Gatsby discussed struggles securing investment as a black founder, noting he has not met a single black investor. He is self-funded so far alongside his partner. Hearing wisdom helped him persevere despite obstacles.
Gatsby advised having confidence like he did leaving a cushy job for his vision. Though success isn't guaranteed, with dedication and problem-solving skills, one can accomplish goals through perseverance.
Gatsby aims to use the app to spur real-life conversations about entertainment, with meetups and giveaways. Users are encouraged to share culture by uploading content, building community through a shared passion.
Gatsby's long-term goal is using the app's success to establish schools supporting black children from an early age, addressing a root cause of lack of black business leaders. Investing in youth will help communities thrive for generations.
Both speakers stressed the importance of identifying and nurturing talent in children early. Differences should be seen as strengths, not limitations. With the right foundations and belief in their abilities, all children can achieve their potential.
