PART TWO

Uncle Ron and Pete get in their time machine and complain about strikers not being signed in 1994 as a simile to not having signed the big number 9 as yet but nostalgia’s not what it used to be as Justin and Ron beat Pete up about his wafer thin Smiths/Morrissey knowledge!

We hear from Jack and a jazz band in a park in Washington DC that seem to get louder the further he walks away from them!

Paul FT joins us and is enthused by the performance and implores us to “trust the process” and be patient. Ellie joins us to question if we have the strategy to get into the play offs which would be success despite sitting in third place currently. Ray enthuses for both the performance and attitude of the players which is in stark contrast to last season and defends Dan Bachmann as he is being told to play in the manner that that he is. We speak to fair weather dog walker and dice enthusiast John about his perspective and his friends (who is a Pilgrims fan) view of the game.

5 word reviews focus on the need for another striker or two and the goalkeeping concerns about Bachmann being too involved in the build up too high up the pitch.

Part One

We talk to the supporters after the 0-0 draw against the Pilgrims. Wendover is his usual positive self and Pete drops him in it with Mrs Wendover over an unannounced potential dinner guest, the still holidaying Rio Woolf about taking our chances when we get into the areas to deliver a shot or a final ball into the box and consider is this a good point or two lost and hear from Aaron from the green and White pod to hear the view from the Plymouth end whilst eating Mexican food!

Regulars Neil and Rich come on, Neil was pleased with the pattern and the style and Rich described the game as a 0-0 massacre feeling that Plymouth were not in the game. Both talk through the game and the players before Rich takes us through his thoughts having attended the “at our place” at the training ground on Thursday evening and who he suspects might be the number 9 most likely to arrive soonish and the word shekel is used – not for the last time on the Spaces….

PART TWO

We speak to Rio who’s o holiday in Crete, Sean makes a great debut call and asks if we have ever scored a quicker goal, we try to talk to PJ in Ireland but the technology gremlins mean that we will have to continue that conversation next time, Martin talks about heart palpitations with our goalkeeper and captain distribution behaviour but reserves special praise for Jeremy Ngakia, Andy see’s Pete’s word of the day (fun) and successfully raises him with an “uplifting” which is a much better word, We almost all agree that Dave should be called Dave – with the exception of So – who awkwardly points out that he already has a perfectly good name that we should use (“Giorgi” – which we presume is short for “Dave”), Pete gets all overexcited and suggests we may end up with Plan A, B and C!! Dan joins us from the train but reception gets the better of us but not before reinforcing that Dave was great fun, yet another superb first time call from Lee driving back to Rugby in a great mood and offering a great breakdown of the afternoon whilst at all time acknowledging that QPR will not be the high water mark of opposition this season. Finally Ben Pegram joins us having single handedly keeping Premier team away from Joao Pedro for a season offering to be the sacrificial lamb if Watford win the next two games!!!!

The overly convoluted question league continues to take form and we review the 5 word and long form reviews.

No one, it is said expects the Spanish inquisition - but NO ONE expected this!!! 33 seconds and 1-0 to the good and 4-0 up at half time!!!! Wow!!

We all reconvene for the first match at the Vic and the first Post Match Phone In after thrilling performance against the R's who did the double over us last term. Yes the opposition weren't good and we mustn't get carried away - there will be stiffer tests this season and we are still short in the squad - but bloomin 'eck this was fun!!!

Thoughts on Louza, the Crow, full backs who cut inside, Pat Butcher really delivering a performance with not a single new signing in the starting line up are thrown in and we discuss if Georgi Chekvetadze should be known as "Dave".

Its (sort of) local rivals QPR coming to the Vic for the opener because their pitch isn’t ready – we ask all the important questions like – where do old scarfs and shirts actually go, why has Justin got a QPR shirt and does that make him a traitor, how do QPR fans remember former Hornets player and manager Glenn Roeder who played for Rangers in the early 80’s, how is Gareth Ainsworth considered after the 5-0 Oxford United pre-season defeat, why is it Watford who always get them going if only for one game, we try to work out who has had the worst closed season in terms transfers, have QPR signed Meghan Fox and why do Stoke and Brum seem to have money? What is the point of FFP if you’re a small club, what’s Pete’s favourite niche horse race, how will the League 1 promoted teams do this season – and who in the hell is Joe Gubbins?!?

Pete makes a complete porridge of the newly formatted Prediction league and Justin is apoplectic that he might not be allowed to select 1-1 all season for every game, John Parslow rolls some dice, Carl tries to complicate everything but is roundly ignored, and despite all protestations Justin picks 1-1!!!!

With the prediction league out of the way we talk our team kits and whether we like the newly launched shy blue 3rd kit and the 85th anniversary of the Beano and why QPR’s second kit is a tribute to the comic!
