An excellent story, well-narrated

An excellent Rizzoli & Isles book that combines an excellent murder-mystery story with themes on sex trafficking, beautifully brought together in a blend that highlights the issues without preaching. Great writing with lively characters that bring the action to life. An excellent story, well-narrated in the audiobook, that I highly recommend for murder-mystery and crime lovers, and of course all R&I fans!

Its a good story. very sad and terrible sad, but it had a good ending

Lots of Silly Humor, Not Much Plot

I have to admit I have never liked characters who think saying smart alecky things passes for humor or wit. Like Stephanie Plum. So this was an uneasy fit for me.

Unbelievable characters, no plot to speak of. I'm sure that many may enjoy this book. It just wasn't for me.

Narrator had one irritating voice but the rest of the narration was fine.

Nice story, poor narration

The choppy narration really takes away from the storyline. The male "voice" becomes particularly irritating after a long listening session.

3rd Grade Reading Class

If you are over the age of 10 and have ever listened to or read any decent mystery, you will probably hate this book. The narration was one of the worst, no THE worst I have ever listened to. I really felt like I was in 3rd grade phonics class.

What didn't? Immature, shallow, strident, screechy lead character with anger management issues and no redeeming qualities. Her best friend has a tiff with the future mother-in-law, so the girls (not women, these are middle-schoolers) vandalize the car with shaving cream, rotten eggs, etc. Then there's the fixation on male body parts and sex. The two lead men are hunky, of course. They have no personalities. They are just meat. This had Stephanie Plum potential, but it misses by a mile.

Irritating high-pitched voice often wandered into nails-on-blackboard territory. Perfect match for the character, so perhaps it was intentional.

Formulaic with flat characters. There were obvious futile attempts at humor. The best joke in the book was unintentional; the lead character described "gossiping about politics..." I would be stunned if any character in the book could identify a single elected official. I don't set the bar high for these types of books. They do not aspire to be much more than a quick, escapist read while waiting at the doctor's office or the airport. Believe me, I did not expect great literature, but I did expect the story to be fun. This was just annoying and a waste of my time.

Would you try another book from Amanda M. Lee and/or Angel Clark?

Actually the writing was not bad - especially for a new writer. The problem was the character - she had absolutely no redeeming qualities and I am not interested in learning what happens to her.

Better Run Through the Jungle

What's worse than trudging through a jungle? How 'bout trudging uphill through a jungle? Set in the Peruvian rainforest nestled along the mountains, a dead body is discovered and prompts and expedition to find out who--or what--killed him, and where he found that snazzy gold artifact tucked in his bag.

After a wealthy industrialist learns his galavanting son has died under mysterious circumstances in South America, he leads a recon team of scientists and mercenaries into the jungle for answers, guided by the bush pilot that found his son's corpse and the golden crown in his possession. Suspicion on all sides over who knows how much weighs heavy as they venture into the wild, but their own little quabbles are quickly outweighed as it becomes all too apparent that there is a tribe in the jungle, one that has until now gone undiscovered, and the team finds themselves in a race for answers as well for their lives.

If you like those globe-trotting thrillers and encounters with the unknown, you're likely to really get a kick out of this book. What could just be a paint-by-numbers horror/thriller fare is quite capably handled by McBride, who turns this into something just a little bit more riveting than what you might find late at night on SyFy. The characters are fleshed out much more than the run-of-the-mill stories you might be used to, and while the broad premise of the book doesn't feel all that original, its execution helps it stand out from the pack.

The ending isn't quite so revelatory, but a minor complaint for an audiobook helmed by Gary Tiedemann who does a great job in keeping the tone and pace of the story just right, and the characters engaging the whole way through.

If you're a fan of those Preston/Child novels, I'd wager you would be a fan of this one.

Those Dirty Birds...

Reminiscent of early Preston/Child non-Pendergast fare, this story should satisfy any need you might have for a good jungle expedition story. Theres nothing particularly new here but it entertains.

An edge of your seat read!

I didn't want to stop listening, I had to know what was going to happen!

Really Enjoyed

You need to be prepared to have the time to listen to this book because if you don't, you can miss important details. There are extensive details throughout the book and it's obvious that author did a lot of research into the history of the area, and just in general. The story is really well written and has a action/adventure theme, along with some of the theory behind bird evolution, almost like what was said in the movie Jurassic Park.

Engaging

Scott Bricks narration sets an eerie tone in this mystery thriller about a man, Jacob Underwood, who lives in a near-future dystopian world in which he makes a living as an assassin. After experiencing a near life ending motorcycle accident Underwood believes he is one of the living dead making him a cold, emotionless, systematic killer with only a spark, of humanity left in him. This detached life style, however, soon becomes tested when he is given the most challenging assignments of his career.

The mysterious writer, who goes by the pseudonym, John Twelve Hawks and is the author of The Fourth Realm, seems to intertwine his own personal mistrust of governments and corporations into his writing but the end result is a rich and engaging story.

Oddly entertaining thriller

What about Scott Bricks performance did you like?

This was kind of a bizarre book and if it weren't for Scott Brick's narration I probably wouldn't have stuck with it.

This book starts out really good but then takes a turn to the bizarre and does drag a bit about 1/2 way through. Stick with it though, it really picks up momentum in the second half and everything starts to make sense. The reason for the protagonist's disorder and why and how he became who he was, betrayal by the most unexpected and how Jake deals with them. But the ending makes this sad story so worth it and ends on a really great cliffhanger with unfinished relationships and personal revelations that makes me believe there will be a sequel. If you're looking for something a little different then this is it!

My spark and container enjoyed this book!

A stronger entry in Charles Paris series

If you could sum up Charles Paris in three words, what would they be?

Irresponsible. Actor. Sleuth.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot is enjoyable but this is a cosy mystery so there isn't much tension here. I really enjoyed spending time with our sleuth, Charles, and hearing him interact with this cast of characters.

Which character as performed by the narrators was your favorite?

Obviously Charles Paris as performed by Bill Night is the main draw here but my favorite character is his longsuffering, semi-detached wife Frances. This story gives them some fun interactions.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The light and comical elements in this story work well, in large part thanks to the performances of the cast.

Any additional comments?

As with all of these adaptations, there are some changes made to bring the stories into the modern age and a general softening of Charles' character. Compared to the other adaptations however this felt pretty close to the original novel in tone and plot.

This is a good thing as the original novel was one of the stronger entries in the series. This story pushes Charles into a world that is less familiar to him and has great fun mocking corporate culture. The mystery is entertaining and it manages to lay enough hints that the ending makes sense without being obvious from the start.

I would suggest though to start with an earlier release before tackling this. While you will be able to follow the plot thanks to plenty of introductions and recaps, the character relationships are more rewarding when you have spent more time with them.

another winner!

Charles is hopelessly flawed, a border-line alcoholic, and catty, at times, all of which makes him a fun character to get to know better. i have bought all of the audio books and have not been disappointed.

A gentle comedic murder mystery

This was a well-made, full cast, radio production of a gentle comedic murder mystery. The script and plot were well crafted, within its genre, and the cast were good. If I had listened to it on the radio while driving, or gardening, or just doing some other activity then I think I would have enjoyed it more.

Entertaining Christian mystery

The one thing that kept popping into my mind as I read this novel is how much it reminded my of "Father Dowling Mysteries" (with Tom Bosley in the late 80's/early 90's). Only the setting is a little different (rural town vs. big city). The book does a good job of interspersing everyday activities of church business with the events to keep the mystery flowing - while some of the everyday stuff was barely tied into the main storyline most of it had good reason to be in the story. Overall if you like cozy mysteries with a Christian flair then you will enjoy this book. The narration is very good, though I wish the narrator had a better studio to work with (you'll hear the flutter of pages occasionally) - that was the only thing keeping me from giving him 5 stars.

A Not So Cozy Mystery

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I had read Jim Callans Cleansed by Fire and was thoroughly entertained by a delightful tale of a small town priest who is horrified and angered by the fact that someone is torching the churches. I would heartily recommend the novel to everyone who loves a good mystery.

What did you like best about this story?

The story explores the psyche of a small town on the edge of panic. Father Frank is appalled. The police are mystified. A small town is living in fear. The distant sound of a siren is enough to make their blood boil and leave everyones nerves frayed. No one sleeps much anymore.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Father Frank seeks to bring solace to a towns undying fear, he, too, is faced with danger as his own investigations bring him closer to the truth. He may not be able to save another church from burning. And he wonders if he will even be able to save his own life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Cleansed by Fire is an enjoyable and satisfying read, and there are a few good chuckles woven into the dialogue. I felt as if I was standing around and eavesdropping on the conversations. The characters are real, and they can sometimes make you laugh and sometimes frighten you.

I had previously read the novel, but it wasn't until I listened Jonathan Mumms narration of Cleansed by Fire that I fully grasped the depth of the novel. His voice added drama.

The Swan & the Jackal was brilliantly paced with twists and turns that shocked me, ripped my heart out and made my jaw drop. The last 40% of my listening experience took place into the wee hours of the morning because there was no way I was stopping. Fredricks story is far from over and maybe I am sick, but I cannot wait for more.

Fans of dark, gritty, complicated romances wrapped in the world of assassins for hire will find The Swan & the Jackal to be a brilliant addition to the In the Company of Killers series. Redmerski has this incredible gift for bringing these dark, damaged characters to life and weaving them around your heart.

WILL FREDRIK CHOOSE CASSIA OR SERAPHINA?

Not a lot I can say without giving anything away.

It doesn't have as much action, suspense and thrills as the first two books but this book focuses on the relationships between Fredrik, Cassia and Seraphina; and Fredrik and Izabel. There are several twist, turns, surprises and why didn't I see that coming.

I enjoyed this book because I'm intrigued with Fredrik and wanted to know more about his past, his demons, what makes him tick.

The pace moved well without a lot of internal dialogue which also kept me interested.

The performers were just a perfect as books 1 and 2.

Top Thriller

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I rarely give 5 stars which I save for the very, very best. This did not quite deserve 5 stars but was better than my normal 4 star reads; wish you had star ratings Audible. Yes, I would definitely recommend this book to a friend who enjoyed a good thriller. It was an all rounder; a well fleshed out book and the ending was perfect.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, the plot did keep me 'on the edge of my seat' so to speak. James, cleverly built up the suspense from one chapter to the next, but interspersed each heart thumping moment with a bit of softness and love to do with our policeman's personal life which was a wonderful contrast to the crazy protagonist who stalked nearly every page.

Which character as performed by Daniel Weyman was your favorite?

Pretty well all of them, but he did Detective Inspector Grace pretty well, and also his yankee accent wasn't too bad with the Bryce character either.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Don't date on line and die......

Well written tight plot, terrifically narrated by Daniel Wyman. Character development was excellent, this book contained all the necessary elements of a good and very satisfying thriller suspense novel. Absolutely recommend!

Tedious story. Bland performance.

Oh my... Let me start by saying 'Less would have been ALOT more'. Remove 3 hours of unnecessary 'stuff"...very tedious police procedure, violence in needless detail, dialog so mundane it had me reaching for fast forward - Enliven the main character (who was entirely devoid of personality) - Ditch the awful American accent, and the book might have been passable.

This was just a boring, slightly skanky, book.

I would recommend that a friend NOT read this book. There is so much FILLER, so little plot. The villain endlessly reads and re-reads his old texts to the woman who rejected him ...I started skipping ahead.

Another Great Thriller with Kate Jones

What made the experience of listening to Cruising for Death the most enjoyable?

I really liked the reader, she captured the wry humor and down to earth nature of Kate, the heroine. I enjoyed the setting, on a cruise ship and Caribbean island. The synergy between Kate and Cole moved things along.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kate, of course. She is bold, courageous, resourceful, but also human.

What about Melissa Morans performance did you like?

She is a very lively reader who really gets her characters right. She obviously appreciates the humor in the book. She does a good job with male and female characters alike.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A pleasure cruise turns into a nightmare.

Action adventure

Fun book. Kind of like Clive Cusler's stuff with a little Indiana Jones thrown in. I liked Kate. She's tough and has a good sense of humor. I will look for more in this series.

I have read several other books in this series and loved each and every one of them. This book did not fail to impress me, I enjoyed it very much. The writing was excellent as allways and I am definitely a fan of the narration...""This story is so fast paced that I was afraid to put it down for fear it would rush on without me!" Melissa Moran does a great job of narration on the audiobook, giving each of the individuals a unique voice. Her voice is easy to listen to and makes the listening experience a pleasant one.

Finally a longer book!!!

Wow, what a great read!! This book gives you so much more than the others in the series. A simple cruise takes a serious turn for the worse. Boy does that girl find trouble.

Kate and Cole are still together, and seem to be solid. I was really happy with that part of the story.

Action Packed

This is the fourth book in the Jet Series about a young woman code named Jet, a former Mossad operative. At the end of the last book, we had Hannah in the care of a nanny in Uruguay. Alan, the brother of Jets husband is on the way to Uruguay. He is also a Mossad operative. Jet is fly to Uruguay after killing a Russian mobster that was trying to kill her and Hannah.

This book opens with Alan flying into Buenos Aires, Argentina and rushing to catch the ferry he had reserved a seat on when a bomb blows it up; he is the only survivor. He finds his way to Montevideo and finds Hannah and Jet under surveillance and no longer safe. Someone is out to kill them. The action is nonstop and the suspense builds throughout the story. This is about the same theme as the prior book and the action continues. I hope the next book has a different story line. Blake is an excellent writer and I found my attention never wavered from the story.

Braden Wright does a good job narrating the book. Wright is an actor, voice-over artist and audiobook narrator.

The JET series is addictive!

I'm listening t the series in order beginning with the prequel. All five novels so far have been exceptionally good espionage thrillers. JET is an ex-Mossad female operative who now wants to fade into the background and raise her toddler daughter in peace. Her past keeps coming back to haunt her as her enemies seek to kill her and her daughter. Actor Braden Wright does a great job of narration. I highly recommend this entire series.

Kept me enthralled from beginning to end!! action drama and suspense all rolled in one

one too many

The first book was fun. The second book was similarly fun. The third book began to stray into romance novel territory. This one has officially jumped the shark, and I won't read any more. It was entertaining enough, had some good action sequences, the usual fascination with weapons and tactics . . . but the plot was strictly romance novel fluff and coincidence and soap-opera dialogue . . . and the reader. Oh, the reader. He's the second reader this year who doesn't know how to read dialogue, doesn't understand interjections of 'she said' as part of the flow of the sentence, instead reading them as separate bits of dialogue. Oy vey. And the voices . . . sure, readers of Jet novels need to be able to do men''s voices and women's voices, and he give it a good effort, but flails, especially for the Latina. Too much: no more.
