I love Laurie Fagen's style and characters. Fast paced and wonderful mix of fact and fiction. I've read everything Laurie has written and I'm constantly torn between wanting to quickly dive into the newest book, and wanting to savor the story.

A book you cant put down!

loving it...

This is a realistic,empathetic book about an FBI agent and the decisions he makes. The consequences of his actions almost seem like Karma when seemingly random events begin to gel together. This book will keep you reading till the end!

The Great Work

I was not surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It was worth the wait to see how things were going to work out for Gavin. I hope there will be another ...it felt like a clliffhanger at the end. I would happily recommend this book to others....

Murder, Money, and Foxy Ladies Up in the Catskills

With only thirty pages from Spillane's files, this Mike Hammer novel might be more Collins than Spillane. I don't care if the Easter Bunny wrote it! Just give me one more Mike Hammer novel to sink my teeth into!

Dark, foreboding, grim, Hardboiled, and nasty. Although there are hints of organized crime, this one is almost more of a murder mystery weekend in the big haunted mansion with suspicion falling in turn on each family member.

The story is classic detective work for most of it and veteran Hammer readers will wonder when they'll come against the sudden explanation explosions of violence that Hammer is famous for. Doubt worry, it's all here - more bodies than you can imagine, more twisted motives, more seductive redheads dropping their blouses, gambling halls, sexy money grabbing two bit babes. Bodies floating, daring rescues. Great stuff, indeed.

Once again Max Allan Collins has completed a Mike Hammer novel originally begun by Mickey Spillane; and what a story! Hammer stumbles across a partial body on an ice floe in the Hudson. It turns out to be the butler of the wealthy Dunbar estate that happens to be an old friend of Pat Chambers, Capt. of Homicide and Hammer's close friend. It seems there was another fishy death of the millionaire Dunbar himself a few years earlier and Chambers is suspicious, but can't investigate because it is out of his jurisdiction, so he recruits Hammer to do some snooping around. The Collins/Spillane collaboration is able to bring us, once again, a classic Mike Hammer novel that ranks right up there with Spillane's best. This edition of Mike Hammer is a real page-turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Highly enjoyable and a must for all Hammer fans!

An enjoyable addition to the Mike Hammer canon

I've been a Mike Hammer fan for going on 4 decades since, as a teenager, discovering Mickey Spillane during the Miller Lite phase of his career in the late 70s, I was happy to read that Max Allan Collins took over the Mike Hammer series with Mickey's blessing.

The book is enjoyable and an easy read. The plot twist was part surprise and part "Spillane's already done this" but then again, the later books tended to recycle ideas and plot bits. (When you read The Goliath Bone, didn't you think "Oh, I've seen that in I the Jury"?).

A Krimi set in Berlin in 1929

It is a police story with a thick cover in a Berlin setting in 1929. It has a Stieg Larsen feeling for the urban geography of Berlin, its streets, its night life, its dialect, its social milieu. Kirschner paints a good plot rich with characters in a late Weimar Republic climate of political and social forces. It could be more realistic....life in the fast lane in Berlin, in midnight clubs and restaurants would have expensive, rent should a burden, salaries pinched but , on the other, limits on modern life in Berlin do show through for the lower middle class of the police. The rich story telling of the detective story, however, did not quite come to a resolution that reaches a higher literature, rather it took a tv series like ending.

Amazing narrator! I cannot stop listening to this German original. Not sure if it is just the story, the way it is told, or both, but I cannot stop.

Could not put it down,very interesting to read about pre war times in Berlin.

This book is amazing. There's no other book that captures the athmosphere of Berlin in such a captivating way.

Loved This!

Against his better judgment, P.I. Johnny Delarosa takes on a beautiful auburn-haired woman as his client. Claire Dixon has hired him to find two million dollars that she feels is rightfully hers but is that her only agenda? Does the money even exist or is it simply an urban legend? Johnny will have a big payday if he can find it, assuming that he doesn't get killed first.

Wow, I just loved this! Johnny and his sidekicks are in for more than they bargained for when ex-mobsters get wind of the missing money. Action packed, sexy and humorous, this book was a modern take on the old detective stories. The great twist at the end was the finishing touch. Bill Lord as the narrator was perfect for this audiobook and gets two enthusiastic thumbs up. I really enjoyed Auburn Ride: A Johnny Delarosa Thriller and would recommend it.

PI Classic

John Delarosa is an ex cop turned private eye who is in partnership with his old police partner in a bar and private investigation business. The story opens with Delarosa rescuing a beautiful young lady, Katie, from a kidnapping. Similar to all the old PI classics this one also starts with a beautiful women with auburn hair, Claire, and a lot of cash. She slaps down $20000 in cash and hires him to look for two million dollars siphoned off from the Italian mob decades ago. Katie is so enthralled with Delarosa and his rescue and his job that she somehow convinces him to hire her to help with his investigations. With the mention of 2 million, an old mob accountant blows his own brains out in front of Delarosa, and other old mobsters come to the forefront all after the money. Claire isn't telling the whole story and Delarosa et al are led on a goose chase that starts piling up bodies. The action never stops and the characters are believable and likable.

I love it when a book surprises me in a good way. The ending on this fast paced book was excellent. I was kept engaged in the book from the very beginning and loved some of the characters. Another wonderful Heir Hunter series novel!

I listened to Trace Evidence immediacy after completing Blood Trails (the first novel in the Heir Hunter series). In this one a billionaire CEO Veronica Beaumont is trying to find the father of her eight year old son to see if he can qualify as a bone marrow donor which her son will die without. The father Josh Hallman was never made aware of his son. Desperate to find Hallman, Beaumont hires Michael Flint the people hunter of last resort for 5 million dollars plus expenses plus an additional 5 million if he is successful. Hallman is believed to have died in a private plane he was piloted 5 years ago. Beaumont has reason to believe he survived even though his two passengers did not.

The Heir Hunter series by Diane Capri is off to a great start. She is an outstanding author of mysteries. This is a wonderful suspense mystery and the narration by Eric G Dove is as good as the book.

Suspenseful West Virginia story

This story is great. I love the setting, the author makes you feel as though you are there in Buckneck WV, and the characters feel like friends.

The mystery kept the story moving right along, and I had to keep listening-it was very compelling!

If you like Christian mystery/suspense novels, I recommend this one!

Trial by Twelve

I read and enjoyed the first book in the Murder in the Mountains series, Miranda Warning, last year, so I had high expectations for this second one. I wasnt disappointed! Although it is a standalone book, I loved it as a sequel, glad to return to the Appalachian community.

Ms. Gilbert writes some of the most natural, realistic characters I have ever read, especially within the Spencer family. Their relationships feel genuine. I like all of them, but Nikki Jo is my favorite. I want to be that mother-in-law.

The authors skill with characterization is clear from the start. Tess Spencer is working a part-time job at the beginning of this book, at an upscale spa. Her coworkers are odd, and her boss is unpredictable. When the inevitable body is discovered, an extraordinary law man shows up to solve the problem. Various minor characters come and go, and they are all interesting. And potential villains? Ms. Gilbert is good at dangling red herrings in front of her readers.

Tesss husband, Thomas, seems more confident and active in this story than in the previous one, which adds depth to their relationship. Tesss old friend, Axel, shows up in his guardian angel role and disappears again. The narrator of the audiobook does an excellent job of consistently distinguishing the characters.

As in Miranda Warning, Ms. Gilbert weaves the contemporary and historical stories together through a series of old letters, gradually revealing information that changes our perception of the situation and characters, ramping up the tension but not giving away the solution of the mystery until the end of the book. I didnt guess whodunnit until the end, and there were a few surprises thrown in there.

I liked the book, and Im looking forward to the next book in the series.

Best one so far.

I love the fact that even though this was the fourth book, it still reads as a stand alone. I loved the action, passion, dialog, and witty banter. The fact that it tied in real life events gave it that much more punch.

Great Books!

I recommend that you read the full series. An Original Story, and you won't want to miss a chapter. Well developed characters, both good and bad, I definitely developed some grudges along the way. Very interesting back story, that added depth and texture to the characters and the plot. I really enjoyed the authors writing style and now have another of her titles, waiting for me to finish this review. I really enjoyed this book and the rest of the series.
