Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) go down the hatch and close the book on season one of LOST, with a jam-packed feedback-filled retrospective. The special podcast shuts the door on the first season of the series, and sets the stage for the next wave of episodes: season two, and all the button-pushing it brings.
In their sprawling recap of the three-part “Exodus,” Josh and Mike break down what both hosts believe is among the finest episodes in all of Lost, if not right at the very top. They enumerate the reasons why, from the moving Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and Jack (Matthew Fox) scene in the jungle, to the raft launch, to the raft explosion, and beyond. It’s a massive recap of a massive episode, to say the least.
“Exodus” was directed by Jack Bender and written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. It first aired across two nights: May 18, 2005 and May 25, 2005.
About Down the Hatch …LOST: Down the Hatch is a full-tilt spoiler-filled rewatch of LOST. Every week, Josh and Mike break down an episode of LOST with the benefit of knowing the series’ full trajectory, using the following structure as a guide:
Each episode of Down the Hatch clocks in at no less than 108 minutes. If the podcast falls short of that runtime, Josh and Mike have triggered a crisis! Consequences may (and almost certainly will) ensue thanks to the Frozen Donkey Wheel.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) unleash the latest Down the Hatch time capsule in their ongoing Lost rewatch, this week covering the third and final Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly) episode of season one: “Born to Run.”
In “Born to Run,” Kate is desperate to get on the raft, launching imminently. Her clear desire to escape the island leads to a dramatic feud within the group, as Michael (Harold Perrineau) becomes sick, fingers are initially pointed at Sawyer (Josh Holloway), before they firmly land on a certain tropical fugitive.
“Born to Run” was directed by Tucker Gates, story by Javier Grillo-Marxuach, with teleplay by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. It first aired May 11, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) did not know Boone, but they are going to eulogize him anyway — and my, are they inappropriately dressed for a funeral!
In “The Greater Good,” Jack (Matthew Fox) and John Locke (Terry O’Quinn) begin their famous rivalry with a blow-out fight at Boone’s funeral. In the middle of it all: Sayid (Naveen Andrews), who Shannon (Maggie Grace) enlists to interrogate Locke and punish the man — a directive Shannon takes into her own hands when Sayid’s results are significantly less than satisfying.
“The Greater Good” was directed by David Grossman and written by Leonard Dick. It first aired May 4, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) are here to fix you … up another serving of Down the Hatch, that is!
In “Do No Harm,” Jack Shephard (Matthew Fox) scrubs in to save Boone Carlisle (Ian Somerhalder) from certain doom. Deeper in the jungle, Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly) is tasked with helping Claire Littleton (Emilie de Ravin) through unexpected labor. Sayid (Naveen Andrews) and Shannon (Maggie Grace) are off on a date of their own, while Locke (Terry O’Quinn) is nowhere to be seen. The stakes are high as they have ever been, and the result is one of the most underrated episodes in Lost lore.
“Do No Harm” was directed by Stephen Williams and written by Janet Tamaro. It first aired April 6, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) have done everything you wanted them to do, so why have you done this, TO THEM?
In their recap of “Deus Ex Machina,” Josh and Mike go on a vision quest through the jungle with John Locke (Terry O’Quinn), with bad ramifications for a certain wedding business owner. In the past, Locke meets his father, Anthony Cooper, one of the most loathsome figures in all of LOST lore. By the end of it all, a light shines in the jungle, signaling the coming arrival of a fan-favorite button-pusher.
“Deux Ex Machina” was directed by Robert Mandel, co-written by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. It first aired March 30, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) play the numbers. It goes oddly.
In their recap of “Numbers,” Josh and Mike follow Hurley (Jorge Garcia) into the jungle on his quest to make sense of a legendary sequence: 4 8 15 16 23 42. They are spry enough to keep pace, though not spry enough to get out of a certain segment any sooner than 12 minutes. Trust us, you’ll know it when you get to it.
“Numbers” was directed by Dan Attias and written by David Fury and Brent Fletcher. It originally aired on March 2, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) didn’t start the fire, but they’re hopping into the blaze anyway with their recap of the first (and, apparently, only) solo Jin Kwon flashback episode, “…In Translation.”
In “…In Translation,” Daniel Dae Kim steps into the spotlight to reveal new sides of Jin, up to this point depicted as a ruthless outsider, here revealed as a deeply misunderstood and damaged individual. Josh and Mike talk about how Jin’s story unfolds, and they also make a meal out of the episode title’s ellipsis.
“…In Translation” was directed by Tucker Gates and written by Javier Grillo-Marxuach and Leonard Dick. It originally aired on February 23, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) become boar experts and “Outlaws” in their latest episode of the LOST rewatch.
In “Outlaws,” Sawyer (Josh Holloway) undertakes two missions of vengeance: one against a boar on the island who has been rampaging through his stuff, and one against a man in Sydney who is allegedly responsible for ruining his life. In the process, he crosses paths with friends and foes, makes some new drinking buddies, and maybe even earns a few rare MVP points in the process.
“Outlaws” was directed by Jack Bender and written by Drew Goddard. It originally aired on February 16, 2005.

Josh Wigler (@roundhoward) and Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) welcome Rob Cesternino (@robcesternino) to the island for the first ever LOST: Down the Hatch song parody contest.
That’s right — it’s time for THE LINDELOFF, in which various singers from across the world compete for their chance at earning a prestigious Wombat Station hat. With the help of the ghost of Casey Kasem broadcasting from the island’s radio tower, Josh, Rob and Mike settle in and listen to the musical stylings of several different Hatchlings weighing in on various corners of the LOST canon.
Vote on the winner of The Lindeloff, Vol. 1 by going to postshowrecaps.com/votedamon. The winner will be revealed during the Down the Hatch recap of “…In Translation.”
