    EXCELLENT!!
What made the experience of listening to Marked the most enjoyable?
Brilliant author with a good story line and the most outstanding narrator! Mr Daniel May perform so very well.
What does Daniel May bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
His narration is so good. He performs the male and females well. I like the series so much I have already downloaded all three books and am now waiting anxiously for Bk 4. I hope it will be soon.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes all the reactions. I feel so sorry for Adam Ward and the unfairness towards him. Luckily he have allies too.
    Any additional comments?
I hope Alex Hughes will please write more on this series. Also please Audible make future books available ASAP!!!
    I Enjoyed the Entire Series
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
For me good books are defined by characters I am interested in. This does not mean I have to like them or their actions, but I ultimately have to be interested. Cherubino and Adam were interesting characters that made me want to continue to listen adn find out how they could possibly reconcile their complex relationship and the environment they find themselves in.Good story, good characters. Highly entertaining.
What did you like best about this story?
Adam cannot catch a break yet carries on....I also enjoyed that Al;ex Hughes is female writer, which I thought brought an interesting element to a genre that is often male dominated. Knowing this enhanced my enjoyment of the storyline and the characters. Though the genre can be sometimes conventional, her handling of the material was unconventional. Well done Alex Hughes, I hope to listen to the next installment real soon.
What does Daniel May bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
I though Daniel May did a fine, fine job. He was credible with the different characters, which made them stand out. I like it when a narrator does this, it enhances the story and brings additional life to the characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I could see this being made into a movie. I think alot of people would enjoy it...I would not be one of them. I enjoy books more than TV or movies because they act on your imagination more.
    Any additional comments?
If you are not a listener who usually reads police or detective stories give this a try.

The Alliance of Worlds, which includes Earth as a ruled non-member, has decided that humans are to be annihilated as an example to anyone who discovers an ancient alien technology, even though there is no proof against them. The Alliance thinks fifty thousand warships can do the job. Unfortunately, the humans are not cooperating with their plan and one young human who has fallen in love will change everything...

    A Thoroughly Entertaining Story
What did you love best about Annihilation?
It was an uncomplicated, but imaginative and well-told story that moved along very engagingly. Just the right mix of humor, action, and syfy.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. I laid in bed until after 6am to finish the story.
    Any additional comments?
The voice effects were particularly clever and well-done. This was the first audiobook production that I have ever listened to that made the effort to do this.
I have listened to over 200 audiobooks and this is the first time I have been motivated to write a review. I am concerned that without sufficient encouragement I may never see the remainder of the story written or produced.
    Great Scifi Action Audiobook!
Really enjoyed this audiobook! The story is phenomenal, being Book 1 in a great long series. The characters like Tag grow on you as you get glimpses of who he is as a child when he discovers his unique abilities. The story is filled with great action scenes, from hand to hand combat to space battles and ground battles. The performance and effects here were amazing! Like listening to a movie! Simply can't wait for the next one to come out!
Made Me Realize How Jaded I've Become!
I should have HATED this book! "Should Have"... Within the first 30 minutes, I THOUGHT I knew how this plot was going to play out. Typical "Good Versus Evil, On A Far Future Earth"... I rolled my eyes and thought, "Maybe it'll surprise you.. At least keep listening until you go to sleep"... Didn't Sleep AT ALL That Night!!
I SHOULD HAVE Hated this book, because a young man with "Special Powers" goes WAY 'over and above' to help people he had NO REASON to help, other than "It was the right thing to do", even at a HIGH cost to himself, Every time...
...This, on a future Earth where EVERYTHING about your future is decided BEFORE you're even old enough to TRY to better "Yourself".
Your parents get divorced? Then YOU can't marry because your genes predispose YOU to have the tendency to "Produce Children and then frivolously divorce YOUR spouse".

    Good Sequel
    Any additional comments?
Honors Knight is the sequel to the fabulous Fortunes Pawn, which was one of the best books I have read this year. Unfortunately, like many sequels, it didnt quite match its predecessor in terms of awesomeness.
Devi is back in Honors Knight. She has no memories of most of the events that occurred in the previous novel. She is still on the Glorious Fool, and for some reason whenever she looks at the horrible cook, she feels repulsed and physical nauseated. Yet when she is not looking at his face, she is oddly at peace with him. Will she be able to get her memories back in time to save the universe?
I was disappointed with the balance of action/romance/violence/mystery that this book had compared to the first one. And I got a bit annoyed with her constant thought ramblings I dont like Rupert, I like Rupert, I HATE Rupert, I LOVE Rupert. There was way too much thought dialogue about trivial things too. And the romance? Lame in comparison to the first one, I was waiting for something to happen. Although I did enjoy the fight scene! And thats all Im going to spoil about that particular scene! Lots of fun!
Honors Knight still possessed some excellent qualities. The violence and action was awesome. The action never stopped. Her suit was as cool as ever, and I enjoyed the addition of some new characters that were not in the first book. Also as far as storyline goes, it really did expand and answer some questions that were lingering at the completion of the first one.
The audio book was awesome like the first with the same narrator. I have looked to see if the third one is on audiobook. Unfortunately it doesnt seem to be, so I am going to have to read the third version with my eyes. This is disappointing because Emily Durante and I are in a narrator/listener groove now that I will miss. So thats a real bummer.
However, looking forward to reading the last instalment because I want to know what happens.
    Would I recommend it?
Yes, ONLY if you have read the first one. It wouldnt go well as a stand alone. There is SO MUCH backstory you need!
    Really good!
Great second installment but definitely can not be listened to on its own. The 3rd audiobook doesn't seem to be available though :'(
Awesome story, but narrator isn't working for me
As with the first book, I normally takes me 30min or so at high speed to begin to ignore this narrator. Some characters work while others totally pull me out of the story.
As for the book itself, it is a great read. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
    So disappointed
I loved the first book in this series, but this one does not compare.

    Publisher's Summary:
Something new is brewing in the 17th century! Fans of the 1632 series have often asked What's going on in North America? Herbert Sakalauks has set out to let you know in his short novel The Danish Scheme. Christian IV, King of Denmark, Sir Thomas Roe, the English Ambassador to Christian's court, and various elements of the extended Nasi/Abrabanel family have arranged an unusually well-funded and well led expedition to North America. In addition to a new version of this story, which had previously been published in the Grantville Gazette, Eric Flint has added a short story which provides a view of the same events from Magdeburg. What does the Stearns administration make of all this?

An Interesting Side Note to the Ring
Would you try another book from Herbert Sakalaucks and Eric Flint and/or Bill Brooks?
I'm a solid fan of the Ringsphere, yet this was just a side trip off of the circle that I could have easily lived without.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was okay, but not a surprise
Would you be willing to try another one of Bill Brookss performances?
Absolutely not. Mr. Brook's performance was dreadful...simply dreadful. As a speaking performance, I would have preferred to read the book rather than to listen to his performance.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Nope. The main portion of Ringsphere, of course, but not this stub off of the Ring.
    a disappointment
Would you try another book from Herbert Sakalaucks and Eric Flint and/or Bill Brooks?
Questionable on Sakalaucks. Definitely not for Brooks.
What was most disappointing about Herbert Sakalaucks and Eric Flint s story?
Seemed to be only half a book. Pieces are moved into place with a lot of wasted verbiage but the action implied by setting the board is missing. Perhaps the back half of the book will show up later.
What didnt you like about Bill Brookss performance?
It was worse than terrible. His attempts at Dutch, Danish, upper class & lower class English, Turkish Sephardic Jew, & WV American are just awful. His attempts at a French accent pass below even those marks and become comic book slapstick. He should be excused from reading any book other than ones requiring a midwest accent.
What character would you cut from The Danish Scheme?
All of the characters are overdrawn. Just removed anything that does not move the story along.
    Any additional comments?
Add the missing half and cut half the verbiage to get a reasonable addition to the series
No idea if this book is any good, narrator sucks.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Better accents, or even no accents. Also, fewer jarring narrator transitions.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
No idea. Not sure if I'm actually going to get to the end.

    Sets up the stories nicely
A good short story that sets the scene nicely for breakers (although through half of breakers they dont make an appearance so I hope we hear what happens to the characters at some point). It is a short story so you dont get the full picture, but if you liked Stephen Kings The Stand I would suggest you pick this up as well.
Mr. Chase does a great job with the narration.
    How it all began
Would you consider the audio edition of Outcome to be better than the print version?
Probably since I don't like to physically read. I am a good listener though.
What did you like best about this story?
It introduces the series since this is book 0.5. I read all but book 5 before listening to this book. (Book 4 has ties to this book.)
Have you listened to any of Ray Chases other performances before? How does this one compare?
Ray Chase is great. I need to check on other books he has narrated.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Enjoy life while you can. Without electricity, quality of life will degrade quickly.
    Any additional comments?
I love the series. I am glad I decided to read the series. As I start on the last book, I wish there was another book in the works.
listening to Ray Chase is barely ok
Is there anything you would change about this book?
listening to Ray Chase is like trying to watch your favorite action movie with a Kenny G sound track.

    Publisher's Summary:
Patricio Carrera has been waging what amounts to a private world war to bring to justice the murderers of his family; He's raised an army and air force and used them. He's raised a fleet and he's about to use that. He's suborned one republic and is about to undermine another. He's tracked his enemies across half a world, breaking, in the process, any notion of international law that stood in his way. Now he's deployed his legions to Pashtia, penultimate hideout of the Salafi Ikhwan who have made him what he has become. But with each step further from his home, revenge seems no closer. And with each step he leaves behind him a little of his dwindling humanity. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Yet the trail itself grows cold, as cold as the snow-capped, windswept mountains of Pashtia. Only Carrera's hate still burns hot, and that's a fire that is slowly consuming him.
    Members Reviews:
    Sometimes tedious
This story would have been great if it had been told by a better author. Kratman has his military members highly trained to follow orders, and then has them question known-competent leaders when they give them. He has the earth fleet chain of command so strict that inferiors lie down flat before their leaders, and then has THEM question orders. The rhetorical technique is not worth the price of inconsistency. He also embarks on tedious and unnecessary explanations, sometimes in the midst of an action sequence His little boy does not act like a little boy; even genius little boys act like little boys. He also imparts hypocracy (whether by his character or his own) to the main characters by having them make tough, often ruthless decisions and then beat their breasts over them, only to take similar actions again later (and then beat their breasts again). He posits, in a heavily Catholic society, that a Catholic) member of that society believes that morality derives from familial instinct. Given the paradigm, it is obvious from whence the character would believe it derives. His antagonists are too often utterly over the top evil, bad, despicable and rotten, perverted, treacherous, sadistic and dishonorable. Did I also mention Bad? You get my point. He also over-uses cliches.
The narrator mispronounces, mis-inflects, and misses stresses words and phrases that a child wouldn't. Is he so ignorant of history that he does not recognize the word (and clever reference by the author), Arbeit? He pronounces it, "Are-be-it," for crying out loud! The entire book was a sequence of things like that- frequent steps from one jarring gaff to the next.
On the positive side, I found the story compelling, even with the horrible narration. I'd wager that if the narrator had been even a little less ignorant millenial-esque, the shortcomings of the story itself would have faded into the background. Alas, the reading just emphasized and highlighted the mistakes. Unfortunately I think I might have already purchased the next book. I probably won't listen to it. I will read it though. I predict that the author will be improving with time. I imagine he has alreasy beaten himself over some of the obvious mistakes mentioned above.

"Robinson plants plenty of clues for the reader, scattering them skillfully amid exciting action and dialogue. The technical and social aspects of a centuries-long voyage are ingenious and clearly depicted." (Publishers Weekly)
"Robinson demonstrates his storytelling expertise in a gripping psychological sf drama that belongs in most libraries." (Library Journal)
"[T]he true strength of the novel lies in its focus on the human element. Amid all the trappings of large-scale sf, Sparrow's inner turmoil, along with the characters of the other crew members, is consistently presented with insight and compassion." (Kirkus Reviews)
    Members Reviews:
    Great story, very good performance
Exceeded my expectations. Nicely done narration with a good balance between character differentiation and annoying voices :).
The story itself is outstanding. Several innovative twists on the "generation ship" concept.
Compelling, but takes awhile to get going
Almost gave up on this one at first, mainly due to the narration which is extremely slow (run at 1.5x or even 2x).
The book is very character driven, and though it's a generation ship novel I wouldn't characterize it as 'hard' sci-if as much as I would say that it's not really about the science. The book runs with the concept of a generation ship, and sticks to it without really going into the technicalities of how it could work, instead using the confines of the ship to tell a sort of bottle episode.
I really came to enjoy the book about 1/3rd of the way through, and certainly from there till the end.
If you like generation ship novels, this one is certainly worth the read, and for anyone interested in post-humanism I think this provides an interesting take.
    great premis, poor delivery
I loved the sound of this book. the idea got my imagination going wild. sadly, this book has a very slow moving plot, led by an highly inactive protagonist who moans and feels a hard done by. The obvious questions are dragged out way too long, therefore making it feel very unrealistic. The characters don't have unique voices. Perhaps I feel this way since I finished The Stand by Steven King recently and it has exceptional character voice.

    Publisher's Summary:
Eric Flint and David Carrico serve up the latest entry in the best-selling alternate history saga of them all, the Ring of Fire!
It is the year 1636. The United States of Europe, the new nation formed by an alliance between the Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus and the West Virginians hurled back in time by a cosmic accident, is on the verge of civil war. His brain injured in the war with Poland, the USE's emperor Gustavus Adolphus is no longer in command. Enter Swedish chancellor Oxenstierna, a leader of aristocratic reaction against democracy. His goal: to assemble the forces of the hidebound ruling class in Berlin and drown the revolution in a bloodbath.
In Magdeburg, the capital of the USE, Mike Stearns' wife Rebecca Abrabanel is organizing popular resistance to Oxenstierna's plot. As part of the resistance, the American musician Marla Linder and her company of down-time musical partners are staging an opera that will celebrate the struggle against oppression. Princess Kristina, the heir to the USE's throne, is now residing in Magdeburg and is giving them her support and encouragement.
But another plot is underway - this one right in the heart of the capital itself, and with murder as its method. The only people standing in the way are a crippled boy and the boxing champion who befriended him, and an unlikely pair of policemen. Can the American detective Byron Chieske and his down-timer partner Gotthilf Hoch thwart the killers before they succeed in their goal?

    Useless Edition to the Series
Would you try another book from Eric Flint and David Carrico and/or George Guidall?
I don't know why this was even considered a relevant edition to the series. It had almost none of the past/future stress of 1st two books. Guidall does a great job as always, but I was frankly waiting for this to end.
Has 1636: The Devil's Opera turned you off from other books in this genre?
If the subsequent books are like this, I won't be listening anymore (I gave the 1st two books 5 stars).
    Which scene was your favorite?
I did like the description of the explosion.
    Excellent Story
I was pleasantly surprised by how well put together the story was. I loved all of the characters even the bad ones, who doesn't love to his son but with the bad guys! One of the better 1632 stories!
    Interesting, but slow
The book started off slow, then had some good sections. Too much time was spent on side plots that really had little to do with the main story line.

    Publisher's Summary:
By the author of breakout World War II era alternate histories Himmler's War and Rising Sun, a compelling alternate-history thriller. After winning World War I, Germany invades America in 1920, marching through California and Texas as a desperate nation resists.
Consider this other 1920: Imperial Germany has become the most powerful nation in the world. In 1914, she crushed England, France, and Russia in a war that was short but entirely devastating. By 1920, Kaiser Wilhelm II is looking for new lands to devour. The United States is fast becoming an economic super-power and the only nation that can conceivably threaten Germany. The U.S. is militarily inept, however, and is led by a sick and delusional president who wants to avoid war at any price. Thus, Germany is able to ship a huge army to Mexico to support a puppet government. Her real goal: the invasion and permanent conquest of California and Texas.
America desperately resists the mightiest and most brutal army in the world, in a battle fought on land, at sea, and in the air as enemy armies savagely march up on California and move north towards a second Battle of the Alamo. Only the indomitable spirit of freedom can answer the Kaiser's challenge.

Good story in a single shot.
Overall I really enjoyed this story. It was an interesting concept loosely grounded in historical facts and entertaining to listen to. These days, I appreciate authors that can wrap up the story in one book. Sometimes I don't want to start the investment in a long series of books that inevitably end on cliff hanger after cliff hanger. Some people might see the plot as "formulaic" but its that straight foreword manner that made it an enjoyable listen. I only have one criticism; the author had a bad habit of cramming every historical figure he possibly could into the story. I understand that famous figures in military history were young "up and comers" in 1920 and some would conceivably play a role in these events. My issue is the steady stream of notable people that made cameo appearances through out the book in miner or insignificant roles just to add them in. Its starts out as a fun novelty and then becomes a little burdensome as it happens more and more. Its totally worth a credit if you're looking for a fun, straight forward listen.
Not bad, but missed it's full potential.
What did you like best about 1920: America's Great War? What did you like least?
Best: the author handles geopolitics well and has a good sense of humor. I found myself laughing several times. He also paints a good battlefield picture, which not all alt-historians do, and has a good grasp of military hardware - especially naval.
Least: I think the story was a little aborted and could have greatly benefited from another book or two. I know other reviewers have appreciated the fact that the author is able to wrap up the plot in one book, but I feel that a few subplots are promised early on and never delivered. I also found it unlikely that the events of the book could be resolved as abruptly as they did.
My other big complaint is the handling of the characters. There's far too much name dropping regarding real historical people and it begins to break the suspension of disbelief. The other problem is that there are far too many POV characters for the length.

A Roll Of The Dice, A Shot In The Dark!
Once again, I take a shot in the dark, and this time, it's a win.
And for a fact, it's NOT because of Audible's description of the work. That description covers the first five minutes of the audiobook.
Think other dimensions, time dilation, neural AI mind entropy, rogue robots, nuclear fallout, new world order, suspended animation, and MUCH more.
Simpson delivers a well-written, smartly-paced and rich story, replete with rich character development, excitement, and tech-savvy future-tense believability. It beautifully sets the pace for the other novels in the series.
And, by the way, it just happens to be a great listen.
Lately, there's been a definite lack of truly noteworthy scifi/fantasy audiobooks offered here at Audible. I don't blame Audible for the lack of excellent work. There are great novels out there that are just beginning to be recorded to audiobook format, and it takes time.
So, this was a pleasant surprise, and I'm extremely glad I stumbled into it - So much so, that I'm securing the remaining novels in the series.
So, crack open that wallet, pull out that dusty credit, dear Audible listener, and put this enjoyable listen in your library.
    LUDDITE
CRAP YOUR PANTS IN 31 SECONDS
I was a little slow to get into this. Then I got into it big time and thought it was great. Then it turned into some type of super hero comic book. The intelligence and thought that went into creating the story got dropped by the way side. I got over half way through the book and called it quits.
What made things worse is I have a bad case of FOSB. Another reviewer came up with this term to describe the fear of Scott Brick. Ray Chase is not quite as bad as SB, but he is close. Everything he says should be written in capital letters. He screams most of the sentences. It is a good voice for announcing movies, but not reading a whole book. I think some narrators such as the two mentioned do not read the book ahead of time and feel that if they read every sentence dramatically it works, this way they can also read more books, since no prep time is necessary. They make more money or they are cheaper, I don't know which. Writers should take a bigger interest in production.
