Teen detective foils assassination attempt.

This is your typical series book for boys, very comparable to the Hardy Boys, just as good, not better. Of course Ellery Queen was one of the great murder mystery series of the twentieth century, the American Sherlock Holmes, and the author a fictional composite of two real authors.

The plot concerns an assassination attempt (on a foreign dignitary visiting Manhattan), and the assassins plan to shoot the passenger of a convertible in a motorcade, with a rifle from a building along the route. Meanwhile young Ellery Queen Jr. races against the clock to learn their plans, who's behind it, and save the victim. So the story is very suspenseful, the writing style adequate for mystery and suspense, but appropriate for juvenile readers, not too violent or scary.

Typical juvenile novel - but with echoes of Kennedy assassination - a year before!

This is your typical series book for boys, very comparable to the Hardy Boys, just as good, not better. What interested me the most is that the plot concerns an assassination attempt (on a foreign dignitary visiting Manhattan), and as I read the details it constantly evoked memories of the Kennedy assassination, with haunting similarities, like the authors description of a convertible in a motorcade, and the assassins plan to shoot the passenger with a rifle from a building along the route. This coincidence kept me interested and made the book seem more worth reading. Since this was written in 1962, one year before the president's tragic end, one can't help wonder if Lee Harvey Oswald might have read this book.

Fun Read

I did not realize that this book was about Teens. High School girls but I must say I really enjoyed it. I have made a note to recommend in a few year to our "Tween" granddaughter! I personally enjoyed it so much that I have now read Finding the Forger, another good one.

A lively book!

I picked up this book never thinking that I would enjoy a young people's novel as much as I enjoy adult fiction. Much to my surprise, I found Uncovering Sadie's Secrets kept me turning pages faster than most of the other (adult) books I've read in the past few months! It is a sheer delight!

Great mystery, breezy prose, and a wonderful, true-to-life cast of characters. In her heroine Bianca, Libby Sternberg has created a quick-witted teen whose foibles and spunk are entirely engaging, and whose fears and irritations resound with reality. Yet, Bianca never descends into smart-mouthed behavior or displays disrespect for her family, her friends, or herself.

A wonderful read (and appropriate) for all ages!

Uncovering Sadie's Secrets is a WINNER!

I enjoy mysteries and love to give books as gifts. When this book by a local author was recommended, I thought of my 18 year old granddaughter. I read it first to see if it was age appropriate (not too young!) and found myself pulled right in! I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Sternberg's writing style and knew that teenagers especially, would "tune right in" to her contemporary expressions and identify with Bianca's thoughts and situations. It was a quick read for me as I was really intrigued as to what Sadie's secret was! None of my guesses were correct and so I was VERY surprised at the ending. This book is a winner and I look forward to reading more Bianca Balducci Mysteries as I have Harry Potter!

A Mom's Point of View

As the mother of a 5th grade daughter, I am very interested in what she is reading. On the recommendation of a friend, we got the book Uncovering Sadie's Secrets. My daughter read it, and recommended that I read it. She loved it, and so did I! I was so pleased to find a young adult book with no sex, violence, drugs, or bad language. Yet, the plot was believable, exciting, and had enough twists to hold you until the very last page. My daughter and I are looking forward to many more Bianca Balducci mysteries! We highly recommend this book, and have purchased several as gifts for friends.

I love this book!

Great book

I finished this book in a couple hours. It was very entertaining and I'm ecstatic that I finally found a Christian author besides Ted Dekker that can actually write well.

Hard to put down.

A strange tale,a strange story lol

I have to admit this book was nothing that I expected. However having said that I do think it was very creative and imaginative. I have never read a Christian author who wasn't afraid to write sci-fi on this level talking about underworld and things but still having faith being the foundation. I would definitely recommend it to pre-order readers

CAPTIVATING STORY!

Glenn's story about the heartbreaking childhood of Shelby is riveting. You follow along as Shelby runs for her life, all the while experiencing terrifying nightmares, brought on by her past. The story needs another round of editing, but it does not interfere with the captivating story.

Glenn did an excellent job of showing you the fear and pain this little girl goes through. As stated, heartbreaking, but with the help of her guardian angel, she just might make it home. Looking forward to more writing by this author.

Make some time for this book.

I am the type of reader who judges a book by how much I get lost in the story. This book pulled me in and wouldn't let me go even when I was done. I am glad there is a sequel because I need more of these characters! The ending was a little rushed for me but over all an engaging and heart felt book that just makes you want to go hug your whole family!

Heart wrenching

Shelby was a heart wrenching read. The abuse of children is staggering in modern day society. But some abused children, like Shelby, find a strength within guiding them through and allowing truth to be revealed.

Must read book!!!!

This was an amazing story. The twists, turns, and adventures made this book a great read. It is fun, emotional, and thrilling to read. Author Lisa Glenn did a great job and I look forward to the next book.

Paranormal Nancy Drew

Ever wondered what it would be like in the After-life ? Would you like to be a Guardian Angel?

The past year for Jenna has been anything but boring and mundane with so much a' happening from her brother Casey's death, her own poisoning and her mum is spaced out half the time and her Dad now off with a new life in Texas. A Fun and Solid Second Book in a Fantastic YA Paranormal Series!

'The A-Word' is the second installment in a young adult paranormal series that follows leading lady Jenna Samuels along with her brother, Casey, who is now an angel (a-word) as they try to go back to their normal lives after the catastrophe that happened last year - when Jenna almost died and Casey died to protect her and then came back as her guardian angel. Things are hard enough with high school, boys, friends, and the other things Jenna can't talk to anyone about except Casey - then enter the mysterious Bo Shivers. He's the boss of Casey's A-word boss, Amber. They didn't even know he existed until he appeared out of nowhere - a bit rough around the edges and with tidings of bad things to come.

I found this to be a fun and solid second book in a series that combines humor and paranormal elements to form an original creation.

A Fun Halloween Adventure for young and old

What made the experience of listening to The House on Creep Street the most enjoyable?

It brought back old memories of my days as a child on Halloween. Great fun! They really captured the experience. Also, it's written at the adult level with solid characters, and believable dialog. I thought it was completely appropriate for an adult as well as children.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The House on Creep Street?

I think the action scene at the end. I was surprised how scared I was for the main characters.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the kids first walk into the house. Seriously creepy!

A Fantastic, Middle Grade Read!

What did you love best about The House on Creep Street?

I loved every single thing about this book.

Pacing, characterization, etc. It's like a toned-down Goosebumps book!

I have never listened to any of Steve Gray's other performances but he was fantastic!

There are so many things that this book did right. Let me try and touch on a few by name

Horrific Nods

One of my favorite things about this book is its subtle and awesome reference to horror things. For example, the boys go to Mary Shelley Middle School. Or a street nearby is Bradburywhich I can only assume is a reference to Ray Bradbury, one of my favorite writers of all time. So, gold star to the Blood Brothers for starting kids off right. Hehe.

Characterization

Secondly, I applaud the characterization in the story. At first we meet these three friends, Barry, Joey, and Kevin. Theyre all different, with different appearances and characterization. And theyre all battling their own issues. Barry is heavier than most kids his age, hes self-conscious about it, thrives off of being a peacekeeper of the group, but when faced with a choice, hell probably side with Kevin (the cool one). Kevin is the piece of the threesome whos discovering girls and that hes kind of the cool one of the group. Hes always wearing his lucky blue cap. Joey, of course, is my favorite. Hes a true-blue purveyor of Halloween.

Deliciously creepy!

I am absolutely loving this series. I am sad to admit that I did not come back to read this until I found out about it AFTER I read the last book. Of course! Even reading this late I have been able to fill in some holes that I had, and answer some questions. Nothing vital but there were some curiosities, like how Mary and Lacey met. I was extremely curious about the fire that Mary is in and of course how she comes about to get her "gift".

If you've read the stories this is a great filler and brings you more of Mary and the other fantastic characters. Being able to read about them again was great. But especially Mary. There's just something about Mary (ha) that I really enjoy reading about. And Sarah Dalton has a great way of mixing the creepy with slowly building intensity. This is probably the creepiest book that I've read in a while and since I LOVE horror that is saying something! But if you do not love horror, do not let that push you away. This IS creepy but it's not bloody and definitely doesn't have the characteristics of the horrors of today.

Mary really grew with this one and her character makes even more sense! I enjoyed this so much I am now tempted to go back and re-read everything!

There were only a few characters that I did not fully connect with (hence the 4.5 instead of a full 5) but I completely recommend this series. It's deliciously creepy!

The Old Lady

This is not the usual type of story I would pick. That said, this story is amazingly readable it grabbed me by the shirt-lived and wouldn't let go. It's not a long book I suppose that's what a kindle single is, I don't know for sure. Took my mind to places I hadn't been to before and I really liked that. And from now on I will pay attention to my intuition oh yes I will, you will too.

Intriguing and suspenseful

I chose to read My Daylight Monsters by Sarah Dalton on a whim. I am an avid reader of romance novels and needed a break....I am so glad I chose this book. I found it to be intriguing and suspenseful.
