Maggie Holland is our special guest today. She's a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and is passionate about helping women through anxiety, depression and stress. She's also well-versed in narcissism.
This episode provides an in-depth overview of the concept of Triangulation. While triangulation can innocently happen in healthy situations and relationships from time to time, it can become dangerous when narcissists use it as a manipulative tactic. This is when they try to pull someone else into an argument or disagreement to get them on their side and gang up on you, making you question your thoughts, beliefs or experience. Sometimes, they can even use a generalized group of people or an imaginary group and say things like, "everyone I've talked to about this agrees with me." They may need that validation because they don't have a leg to stand on.
Maggie talks through the dynamics of who is involved, the process, why narcissists use it, and how to recognize when this is happening as well as how to navigate and react.
While you might think this only happens in romantic relationships, she sheds light on how this can persist in relationships with family, siblings, friends and even co-workers.
