Down The Hatch

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) handcuff themselves to one another to take on "Left Behind."

In "Left Behind," Kate and Juliet trek through the jungle on an ill-advised bonding trip. In the past, we find out about Kate and Cassidy's old friendship. Back at the beach, Hurley convinces Sawyer to play "Survivor." The whole thing is totally fine!

About Down the Hatch ...

LOST: Down the Hatch is a full-tilt spoiler-filled rewatch of LOST. Every week, Josh and Mike break down an episode of LOST with the benefit of knowing the series' full trajectory, using the following structure as a guide:

• We Go "Fourth" - Josh and Mike begin each podcast with a deep-dive into the story both in front of and behind the camera, and they do so with the assistance of eight sound clips from each episode.

• The Others - Josh and Mike answer questions sent their way by listeners through the official e-mail address: [email protected]

• 23 Points - Each week, Josh and Mike hand out points for the best and worst characters of the episode in question, in a foolhardy attempt to determine the most and least valuable players in the LOST pantheon.

• 4.2 Stars - Josh and Mike rank every episode of LOST, by rating them all on a scale from 0 - 4.2. Josh and Mike offer their individual scores, listeners' scores will be averaged as a third data point, then the three points combine as the podcast's official score on each episode.

Razzle dazzle! Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) take on the most polarizing episode in "Lost" history: "Exposé."

In "Exposé," we finally get the flashback episode we were always waiting for: Nikki and Paulo, fresh from stealing some diamonds, on their way toward being buried alive. It's an apology letter writ large as an episode of television. Some people love it. Some people hate it. Josh and Mike talk through both points and dig their way through the controversial wreckage.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) aren't looking for Jack. They're looking for the submarine.

In "The Man From Tallahassee," John Locke strikes back against the Others when he goes rogue on the Jack Shephard rescue mission, leading to some of the best-written one-on-one scenes in the series up to this point — namely, the ones with Locke and Ben. But the scene-chewing expands far beyond just that one dynamic, as "The Man From Tallahassee" reveals the origin of Locke's paralysis, and shines a new light on the relationship between Jack and Kate.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are fishing for birds. Does one fish for birds? Either way, they're caught in the net known as "Par Avion," the final Claire Littleton flashback episode on LOST.

In "Par Avion," Claire decides to rescue the gang with the help of some winged friends. But her non-winged friends Charlie and Desmond have other plans in mind. In the past, we learn about Claire's father, and elsewhere on the island, the sonar pings strike back.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) push the button. This time, it's a bad choice.

In "Enter 77," we focus on "The Inspectors Rousseau," a crew consisting of John Locke, Kate Austen, Danielle Rousseau and the flashback focus himself, Sayid Jarrah. The quartet encounter Mikhail "Patchy" Bakunin, and madness ensues. On the beach, it's Hurley versus Sawyer in the ping pong match of the center. All in all, a good old time on LOST!

This week on Down the Hatch, it's time for "Tricia Tanaka is Dead," a formative episode of "LOST" for the friendship between Josh and Mike. They touch on why, and then delve into the ways in which this one hour of television makes their hearts sing like a bunch of weirdos riding a busted-up van in the middle of a mysterious island jungle.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) discuss the worst episode of "Lost," ever.

This week on Down the Hatch, it's all about Jack's tattoos. That's right, we have finally arrived: "Stranger in a Strange Land," widely considered the single worst episode in the entirety of "Lost." But is it the worst? Is that just a cool thing to say about an episode that has (at least some) merit? Josh and Mike explore!

Mike Bloom's 4.2 Star Episode Ranking Rubrik

4.2 - Perfect episode of LOST. Firing on all cylinders, no real weak points

4.0-4.1 - Near-perfect episode of LOST. Has one or two minor things that are meh or weak.

3.7-3.9 - Awesome episode of LOST. Has one or two major things that are meh or weak.

3.3-3.6 - Great episode of LOST. Many great elements, but not enough to put it in the top tier

3.0-3.2 - Good episode of LOST. More good than bad, but not a lot of outstanding moments

2.5-2.9 - Below average episode of LOST. Has a few redeeming moments, but a lot of misses as well

Well, this is awkward! Looks like Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) booked their recording space at the same time as "Rob and Akiva Need a Podcast" hosts Rob Cesternino (@robcesternino) and Akiva Wienerkur (@Keev26). The solution? Podcast together!

It's a joint episode of RAANAP and Down the Hatch, just in time for season three, episode seven. Warning to the very faithful LOST listeners: spicy and borderline sacrilegious takes lie ahead. Proceed with caution.
