Dr. Gregorio Sicard and Dr. Frank Caputo on the Management of Endograft Failures, Open Aortic Surgical Training, and Mentorship

Dr. Gregorio Sicard is Professor Emeritus of Surgery and Emeritus Chief of Vascular Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He trained in general surgery at the Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine, and completed the first Transplantation Fellowship there. He eventually became the Chief of Vascular Surgery and Chief of General Surgery at Washington Hospital. He founded the Vascular surgery fellowship there in 1983. He is a former President of the Society of Vascular Surgery, and recipient of the 2018 Society for Vascular Surgery Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a pioneer in the retroperitoneal approach to the aorta, and is regarded as a master aortic surgeon by his peers.  He has a legacy of trainees who have gone on to assume leadership roles in Vascular Surgery. 

 

Dr. Frank Caputo is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He is also the Vascular Surgery Director of the Aorta Center, Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Training Programs. His clinical interests include complex open and endovascular repair of  thoracic, thoracoabdominal and abdominal aortic aneurysms, management of thoracic dissection, endovascular and open repair of  failed endografts. Dr. Caputo earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey, Newark, NJ, where he also served his surgical residency and two years as a National Institutes of Health research fellow. He completed his fellowship in vascular surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital of Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. where he served as administrative fellow. He joined the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2018.
