Intense series, Great conclusion

Chris moves to solitary NC with his recently divorced alcoholic mother in the beginning of his junior year of High school. He quickly realizes all is not kosher in the backwoods town. The town is ruled and manipulated by and overbearing thug type character who in turn is ultimately ruled by a creepy old man being kept alive by evil supernatural circumstances.

Through the series Chris begins to see that it is no accident he and his mom, who grew up in solitary , Moved back to town. There is a battle over Chris soul and to continue solitary's place as a gateway for evil to enter the world. Chris is an unlikely hero, the best kind...He never knows where to turn and who to trust. People around him betray him, others are threatened and even killed. In this series he goes through a spiritual transformation that helps in his battle against evil forces.

I went through all four books in a row. At first I was not sure about the narration but by the end of the first book I thought Heyborne was perfect for the voice of Chris.

. I am an adult an this is a series based on the last two years of high school for a teenage boy. However there is enough meat for adults and Chris goes through some very adult struggles during his journey.

I very much appreciated the sarcasm in times of trouble that went through Chris' mind. And some of the just funny scenes...Chris getting his license for one.

This series is creepy, spooky and intensely scary all while being funny, a little sappy and spiritual.

The religious theme is throughout the series but in my opinion is never hokey. I thought the author did a great job in using secular themes such as songs and song lyrics and also spiritual themes, especially verses from the Bible that were completely appropriate to the circumstances. Psalms for comfort in times of fear and trouble and Words from Paul about putting on the full armor of God to face an epic spiritual battle.

There are great characters in this book: the creepy pastor, the geeky friend, all the girls Chris gets involved with some more likable than others, the high school bully, the ever smoking unlikely friend "Brick" who shows up when needed most, the strange and troubled Aunt, The Jittery Alcoholic Uncle, The old lady who may be an angel, The hound from hell and the wolves...to name a few.

The only criticisms I have, The author basically made every Girl and woman in the series "hot" and made many weight comments that I done think teenagers need to dwell on anymore than they already do.

From Newsies To Pipers

Eleven Pipers Piping, by Angela Breidenbach, is a charming addition to the Montana Beginnings series. Although second in the series, the novella is easily a stand alone read. Mirielle, a teacher at a boys' school in 1890s Helena, has a special place in her heart and life for the eleven newsies that are now threatened with being rounded up and sent off to military school or become indentured servants. These young Orphan Train boys who sell newspapers to survive have been called rowdy hooligans and uncouth youth by the townspeople but Mirielle sees beyond the dirt of the streets and sees potential. Evan, a father looking for a lost son, asks Mirielle for help. Can they find 6-year-old Joseph or is he truly gone? Will the newsies help? How in the world is Mirielle going to save the newsies from being sent away? Will the wealthy townspeople respond to her plea for help? A little bit of Montana history, a little bit of romance and a lot of hope makes for an engaging story. The audiobook was narrated well by Tristan Leder, giving each character their own unique voice.

Honorable clean sweet read

This was a very nice short listen of hope and making dreams come true. There is nothing more powerful than a women giving up her life to protect boys that live on the street. Her job is cut out for her when she is told you have ex number of days to turn these boys around and make them model citizens or they will be sold in indenture service or given to the military. This is one passionate lady that goes beyond the call to bring a few children happiness and a new home and the father looking for his son willing to help her.

Tristan Leder did a wonderful job of narration you could feel the pain, sorrow and power in her voice. Her voice is calm and smooth making this an enjoyable listen. Her male voices are just as nice is her females one. There are no background noises just one clean and clear listen.

It was a very enjoyable listen but since it is just a short listen there isnt much more you can say without giving the story away. The author does give you a believable read with great characters. You heart goes out to these young boys as they deal with day to day issues of just staying alive. I feel most would enjoy this. If you are looking for a clean short read filled with love of children this is the book for you.

A delightful Interlude

Once again, Breiden takes us back to 19th century Montana. Who cannot be charmed by scrappy street boys, a hero in search of his son, and a heroin determined to help all of them? This novella is a treat.

Beautiful sory of hope

I enjoyed listening to this story being read by Tristan Leder. This is the second book in the Montana Beginnings series, but can stand alone. Mirielle Sheehan has taken upon herself to train 11 rowdy boys to be model citizens after a confrontation with the school superintendent.

Swee Story with Deep Meaning

What I Liked: Adventures was a sweet story to allow myself to be swept away to. Reading it reminded me of watching a Narnia movie, as it is set in the medieval period and contains castle sieges and battles out at sea :D There were so many small-yet-profound lessons to be gleaned from Alditha and William's story- mainly around our perception of God vs how He really is, and also not allowing hardship to harden you, embitter you. I loved the main characters determination to do right, and to always endeavor to see the bright side of things (something I could learn a lesson or two from ;)

What I Didn't Like: At several parts throughout the story, I found myself, while always ennoying it and not getting bored, wondering exactly what the plot was, or what it was leading up to. I think I kept waiting for this big build up to a climax or big main problem Alditha would have to overcome....when in reality, instead of one big mountian, the obstacles came in little hills and valleys for our characters (yes the last one is a little bigger ;). They do however round off nicely at the end. This book would make a great tv mini-series lol.

Excellent Story!!

Alditha is the main character in this book and is an absolute inspiration. As I read through the book, watching her go through struggle after struggleâstruggles that I would have caved under mind youâwatching as she smiled and listened to her fatherâs advice of being kind, I couldnât help but be inspired.

This book, to me, is a fiction, retelling of the prequel to Robin Hood (a retelling of Robin Hood is her second book in this series.) And I must admit, I really really really love The Robin Hood stories.

Things I Loved:

I love love love the character development in this book, I love the relationships between the characters and watching Alditha grow is so inspiring. I love the ending to this book, and I really would read it again and again.

Things I Didnât Love:

The beginning of this book, while melancholy was pivitol to this story. So while I didnât like the beginning of the book at first, once Iâd finished I understood itâs importance.

This is a story about a people without choices, the peasants in the middle ages. A young woman in that day decides to make a choice and save a friend and it sends her away from her family but unbeknownst to her to the man she would love, and to a new family - but danger as well. In this book we get a picture of all ranks of society, from kings to peasants and the vast disparity as well as how much they shared in common.

Powerful story!!

I just recently finished reading Because of the Rain and was so blessed by this book. What a story of love, mercy, grace, and restoration!! This book covers some very sensitive subjects in a beautiful way. It tells the story of a married couple who are still very much in love after many years of marriage and two daughters. On a business trip with her husband, Anna is brutally beaten and raped, and as a result of the rape, finds herself pregnant. There is a lot of raw emotion as Anna comes to terms with what has happened to her and works through her anger and fear...along with her relationship with her husband and daughters. This book handles the moral dilemma of a woman of faith who finds herself in an impossible situation, and how through faith and the love and support of her husband, God brings beauty from the ashes of her pain and grief. The decisions she makes may surprise you, but I will leave that up to you to discover. I highly recommend Because of the Rain

Wow!

Deborah Randy weaves an incredible story about faith, living your convictions, and submitting to God's will. She tackles a tough, controversial subject very well.

Absolutely Fantastic

I wish there were more stars to give this book. I couldn't believe how quickly I became caught up in the story. This book is a testament to how powerful the love between two people can be and how, even the most secure couple needs the love and comfort that only God can give. With that kind of faith they can truly survive anything. This is a powerful story that brought me to tears of both sadness and joy. I was sorry to finish the book. It is truly uplifting, showing that with God even the worst things in life He can turn into blessings.

The Blessing

An extraordinarily difficult subject - a rape that results in a pregnancy - written in a sensitive way, I am blessed. The couple struggled with their convictions to make the right decisions in a very real way. They suffered too with their choices. This is a Christian novel that leaves you with hope.

Some situations, like adult daughter Kara's reaction and some of Anna's choices, were a stretch, but overall this was an honest look at how difficult it can be sometimes to truly follow our God. I just wish there were more prayers along the way.

Beautiful Storytelling

Back a year or two ago, I received a rough copy of Abbyâs Letters to beta read and instantly fell in love with the story. And that was an early copy. Since itâs official publication a few weeks ago, I have reread the finished story and fallen even more in love with it!

There are so many things I could address in this review today, and honestly, I might just mention all of them. This story is just so beautifully written. I want to gush over it for hours. I think that was what I was most in love with in this novel. The writing.

Being a writer myself, I am always evaluating the writing style of the books I read. I learn so much just from reading others work and come to appreciate the story immensely more as I observe the inner workings of the piece.

As I observed the details of Abbyâs Letters, there were some specific aspects of the story that I particularly loved. These things were mainly centered around the characters. I loved the characters and admired how well they were written.

As Dana introduced each character into the story, she expanded on each with just the right ratio of information based on their standing in the narrative. She never gave too much or too little information on a character. I wasnât left stranded in piecing together a characterâs image or overwhelmed with too many details. The characters were solidly presented.

Dana also presented the characters in the ideal way of showing instead of telling. You learn many of the characters attributes from the dialogue and other actions, not so much through a paragraph of information dumping.

Another thing I admired about the characters were their development throughout the story. Each character grew in a different aspect that resulted in a well-rounded image that set them up to continue expanding in the next installment.

My favorite character development was that of the main character, Jane. Specifically in the aspect of her thoughts and feelings towards her mother. At first, the actions of her mom leaves Jane confused and resentful, but those feelings eventually evolve into something different.

A new favorite character.

I have a new favorite fictional character. Like me you'll fall in love with Woong as you follow his life. He starts out as a very young boy living a relatively good life but lives through things no child should have to go through. He somehow manages to keep an upbeat outlook despite living through the famine genuinely experienced in South Korea in the 1990s. He's not cheery about it â that would be ridiculous given what he goes through, but he's stoic without ever sinking into "poor me." The best word for him I think would be insouciant. It will take me a long time to absorb all the nuances of just who he is and who he becomes in this relatively short book. I've been able to read it twice already because I was blessed with a free copy for an honest review, but the minute it was available for preorder, I put in my request from Amazon. I know I'll read and re-read this book over and over again. And fall in love over and over again with this engaging little boy. You will too.

To powerful for words

In the last book of the N. Korean series Alana Terry deals with the the sensitive subject of the flower swallows. The flower swallows are the unwanted and starving street children of a society already in crisis due to extreme famine. The government is not helping and everyone is hungry. In a society that does not encourage helping others but is instead every person for themselves, where they are rewarded for turning on neighbors, friends and even family in a corrupt political system, children are often abandoned to the streets by their own family. From the start of this book I couldn't put it down. It was a compelling story that needed to be told. Told from the the viewpoint of young Woong a little boy ripped from his family by a flood at the beginning of the famine. While this book is fiction the reality of starvation isn't.

Great Story of Hope

Believe is the story of one woman's loss and the emotions and feelings she goes through on her journey of healing. You will go through all of those emotions with her and if you have ever lost anyone you were close to, you will know exactly where she is coming from. It's hard not to question what you believe after you lose someone and I thought the author did an excellent job of portraying this.

Shelly Hickman wrote and narrated this book and I really enjoyed both the writing and the narration. Her voice is clear and crisp and the emotion in the writing comes through in the narration.

From the title, it might be assumed that this is a spiritual book but it is not. There is strong language involved. This book is about hope and healing and I really enjoyed it.

A story of heartbreak, healing and hope!

Believe is a story of one individuals loss of a loved one. It tells of how she dealt with her feelings and the experience as a whole. It is a story of heartbreak, healing and hope. Believe will take you on a journey that will step on all of your emotions. This story is one that you can relate to on different levels whether it is the loss of your child or the loss of a close relative. Every person goes through similar feelings and starts to question what they believe. Believe takes you through the journey and can help you to know that you are not alone; others out there go through the same thing.

I thought the author did a great job of putting into a story the different emotions and experiences that happen when you lose someone you love. You start to question things you might not have questioned before. Believe is well written and will keep your attention to the very end. This is not a romantic book or a spiritual book. It is simply a book that will give you hope.

Shelly Hickman did a great job with the narration. She had a clear and crisp voice that was easy to follow.

Anyone that is struggling with a loss or just wants confirmation that his or her feelings are normal then this is a book for you. This story will give you a sense of peace and hope.

This audiobook is enjoyable to listen to. It's fun discovering a couple of surprises. Its an interesting storywith a supernatural elements weaved inabout a corrupt SPCA shelter directors crimes and indiscretions being uncovered.

I loved this murder mystery. Such great characters. As the investigation proceeds, the plot has some wonderful twists and turns.

Save The Animals

I enjoyed this audio book that was given to me in exchange for a review.

I am an enthusiastic animal lover and totally believe in rescue procedures for all animals. This book endorses my beliefs greatly. I have to admit there were a few parts that were hard to hear about but these parts expressed what happens to some animals. It's a cruel world sometimes and I hope that anyone who listens to this book will be inspired to donate to a rescue facility. I joined the "Best Friends' group after the hurricanes lately.

The fact that this book was also a murder mystery made it even more interesting since I love a good mystery. The story is a good one and I really enjoyed it.

The narrator Kevin presented this book well.

I give this book 4 stars.

Great story; great message.

The obvious social commentary woven into this book is a topic that definitely brings out the passion in many people. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and almost subtle way the author provided a case for no-kill animal treatment for dogs and cats. I also liked the way the authored called out the mainstream media for ostracizing pit bulls.

For animal lovers

I received a copy of this book for an honest review. I liked the story. The only thing is that the narrator was a bit dull. There is fantasy and along with what happens in real life. I wasnt sure if I could finish it because of the narrator but the story was what kept me listening. Got me angry, sad and happy in the same hr. Still amazes me how much of the story of the book actually happens in real life.

an author with a true knowledge of the old West

Kirby Jonas proves once again that he is a very talented and knowledgeable author. When you read one of his books, you feel like you are a part of it, like you can smell the pine and sage, feel the dust. His characters feel like real people and he has the ability to make you feel love or hate for them. You can tell a lot of research has went into his work. I would definitely recommend his books to anyone who loves the old West as much as I do... And as much as Mr. Jonas seems to do. Once I start a book by him, I don't want to put it down. This book, like all of his books, stayed true to the time period. Great book, if I could give it more than five stars I would.

Enjoyed this story very much!

Mr. Jonas has once again managed to entertain me, and captivate my attention with his wonderful characters and writing style. This is story of a man who has known death on an intimate level since he was barely a teenager, and therefore sees himself as unlovable. But, as Matthew eventually learns, love shall not be denied, and men who always do the right thing are indeed very lovable!

I truly enjoy Mr. Jonas' style, this is my 3rd book of his that I've read in 2 weeks... and I'm off to decide on the next one. You will not be disappointed in any of his books, I haven't been.

What an incredible book!

Kirby you have out done yourself once again!

20 years ago I read nearly every night. Since then I have been hit or miss...that is until I started reading books authored by Kirby Jonas. I have to be a bit cautious as to when I choose to start a new book. It results in very little else being accomplished in my life, because I can't put the book down. Mr. Jonas is a great author who has a unique ability to include many situations and details that set up coming together for a great ending. Take the time to read this book, you will not be disappointed!

I really like the plot. The main character struggles against her one beliefs.
