Down The Hatch

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) spend more than two hours staring at the Blast Door Map, as they get down and dirty with “Lockdown.”

In their discussion of “Lockdown,” Josh and Mike break down the second John Locke flashback of LOST season two, as the Man of Faith finds himself locked in the hatch with “Henry Gale,” if that’s even his real name. (Spoiler: it’s not.) Plus, poker! Lots going on in “Lockdown,” and lots going on this week in the LOST universe, as the storied series celebrates the 10th anniversary of its series finale. Josh and Mike will return soon with some celebratory shenanigans.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are fresh out of milk as they dive into “The Whole Truth.”

In their discussion of LOST season 2 episode 16, Josh and Mike go off in search of Henry Gale’s balloon alongside Ana-Lucia, Sayid and Charlie. Meanwhile, it’s trouble in paradise for Jin and Sun, as flashbacks illuminate their previous marital woes, and the present reveals a new upcoming addition to the family.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) take on “Maternity Leave,” but only in the LOST sense.

In their discussion of “Maternity Leave,” Josh and Mike break down the second-ever episode of LOST to take place entirely on the island — even if it’s not quite as successful as “The Other 48 Days,” in their humble opinion. With that said, Josh and Mike are all in on Henry Gale’s latest antics, Mr. Eko’s newest fashion decision, and a whole lot about the trip to The Staff.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are full of hot air as they break down “One of Them,” and the debut of one of the most legendary characters in LOST lore.

In their discussion of “One of Them,” Josh and Mike join Sayid Jarrah on a trek through the jungle to meet a strange man caught in a net: Henry Gale, a hot air balloon enthusiast — or so he claims. Longtime LOST viewers know much better. Josh and Mike run down the arrival of Benjamin Linus, the ill-conceived “Sawyer and Hurley fight a frog” storyline, and much more.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are here to put one in your ear — another LOST podcast, that is!

In their discussion of “The Long Con,” Josh and Mike run down the only Sawyer flashback in season two, get acquainted with a certain chicken (salad) man, bring Kim Dickens’ Cassidy into the picture, and much more. It’s a deep dive into one of Josh’s all-time personal favorites, with a lot of talk about vegetables on the side.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) pour some water on the fire known as “Fire + Water,” the twelfth episode of LOST season two — and the worst episode of LOST, ever.

In “The Hunting Party,” Jack (Matthew Fox), Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and Locke (Terry O’Quinn) trek through the jungle on a mission to find Michael (Harold Perrineau), who has run off to find his son. What they find is something else entirely: the Others — specifically, Mr. Friendly (M.C. Gainey). It’s one of the most iconic scenes from season two, but is it enough to put “The Hunting Party” in elite status? Josh and Mike weigh that in their latest LOST recap.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) put their feet up on all kinds of things they aren’t supposed to put their feet on, in an effort to suss out the Others.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) walk through the valley of the shadow of death to talk about the one and only Mr. Eko.

In “The 23rd Psalm,” actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje steps into the spotlight as Eko, presently a priest, previously something very different. In their breakdown of the episode, Josh and Mike dig into Eko’s back story, debate his status as the most stable character on LOST, get into the start of Charlie’s drug addiction story, and more.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) get on their high horses to judge “What Kate Did.”

In “What Kate Did,” the audience finally learns what Kate did! SHE VOTED OUT HER MOM! Sorry, read that wrong, SHE EXPLODED HER DAD! Also, she sees a horse on the island, and Josh and Mike can’t get enough of the horse. All that and much more in a typically ridiculous installment of the DOWN THE HATCH podcast.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) resume their roles of Billy Wallace and Rodney Cesteau, two background Oceanic 815 survivors (not to mention murderous narcissists) in the second episode of LOST Down the Hatch Presents: Tales From The Island, “The Other Other 48 Days.”

Over the course of Down the Hatch, Josh and Mike will periodically transform the podcast into a full-on tabletop roleplaying game, ala Dungeons and Dragons. The mystical and mysterious R Filly (@Wharfrat1625) joins them in the role of dungeon master, presiding over Josh and Mike’s myriad misadventures and playing the roles of various non-playable characters in this full-on fan-fiction flurry of events from LOST.

In “The Other Other 48 Days,” Rich guides Josh’s Billy and Mike’s Rodney through more than a month’s worth of events from the island, as the Bulk and Skull of LOST link up with new pals, make new enemies, play golf, and casually murder a couple of folks. Good times! It’s yet another fully ridiculous installment of Post Show Recaps Theater, which — it bears noting — is outright fan fiction, and probably not for everyone. If it’s not your cup of tea, move right along to the next recap episode! If you’re a fan, however, Josh, Mike and Rich will resume Tales from the Island at an unknown point in the future. As always, send feedback to [email protected].
