On today’s episode, we are going to be speaking with Dr. Antonio Webb about overcoming the odds. He is an Orthopedic Surgery resident, Iraq combat veteran, author, and motivational speaker.
I’m a fan of the concept “reach one, teach one.” When you learn something or accomplish big things in your life, it’s just as important to teach others who are coming up behind you! We’re going to hear Dr Webb’s miraculous journey from a difficult upbringing, to combat in the Iraq war, and now an Orthopedic Surgeon.
Dr. Webb is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and he writes about growing up surrounded by drugs and gangs, then deciding that the military was for him, and eventually developing a strong interest in medicine in his book Overcoming the Odds.
I got a chance to read his book and found it to be an easy to read and compelling. He’s also become very successful on YouTube, with over 1 million views on all of his videos!

On this solo episode, I’m sharing the Top 5 Personal Finance Blogs for Physicians that I read to financially to think outside the box. Don’t believe me? Check out this episode where I talk about meeting an insurance agent at a club!
Once I accepted the responsibility, I set out to never be taken advantage of again. Below are the current personal finance blogs that I consume! These are excellent sites and offer a great education without being snobby! And because we’re cool like dat…I’ve even curated three posts from each blog to get you started if you’re new to them. LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE ON: APPLE PODCASTS | GOOGLE PLAY | STITCHER | SPOTIFYOn this episode, I’m interviewing Dr. Robert Gore. He’s an Emergency Medicine physician who is fighting to save the lives of young people from violence in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Gore is accomplishing this through his organization called Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI). KAVI is a hospital and school-based youth violence, intervention, prevention and empowerment program targeting teens that have been injured as a result of violence or at risk for violent and recurrent violent injury.
If you are looking for the blueprint on how to have an impact on your community this is the episode for you. We talked about the dynamics of being raised in “pre-gentrified” Brooklyn and the effects it had on his career trajectory.
I got a chance to meet Dr. Gore while I was a medical student doing a sub-internship at Cook County Hospital. He was impressive then, but to see his impact now…it’s awe-inspiring.
