    Publisher's Summary:
John Milton is trying to make amends for a career spent killing for the British Secret Service. He has a burning need to right wrongs - and rewrite his own bloody past. He finds himself in Louisiana, the Big Sleazy, the bayou, and the post-Katrina wreckage of the Gulf Coast with a debt of honor to repay.
Isadora Bartholomew, who saved his partner's life, needs his help. Joel Babineaux, a ruthless property magnate, is out to sink the charity she established to help rebuild the Lower Ninth Ward.
Just when Milton thinks he has neutralised Babineaux's scheming, a dangerous man from his past takes an unhealthy interest in his present. Claude Boon used to work for the Mossad and might be more than Milton can handle. And then the stakes get even higher....
Salvation Row is the most explosive thriller yet in Mark Dawson's best-selling John Milton series. It's a book no self-respecting suspense fan will want to be without.

Mark Dawson is my best new author find of 2015
The John Milton series consists of 2 novellas and 6 novels. Every on of the 8 books deserves a five star rating. John Milton is a British espionage agent who is trying to leave the agency after years against the wishes of the agency. I wish that Mark Dawson would write more John Milton novels, but that seems unlikely.
    Dawson is a wonderful author.
    Louisiana Hot
This book was very good. I would recommend to followers of the John Milton series or those who enjoy David Thorpe or Mark Dawson. Unfortunately, you have to follow the entire John Milton series to gain an appreciation for this book, as you will better understand the character (Milton) that way, inclusive of the history that he references. This book was strong, but it's the introduction of an amazing character named Avi Bachman that really sends this story into overdrive. Avi is awesome!
    Another hit
Dawson has hit his stride. Nothing stops the adrenaline. Fast action, justice prevails, character continues to grow. What more can you ask? Even the reader had better American accents this time out,( pretty bad in earlier reads),
Intend to read his two other series. All six of these were really enjoyable for action, survival readers. I will say the fifth, Sword of God, was the best to me.
Em Foss is on wrong sa lob bol
For American listeners it is painful hearing a Brit's pronunciation of lots of words. Other than that I love the series.
    Good story but. ........
Good story but the lead female is rather annoying the way she argues about everything that's Milton is doing to help her just so annoying & frustrating. I found myself saying 'oh for god's sake just shut up and just do it'. The narrators American accents especially the female ones again rather disturbing. Lots of room for improvement.

A man called Milton walks into town....
On the run from his own demons, John Milton treks through the Michigan wilderness into the town of Truth. He's not looking for trouble, but trouble's looking for him. He finds himself up against a small-town cop who has no idea with whom he is dealing and no idea how dangerous he is.
But Milton is double crossed and badly injured. Unarmed and alone, he flees into the remote Porcupine Mountains with a posse on his tail. His enemies thought they could hunt him down. That was a mistake, and, where Milton is concerned, one mistake is all you get.
From best-selling author Mark Dawson (the John Milton and Beatrix Rose series), The Sword of God is the fifth in the acclaimed series of thrillers that listeners love. Mark Dawson has worked as a lawyer and currently works in the London film industry. His first books, The Art of Falling Apart and Subpoena Colada have been published in multiple languages.

Not as exciting as the first 4 John Milton books.
I am a huge fan of Mark Dawson's books, both the John Milton Series and the Beatrix Rose series. Sword of God is quite good, but not as good as the four prior books in the John Milton series or any of the books in the Beatrix Rose series.
UGH - Dawson's Writing Boring Polemics.
March of the monotonous! 3 STARS!!?? Why?
This Brit author knows how to spot the world's real terrorists. You thought maybe in the midst of AL-Qeada, ISIS, or perhaps, Taliban? Uh, nope. So how about Boko Haram, Al Shabab, or the North Korean Government? Again... nope, nope and nope. Dawson's 'hero' John Milton can spot them if they work for small American town sheriffs and quote the Old Testament. In fact, the slightest whiff of Republican scent's enough to tighten Milton's trigger finger.
Yep, Dawson knows that fat, stupid, and stereotypically evil white supremacists fill squad cars and offices in every rural US community. all tensed to wield their 'Sword of God'. You're safer to sleep unarmed in the Congo bush, the streets of Mosul, or San Pedro Sula, Honduras than to bristle with weapons into any South-Western U.S. town with a population less than say, 10,000.
Advice: There's no need to even hear the noisy first chapter of 'Sword of God' if you've listened to the last chapter of "Saint Death" or the first chapter of "The Driver". Absent minor differences, 'Sword of Death' simply (and I mean SIMPLY) reprises each of them.
And absent the existential threat of "The Group" dangling over Miltion's head like another legendary sword... Well this entire book's like a bottle of seltzer whose lid's been popped for a couple of months.
And then there's David Thorpe's increasingly BAD American accents.
It's one thing for Dawson-through-Thorpe's lips to endlessly bash Britain, after all his dialect allows some cred. But I'd rather get my American bashing from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, the NYT or the Washington Post. NPR may be passing the same anti Western-Civ gas as the BBC, but it gets its mouth-music right - y'know?
Perhaps in future books Mr. Dawson will leave my USA to find some other culture to despise. After listening to five of his John Milton polemics... I'll probably never know. Goodby John Milton and God speed. Ooops...

    Just can't listen to this
I don't mean to be rude, but the narration is horrible. The story might be interesting but I finally just stopped and removed this from my device. Not worth the frustration listening was causing.
    Voice choice
I could not listen to this book, I can't stand the narrator's voice or the way he enunciates his words.
    Performance and story horrible!
The man performing the characters in this book read like he had phlegm in the back of his throat the entire time! His character voices were laughable! I will never again listen to a book performed my him- not to mention the story was just as bad! Do not pass go! Turn back while you still have a chance! I want my money back!
    Narration
Worst narrator ever. Mispronounced words. Story full of gratuitous sexual 'tension' distracting from what might have been a plot.
6 hours of my life I can't get back
I hated the story. I hated the narration. I kept listening, hoping it would get better. It didn't.

I am now addicted to this series!
Deep in Death is Volume 6 in the terrific Shelby Nichols Adventures series which is likely best known for its balance of suspense and humor; this one contains humor but intense suspense drives this novel. Shelby is almost recovered from her gunshot injury to her arm and is ready to take on clients again. Her first case is a young woman about to be married who wants to find out what happened to her mother who disappeared several years ago. Of course her mobster friend "Uncle" Joey also has some work for her so her dear friend Ramos, Uncle Joey's enforcer and hit man, is also involved. Like in the prior novel in the series Shelby's husband Chris also plays a major role. Shelby uncovers a serial murder when looking for the young woman's mother.
The Shelby Nichols Adventures in the most enjoyable series I have ever listened to. Narration is also terrific. (This is the 2000th audio book I have rated at Audible.)
Humorous Paranormal Mystery You Won't Want to Miss
    Any additional comments?
After getting shot in her last adventure, Shelby Nichols wants to stay out of trouble, at least for a while. Things, however, never go as planned. Taking on a new case, Shelby is looking in to the disappearance of her clients mother, Darcy Shaw. In order to figure out what happened to her, Shelby looks into the mothers old acquaintances. Digging up old relationships, however, uncovers a serial killer. Fitting the killers perfect victim, he plans to make Shelby his next target. When Joey the Knife Manetto, aka Uncle Joey, and her friend, Ramos are caught in a yacht explosion, Shelby may find herself on her own with this case. Determined to figure out what happened to Joey and Ramos, and to get away from the killer, Shelby heads to their last known location, Seattle. Can Shelby solve both cases and come out alive?
Narrator, Wendy Tremont King is a great complement to Colleen Helmes book. Her unique voices bring to life Colleens well developed character and Shelbys world. The character dynamics are spot on and make for an enjoyable, humorous read. The plot is complex, engaging, and keeps the reader guessing whats going to happen next. The author expertly switches between internal and external dialogue and King smoothly handles them without missing a beat. Readers who have read the other books in the Shelby Nichols adventures wont be disappointed.

John Milton has started to hope that he might have a future.
He has a job driving a taxi around the streets of San Francisco. He has his anonymity and his solitude. Being invisible has become a comfortable habit. He doesn't want to be found.
But when a girl he drives to a party goes missing, Milton is worried. Especially when two dead bodies are discovered, and the police start treating him as their prime suspect. Milton is a fugitive from the British Secret Service, and a man in his position needs extra attention like he needs a hole in the head.
As unpleasant secrets leak out, and the body count rises, one thing is for sure. Milton might just be the right guy in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The Driver is a taut, nail-biting adventure which once again stars Mark Dawson's irresistible hero, the maverick ex-MI6 assassin John Milton. Mark Dawson has worked as a DJ and lawyer and currently works in the London film industry. His first books, The Art of Falling Apart and Subpoena Colada have been published in multiple languages.

    Another good listen
John Milton is Jack Reacher, John Wells, and The Grey Man all rolled into one. David Thorpe also does a great job. He is slowly becoming one of favorite narrators.
You can drive me, John Milton!
John Milton is likable. He is an ex-SAS assassin who got tired of the blood and decided to go straight and only help people out. His home office doesn't want him out there with all his knowledge of procedure and missions and personnel, so they keep sending assassins to kill him, or bring him in. Thus he must be on the run constantly. Milton is also a recovering alcoholic who attends AA meetings but doesn't believe he can ever atone for his sins. In every town he lands in he ends up finding trouble and causing nearly as much as he smooths. In this book, he is looking for a missing hooker he taxied to a "party", and trying to find out who killed the other working girls.
At least in this story, none of his new, short-term friends get offed while John is trying to atone. It is interesting all the way through, and we live for the spec ops skills John brings into play. His newest sometime partner, bounty hunter Bo (or Beau, I don't know) reappears to our delight, even though he can not take the place of the lamented Rutherford from book 1.
The narration constantly amazes me. Thorpe's default voice seems to be that of a slightly nerdy, prissy English prig, but he did the English thugs and druggies superbly in book 1, Mexican drug lords in book 2, and now he does Americans of all accents and social levels. He seems to change height and weight as his voices change.
If you like the genre and the premise, this is a good series.
loved this book, was a great read.
If you like Jack Reacher you will love Milton. Action packed with great detail and we'll developed characters.
Good, but not remotely as good as the first two books.
Good, but not as good as the first two books. I would still recommend it, because it continues the wonderful story of John Milton. And David Thorpe remains a genius with his interpretations of the characters. The problem I had with this book was the story/plot. It was seriously lacking compared to the magnificence of the previous stories. Also, the first half of the story dragged on without a sense of building anticipation.

    A Fun Listening Experience
I enjoy listening to audio-books by Norwegian, Jorn Lier Horst. My first book by Horst was "Dregs" which I thought was a very good debut. This second book is just as enjoyable, with some reservations. You can listen to these books in any order even though there is a recurring character, Inspector Wisting. I have researched Horst and discovered that he was previously a senior investigating officer in Norway. That makes sense because his stories appear to have lots of police procedural knowledge. I appreciate the numerous details about life in Norway. I see a great career for Horst and will use a credit for the next book. The narrator did a good job.
My reservations include the realization that sometimes the police are slow at solving obvious situations (it involves birds), there are quite a few coincidences, and the Norwegian names and places require that I concentrate or listen to some sections twice.
I ended up walking 2 extra miles today so that I could get to the end of the story. It was well worth it as there was a fun twist I wasn't expecting.
    Good solid story.
Not as dramatic as Jo Nesbo nor as funny as jussi Adler Olsen but still a good solid believable detective story.
rich and suspensef plot, interesting social issues
I highly recommend this audiobook; it is different than Horst's "The Hunting Dogs" and I found it even more enjoyable. The book jumps into right into the story; creating a palpable mood, setting and suspenseful start. I found the plot to be very creative, complex (clever) and believable (well thought-out). The level of suspense was dynamic: peaking, then ebbing, then peaking again; when the suspense was lower the compelling plot kept me listening keenly. The loose ends come together at a pace that allows one to relish the ending. The detective's internal thoughts on the investigative process, interviewing/interrogation, etc., are interesting and perceptive, to the extent that I can tell. I was not expecting the social issues that arose in a bit of a sub-plot, but I found them very much food-for-thought.
As background, I discovered Horst recently due to a sale or Audible recommendation. I listened to "The Hunting Dogs" first; I enjoyed it, but not as much as this one. It could be that I was just adjusting to the narrator and writing style; a bit more concentration is required to keep track of the Norwegian place names and Scandinavian names of people---especially when only listening (not seeing) them. However, I find that Horst is very much worth this small increase in effort.
This could be the worst book I have ever listened to..
As anyone who has read my reviews knows well, I have often complained that poor narration can kill a great book, (eg: The Tourist).

From Amazon number-one best-selling author Mark Dawson, this novella is an introduction to John Milton, the most dangerous assassin in the pay of Her Majestys government.
Meet John Milton. He considers himself an artisan. A craftsman. His trade is murder. Milton is the man the government sends after you when everything else has failed. Ruthless. Brilliant. Anonymous. Lethal. You wouldn't pick him out of a crowd, but you wouldn't want to be on his list.
But now, after ten years, he's had enough - there's blood on his hands, and he wants out. Trouble is this job is not one you can just walk away from. In this dip into his case files, Milton is sent into North Korea. With nothing but a sniper rifle, bad intentions, and a very particular target. Will Milton be able to take on the secret police of the most dangerous failed state on the planet?

    Excellent story but too short
I really enjoyed this short story. The writer was able to put me in the center of the story. The characters were realistic and fully developed. The plot was believable and exciting. I was disappointed that it was not longer because the writer had set the reader up for a roller coaster ride and it ended too quickly. I hope to see more material from this writer.
The reader was also excellent. I had no trouble distinguishing who was who. He accelerated the excitement which added a measure of enjoyment.
Mark Dawson Department Five novels his best work
superb if too short. I have not found a single one of the John Milton Series or Department Five novels by Dawson a disappointment
    Good Story
Very good story, good characters, very entertaining. liking forward to the next book. The main character is very good at his job, gets out of almost impossible situations by knowing how most men will react to situations. Lots of action, and intrigue, very good for a spy type book.
Great start to the John Milton series!
Mark Dawson is a very successful British author who got his start self publishing. 1000 Yards is an Audible Studios produced short story that introduces John Milton to the audiobook audience. It is a great espionage story set mostly in North Korea. There are now a total of 2 short stories and 8 novels in the Milton series. From my perspective the quality has dropped in some of the more recent novels from 5 stars to 4 stars. It is still a wonderful series.
    New Start
Good start for the series of books about John Milton. Lots of facts and figures that just got in the way of the story.

Xiang Li Cheng, the President of the People's Republic of China, has both a problem and a plan. The problem is that the limited supply of oil available to China is threatening to derail his country's economic growth and prosperity. But to secure access to those resources, he must contend with powerful U.S. Navy and the Pacific Fleet. After a decades-long largely secret military buildup, Cheng sets his plan in motion by suddenly invading Taiwan and drawing the Pacific Fleet in to its defense. With a faster, larger fleet with more capable long range missiles, China is able to surprise and quickly overwhelm the American fast attack fleet, all but wiping out the U.S. forces on deployment. Then China turns to its real objective - invasion and expansion across Asia, starting with the four main Islands of Japan.
While the Atlantic Fleet surges westward to defend its allies and respond to the destruction of their counterparts, it falls to an unlikely alliance of three people to stop this incursion and prevent World War III. National Security Advisor Christine O'Connor has critical information, but she's trapped in Beijing; Captain Murray Wilson, C.O. of the submarine USS Georgia must somehow infiltrate the Chinese submarine blockade; and Navy SEAL Jake Harrison must lead a strike team into the most hostile of territories with only hours to implement the most daring plan ever.

    High Octane Action
I enjoyed the first book in the series so much I decided to read book two. Christine OConner is the presidents national security advisor. She advises against signing the Maer Accord about the mutual access to environmental resources between the U.S. and her allies. The Accord severely limits Chinas access to natural resources. OConner said this will lead to war with China; the Chief or Staff says it will not lead to war. OConner flies to China to attempt to offset a war but she is arrested and confined to a cell; as China goes to war. She escapes and eventually end up on the U.S. Michigan, a trident submarine.
Three American submarines are immediately destroyed as China launches war. Chinas missiles and ships are more sophisticated than expected and she has many many more than does the Pacific Fleet. When China gets the Pacific Fleet exactly where they want it, they also launch cyberwarfare.
The book is well written and is non-stop action. The battle scenes are real nail biters. The book seems quite realistic. I could hardly put the book down. This is a great military action novel.
I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is about thirteen and a half hours long. Fred Berman does a great job narrating the book. Berman is an actor and award winning audiobook narrator.
Decent storyline but narrator is unbearable
The story line is decent but the narration is a big distraction to me. I should have listened to the audio sample but I didn't. He sounds like Joe Pesci screaming when he tries to read the dramatic parts. Imagine nails to a chalkboard. His normal reading voice, I can bear but beyond that; it's like a tenor trying to reach beyond his range. The different characters all sound the same same.
The author definitely knows his submarines and weaves a good enough story to keep you engaged. I totally enjoyed Rick Campbell's first book, The Trident Deception and narrator was good. This one; not so much.

    Great book!
James Rollins delivered a fabulous book and a fitting end to this series. I recommend it, hands down! Not a huge fan of the narrator as he is too erratic in volume (I'm always turning it up and down!), but he has a good voice and its nice to have all of the books read by the same person.
    Narrator Needs Training
What would have made Blood Infernal better?
I might have enjoyed the story but couldn't get past the narration. Every other sentence ended on an up note even when the characters weren't asking questions. There was no distinction between the voices of the characters making it hard to follow or bond with any of the individual players.
I think I would probably enjoy reading this novel, but couldn't finish the audio book simply because of the narration. Maybe the narrator is new and can improve with time; however, I am sorry to write that I cannot recommend his performance for other audio books.
Oh well, better luck next time.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
    No.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Christian Baskous?
    Scott Thomas
    Sean Mangan
    Ray Porter,
    D.M. Pulley
    P.J. Ochlan
In other words, anyone but Mr. Baskous.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Couldn't finish it so don't know. I suppose based upon the plot and what little I did listen to it is probably a pretty good book.
    Great Ending to the Series
What made the experience of listening to Blood Infernal the most enjoyable?
I loved this book! I thought it was a wonderful ending to the series and I thoroughly enjoyed each of the books. Christian Baskous did a fantastic job narrating.

Whoever says crime doesn't pay isn't doing it right.
There are hundreds of casinos in Las Vegas, and Billy Cunningham knows how to rip off every one. His scams are a thing of beauty - so perfectly orchestrated that onlookers believe he and his crew are winning fair and square. In a town where bosses will kill to protect their profits, Billy can't afford to make mistakes, but even the best-laid plans can go wrong...
Desperate to keep his team out of jail, Billy agrees to help stop a legendary family of thieves from taking down a casino. But he has no intention of breaking the cheater's code: never rat out your own kind. He's running his own con on the casino's psycho owner and his vicious, violent wife. Throw in a murderous drug dealer, a vengeful gaming agent, and the girl Billy's never forgotten, and this scam artist is playing for sky-high stakes: a cool eight million, and the chance to live long enough to spend it.

    Barely worth finishing
    Any additional comments?
A mediocre heist story. The basic outline is interesting enough. But the characters vary between wit and observational skills that require psychic powers on the one hand and near idiocy on the other. The explanations of criminal law and procedure are absurd. The explanations about casino security are not believable or engaging. The characters are shallow. I won't look for anything more from this author.
    A playable hand
Interesting storyline...something a little different. Good array of characters, from villains to main character. Interesting twist at the conclusion... Worth the few dollars on the special of the day but I would not use a credit.
If the story starts to flop, describe a hot chick.
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I think the story had a good premise (although already done by other books) but it falls short. It seemed like when the story was wearing thin, a description of some porn star or account of a sexual encounter would be added in to attempt to regain interest. It was ok as a bargain buy. I would have been annoyed if I had wasted a credit on it or paid more than a few dollars for it.
    loved it!
I could not stop listening to this book. The narrator was excellent and the story was quite exciting for me.
    Meaningless time-passer
The narration of the book is flawless - no doubt about it. However, there's not much to the book itself. The story could have been told in 50 pages with room to recapitulate WW2.
If daily TV soap operas are your thing this book might suite. Otherwise: these are not the droids you're looking for.
