing with.
To make matters even worse, the district attorney (Peter's bitter ex-wife) has evidence proving that the defendant's gun is in fact the murder weapon, and that both the accused and deceased were in the building in which the crime took place alone when the shooting was done.
Peter has no defense for his client, and gets that sinking feeling every lawyer gets when forced to start a trial without having anything to say on behalf of a client who refuses to accept any plea bargain.
Suspense builds as the trial date approaches because if Peter's team doesn't come up with some facts for a viable defense, then his ex-wife's dream will finally come true and she will convict his client, humiliate her ex-husband in court, and make sure to gloat about it in the after-trial press conferences.
Peter's only hope is that his team will save him before it's time for him to put the defense's case in this high-profile trial in which a police sergeant is being charged with first-degree murder.
You'll be sitting on the edge of your seat until a surprise witness enters the court-room, and demands to be heard - to give testimony that nobody expected, and that affects the outcome of this entire case.

Fun Read
It was okay not a lot of depth to the story. Good if you like to do a bit of light reading.
Fun read that nicely ties together all loose ends in the climax
Until Proven Innocent, Peter Sharp Legal Mystery #5, ISBN: 1882629515, Magic Lamp Press, Paperback 276 pages by Gene Grossman.
This novel follows the activities of lawyer Peter Sharp, his ex-wife and District Attorney Myra Scot, his child ward, Suzi Braunstein, a computer wizard daughter of his deceased former partner, and her `assistant', a huge St Bernard called Bernie.
The plot follows his actions in preparing a defense for "Tony the Cop" , a racist "Dirty Harry" type character and Peter's neighbor in the boat marina where he lives. The problem is magnified by the fact that Tony's recently-fired S&W .50 caliber revolver is in his possession with an empty shell in the chamber when the police are called to the scene. The crime scene is a building empty of all but the victim and Tony and the time is late evening.
Along with Peter's attempts at developing a defense, are a series of contacts with others for rather diverse reasons. There are the producer of a motion picture and his associates who require a consultant, Olive, a former telephone sex operator who is being blackmailed, another grossly obese member of the same group with different problems, Stuart Schwartzman, an entrepreneurial friend, Evelyn, and her daughter who is a young starlet in the film production and assorted others.
The author has woven these various individuals and their activities into a well-tailored plot that involves not only the primary theme of a defense for Tony, but implicates a White Supremacy Group and a DVD pirating operation as well. All of the various stories are wrapped-up in a most interesting climax that very nicely ties together all loose ends in a most admiral fashion.
