Anyone who needs a laugh would love this story!
Tales from Little Lump - Alien Season by Jeff Folschinsky is a short book, I guess you would call it a novella but what it lacks in length, it makes up for in humor. It is something I am glad I read in private because I just couldn't contain my laughter.
The setting is Little Lump, Texas and the main character is a older woman who is cranky (to say the least) but she sure don't take any 'funny business' from others, not even the aliens! I really do love her and she totally makes me laugh. The other characters are also great, the story couldn't happen or be this funny without them but I can't help but love Gertie!
I really can't say too much about the story as I don't want to spoil anything but put this town, a doomsday prepper, a conspiracy theorist, a bunch of scared town folks, and an alien together and you have what make this a fast moving, totally funny, quick read. I think anyone who would like a good laugh would love this story.
    Wickedly sarcastic
Judging this book by its cover, I was expecting a gory, shoot-em up, Men in Black kind of story. However, this book was spectacular! Not only is it laugh out loud hilarious, but the writing is so good you will want to read it again and again. The author, Jeff Folschinsky, has my favorite writing style: wickedly sarcastic.
The characters in the story are well drawn. I loved Aunt Gertie. She is sharp tongued and not afraid to speak her mind. The story is told from her point of view and unfolds with perfectly paced timing. The reader really gets the feel of the small town store and the paranoia that grows between people that have known each other for years.
I loved this book. At just over 100 pages, it is a quick read, which is great because once you start you will not put it down. This book is extremely well edited and formatted. I have already read this one twice! I will be adding Jeff Folschinsky to my list of favorite authors! Highly recommend.
    Quirky fun!
Tales From Little Lump- Alien Season by Jeff Folschinsky is a 106 page fiction story written in first person. Folschinsky has a way of drawing the reader in and keeping your attention throughout the entire book. The characters are lively and easily imagined, their dialogue fits them perfectly. The story moves at a nice pace, I read the book in one sitting.
The story unfolds in Little Lump, Texas, at Aunt Gertieâs Gasân Sip. Along with the colorful characters the story is chock full of small town humor. Before long, resident Gene Kelly is claiming that he is hearing messages sent through his radio, which he believes is from the government to aliens. He suggests that coded coordinates for an alien landing is being sent and received. He also ties in recent crop circles and town-wide electrical outages as proof of his claim. I donât want to give away the ending, but I will suggest picking up this quirky book and having a fun read.
    Fun without end...
This book had me laughing out loud.

SF and Humour - A Great Combination!
All Aliens Like Burgers" is a brand new science-fiction novel by author and sci-fi fan Ruth Wheeler. Published by Hirst Publishing, this is a novel aimed more at the teenage end of the market but with enough appeal to lure in some of the older crowd too. It follows the story of teenager Tom Bowler and his somewhat bizarre adventures after he applies for a job with a Fast Food company. It's not giving too much away by revealing that Tom gets the job, only to find that he's working in a burger bar - on another planet! As the story unfolds, we get to learn more about the world Tom now inhabits, his new friends and the odd enemy or two!
"All Aliens Like Burgers" is an entertaining read and it's good to know that there are still writers out there who don't feel the need to resort to bad language, sex and violence in order to win over today's teens. Personally, I felt that the main characters were perhaps a little too bland and a little more character conflict wouldn't have gone amiss. However, there are nice touches of humour and Wheeler's invention of a gross sport known as Spotoon will definately appeal strongly to young readers in particular!
The more seasoned science fiction fan may detect elements of the classic "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" series of novels in the depiction of some of the alien races and of course the ever-present humour. "All Aliens Like Burgers" is the first of a trilogy and teases with one or two potential new plot threads left hanging. Like the fast food industry it satirizes, Wheeler's novel provides instant gratification and ultimately leaves you wanting more.
I would happily recommend this as the perfect gift for youngsters who enjoy science-fiction, Dr Who fans and all those who enjoy a good, imaginative tale!
    Really enjoyed this book!!
This is a light-hearted story is fast moving, very funny and imaginative, I highly recommend this to douglas adams/eoen colfer fans and fans other comedic sci-fi.
Couldn't put it down and well worth the read.
    Go buy it!

"I lost so much weight I could float above my bed!"
    Lida Blair
The hilarious new spoof diet book from New York Times best-selling author Chris Dolley. It's a fun, quick listen, covering everything from "the science of possession" to "Crapper Clinic's Demon Dating Service", while ensuring "clients" are possessed by the demon most compatible with their slimming needs. This is the diet book that everyone is talking about.
Some of you may have read about the clinical trials undertaken by Stepford University - one of the leading universities on the PLANET, with more likes on Facebook than Harvard and six times that of Stanford!
Or maybe you watched Chelsee Chambers test the diet on Extreme Celebrity Weight Loss. Or caught the Projectile Vomiting video on YouTube.... The Possession Diet is the ONLY diet guaranteed 110% effective by the FDA (Federal Demon Association) - and it's ALMOST NEVER FATAL! Listen to the testimonials. Hear about Astral Exercising and Head Spinning. Try the recipes.... If you want to know how to lose OVER THIRTY POUNDS in ONE day (without using a chainsaw) this is the book for you!
Brick Crapper has seven doctorates, awarded by the Internet's leading universities, and is a judge on America's Idlest Loser.
    Editorial Reviews:
Do you want to get rid of that unsightly belly flab, but hate sweating on treadmills or giving up chocolate cake in favor of kale? Chris Dolley has the solution: Allow demons to possess your body and do all the work for you! In his hilarious send-up of diet fads and self-help books, Dolley extols the benefits of being possessed, preaches exorcisms over exercises, and even provides handy recipes and calorie counters for would-be cannibals. In the spirit of parody, Scott Coppola performs with the over-zealousness of a late night infomercial announcer, selling listeners a ludicrous premise with abundant wit.
    Members Reviews:
    Short but very funny
Have you tried every other diet and came away unsatisfied? Then you should try Possession! In "How Possession Can help you lose weight" Brick Crapper explains how this diet works and assures the readers that it is almost never fatal!
This is a short and very funny spoof of a self-help/diet book. Chris Dolley manages to cover the subject coherently with many references to scenes from well known horror movies. I greatly enjoyed this novella and can recommend it to anyone who is familiar with the horror genre and likes a good laugh!
REMEMBER TO FILL OUT YOUR DEMON DATING QUESTIONNAIRE!
So the cover is a bit freaky. That's your first couple of calories lost right there -- grosses you out so much that if you're sitting there trying to read while eating potato chips, well hey - those potato chips are gonna stick in your throat a bit - ewwwww!!
Chris Dolley takes on the diet marketing industry in his digital book, "How Possession Can Help You Lose Weight". It's filled with many statistical references - many from Facebook (& we ALL know that what you read on the internet is TRUE) and useful tidbits like a calorie counter (eating your small next door neighbor is only 80,000 calories) and recipes (Financial Analyst Prepared Five Ways). He also warns how if everyone were to congregate in Miami, the US would likely sink & tip Alaska up.

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 54 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-24-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
    Genres: Fiction, Humor
    Publisher's Summary:
A delightfully funny and moving novel about the singular life of a cantankerous Jewish-American writer and anarchist troublemaker, as remembered by his daughter. In 1972, 64-year-old Ezra Slavin's heart gives out at an anti-war rally. A contentious and irascible Jewish-American writer, anarchist, and inadvertent guru to discontented youth, he leaves behind a large extended family of ex-wives, lovers, and children, most of whom had cut all ties with the infuriating intellectual provocateur years earlier.
Out of the entire family, only one daughter, Merry, a journalist, can remember her father with her own critical, conflicted understanding, a saddened sympathy approaching love. As the day of his memorial approaches, she attempts to make sense of the puzzle of Ezra's life before all of its disparate, discordant elements come crashing together at the service.
The award-winning author of Other People's Lives, Johanna Kaplan creates a vivid cast of unforgettable characters who reveal the disparity between Ezra's long-suffering, neglected family, his admiring friends, and the youthful hangers-on - and, most notably, in the outrageously enigmatic Ezra himself. At once hilarious and poignant, O My America! offers a fascinating evocation of a time and place in America, a satiric history of the immigrant Jewish experience, and a wonderful portrait of an exasperating yet endearing anti-hero pursuing his unique vision of the American dream.

    O your America
Not enjoyed as much as I thought I would. Too many caracters at different eras. I did not finish reading it. Oy vey!
Very funny family novel set in the craziness of the 1970s
A young woman tries find peace and meaning among the complicated relationships of her extended family. The largest character in her life is her father, a forceful, famous, charming, infuriating Jewish cultural figure. He is an emotional presence in several households, and she moves among them, interreacting with loves and lovers of several generations. The novel is touching and moving but also very funny. It's like a play: the characters talk a variety of languages: the grandparents' Yiddish-English, the parents' old-time Jewish socialist English, the young people's New York English of the 1970's. They all sound exactly right. I especially enjoyed revisiting the seventies, which in this version turn out to have been exactly the way I remember but even funnier.

Trish Cunningham is the host of the nationally syndicated television show, Homeless Makover, where they select a homeless person at random off the streets and turn them into a cleaned up, shaved, coiffed and smartly dressed gentleman. They have one day to make the transformation.
Can it be done with this particular man of the streets? It's a tall order, but they're just about done when, what do we see here? Uh oh.
    Members Reviews:
No good deed.... (as the saying goes)
Trish and her cameraman, Sid, were filming a reality show called Homeless Makeover. The current subject for transformation was Hank Logan. He needed a LOT of work, but they were counting on him to put the show over the top.
Just as they were almost done shooting for the day they ran into a couple of problems. Maybe Hank wouldn't be the one to bring those high ratings after all.
Grab your own copy and find out for yourself exactly what went wrong with this episode of Homeless Makeover. After all, Hank was cleaning up really well....
An enjoyable light read, this short story from Bernico will not take long to read so check it out today.
    Mildly entertaining light read.
I've read a few of Bill Bernico's short stories now. They are what I call light reading, easy to get into, and easy to get out of. Some are better than others. I find that in a lot of them, the story is just so unbelievable, and people act so out of character for real people that it spoils the story. However, at the same time, they are intended as light reading with no time for character development, so some artistic licence should be allowed.
This one didn't grab me. As a formerly homeless person I was unhappy with the stereotypes used in this story were annoying. Also, the absolute lack of compassion from the news crew when the homeless man dies is disturbing.
It is okay as light reading goes, it will keep you entertained for a while, but it won't knock your socks off.
    How far?
Nice take on reality shows. How far will they go to keep us entertained? The camera crew and hostess come across nicely as uncaring except for themselves. It encompasses the entertainment industry in all its glory.
    good
Read all the multi-packs and shorts packs long ago, since 2012. The author has gotten better with age/practice. I've read almost all of the Cooper stories (1 - 230) and several of Mr. Bernico's short stories and most have not disappointed me. You'll find some poorly written or predictable stories, but for the most part they are fair to good. The Cooper series are better, but there's a few stinkers, too. They're great for a coffee break or a few minutes to relax.

Break out the Irish dancing!! Tallulah's Back!!!
Tallulah is back! Sheâs off to Dither, um Dother Hall constantly in pursuit of the golden slippers of applause, if only her knees would cooperate and not bust out into spontaneous Irish dancing. The same cast of characters is back and they are all bonkers as ever.
Back with her host family, the Dobbinses, she finds them as mad as ever. Dibdobs has taken to making food out of what she forages which includes cake made out of moss and bread made out of snail shells. The lunatic twins are as out of control as ever, although, this time they have pet turtles named Mickey and Dicky they carry with them every.
Here little friend Ruby and Matilda the dog are as incomprehensible as ever. Ruby is 11 going on 20 and wants to be included in all the goings on whether she is old enough or not. Her father, Mr. Baraclough, owner of the Blind Pig still calls Tallulah a long lanky lad and he is now in a band called The Iron Pies. They take music and switch the lyrics about so every song they do references pies, like âPie in the Skyâ.
The Bottomly sisters are still as horrid as ever. Beverly has tried to drown herself in the stream after Cain broke up with her. All the sisters have it out for Tallulah since they think she is the cause of all of Beverlyâs troubles with Cain. Mrs. Bottomly is still after Cain and swears she will shoot him if she sees him.
The Hinchcliffs are as cool as ever. They are in a band called The Joneses and think they are all Godâs gift to women. They are all dark, handsome and devilish, especially Cain. For some reason, Cain has taken a liking to Tallulah, or so it seems. Last term, he licked a hailstone off her nose and then snogged her on the moors, a fact she is trying to forget and canât let anyone know about.
The Woolfe boys and Tree Sisters are back with the exception of Honey who left for Hollywood last term. They still meet at their special tree during lunch. Jo and Phil are dating.

Sometimes childish, sometimes rude, always clever and always very, very funny, this book has delighted most, and outraged a few, Tolkien fans in the US for more than 40 years. Pulling in references to popular culture and fantasy literature as a whole, this is a killingly effective parody of The Lord of the Rings. From the dreary Goddamn (Gollum) to the feckless Arrowroot (Aragorn), the bungling Goodgulf (Gandalf) to the timid, mean-minded boggies Frito (Frodo) and Dildo (Bilbo), no character is safe. Fleeing the Nozdrul, bored by acid-casualty Tim Benzedrine and harassed throughout by the minions of Sorhed, the fellowship move through a Middle Earth like no other. Short, sharp and very much to the point, even Tolkien would be hard-pressed to suppress a giggle at Bored of the Rings.
Read by Rupert Degas. Rupert Degas has narrated over 100 audiobooks. He has recorded a diverse range of authors, from Andy McNab, James Patterson, Wilbur Smith, and Chris Ryan to children's authors such as Derek Landy, Darren Shan, Jamie Rix, and Philip Pullman. He has narrated books by Patrick Rothfuss, Haruki Murakami, Mervyn Peake, Rose Tremain, and Cormac McCarthy as well as recording classics from Kafka, Conan Doyle, Lovecraft, and Wilde. Rupert has lent his voice to numerous cartoons, including Mr Bean, Robotboy, Gumball, Thomas & Friends, and Bob the Builder and has performed in over 50 radio productions for BBC Radio 4, including The Brightonomicon and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He spent 18 months in the West End performing in Stones in his Pockets and was in the original London cast of the smash-hit comedy The 39 Steps. Produced by Peter Rinne.

    My original went AWOL.
I have been trying to locate a reasonably priced copy of this book for years - literally! Finally, after 43 years, they have reprinted it!!!
This is the book my in-laws used to quote snippits of! And for Christmas one year we gave my Father-in-law a corduroy thesaurus with dangling participles!
If you are a fan of Tolkien's books, will will laugh yourself silly over this irreverent parody. If you aren't a fan of Tolkien's books, you will still find humor in reading this book, especially if you are a Boomer, simply because of the dated references made into names and locations.
So travel through the Nagio Marsh and through the Evelyn Wood with boggies Frito Bugger, Spam Gangree, Pepsi and Moxie, Stomper the Ranger (Arrowroot of Arrowshirt), Goodgulf the wizard, Legolam, the elf and Gimlet the dwarf on their quest to throw the ring of power into the zazu pits of Fordor and destroy Sorhed's power once and for all!
The glory of this book has faded a bit... but it's still an enjoyable read
When I first read this A LONG TIME AGO it was laugh-out-loud / can't-catch-my-breath funny. It's still a great parody, but it takes a little effort to recall the "in jokes", even though this copy has footnotes for those who didn't live through the 70's. I gave a copy to my daughter, who shares my sardonic viewpoint on life, and she just couldn't get into it.
For those of an older generation, you'll probably enjoy it.
If you loved LOTR and over 55 this is side splitting humor.
This in my opinion is the best thing H-Lampoon ever did.

    Very Entertaining
Where does Not Much to Do in Wellington rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Although this was a short story, I found it to be quite captivating. I thought that the narrator, Nick Sarando, did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. He really pulled off narrating as a 15 year old boy better than most narrators could have. The story took some interesting and surprising turns. Kudos to the author, Dustin Hurley.

The boys interaction from crisis to mounting crisis
    Which scene was your favorite?
Picturing the Old Man in his underwear and scaring the boys with his home made cocoa.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
there is a religious undertone and God's good characters defeating the evil. I really like that the hero was still forgiving and loving toward the anti character and acceptance of the need to squelch the bad that comes up in people every now and then and get back on the right path.
    Any additional comments?
Great for children from 12 up and anyone else interested in light action comedies
