  • 053: How do you read so much?
As an author as well as a life coach a question that I get frequently is how I am able to read so many books.
I hear this question from people who desire to read more regularly, but just can’t find the time.
The truth is for a while I stopped reading because honestly my doctoral program reading requirements burned me out. When I graduated I got to a point where I swore I may never read again.
Thank goodness I let that promise go.
Deep down I recognized that there is a ton of value in reading and so I committed to reading regularly.
The difference now is I get to pick the books I read and I feel more inspired to read knowing the benefits of it.
Studies have shown that reading can actually prevent Alzheimer’s or dementia it can reduce stress, expand your vocabulary, and helps to inform your writing.
The best thing about reading is that we live in such a fast-paced world that our attention is always being focused on 1 million different things. Reading allows us to improve our focus by taking time to hone in on one thing at a time and shutting off the rest of the world. It’s like a brief and convenient getaway!
When I was growing my business I knew that the only way to understand how to be an awesome author and effective entrepreneur was through educating myself.
While I hired a coach I quickly knew that reading would be a key component to accomplishing this goal.
I also learned that a daily habit of wealthy and smart people was reading. Research says the average millionaire reads 50 books a year, while the average American reads 12.
When reading this I set a goal to finish 52 books by the end of the year (1 for each week).
Last year I surpassed that goal and finished with a total of 57 books that I read.
In today’s episode I share exactly how I did it and how you can too. If you committed to making reading a regular practice how would your life shift?

  • 051: The 3 C’s In Goal Setting
When I am working to reach a new goal in my life I follow a system- Clarity, Change and Commitment.
Clarity- identifying what it is that you truly want cuz honestly how can you operate from a place of confusion? Quiet as kept you can't know where you are going without knowing where you are.
Think about it, when you plug in your route destination into your GPS in order to receive step by step turns your current location must be recognized.
So today take a moment to think of where you are currently and route out the directions to get your ideal destination.
Change- The truth is the only thing constant in the world is change so we must embrace it and be willing to make changes that we need in order to get to where we desire to be. So when it comes to your goals you have to be willing to change what isn’t working in order to make room for what will.
Commitment - most people operate from a place of motivation which means unfortunately when motivation is gone they aren’t working on their goals. The truth is motivation comes and goes this is why commitment is so important. Commitment means showing up for what you said you would long after the mood you said it in has left you. You must being willing to commit to your goals and the life you desire to live UNAPOLOGETICALLY because truly committing to your goals and your future is the strongest form of self love.
These are the three keys to setting and achieving your desired goals and living a purpose-filled life. The good news is that these are not difficult steps to implement . You take it one step at a time. If you’re looking for more support on your goal setting journey sign up for a FREE strategy call with me here: https://calendly.com/nicolyawilliams

  • 050: Busyness as a coping mechanism
Busyness may feel harmless when we look at it at first glance. After all you’re just filling your schedule with things that allow you to focus on what’s important and you’re creating a chance for you to become more productive.
The sad reality is that busyness can actually prevent you from being present within your own life and therefore wreck havoc on your overall wellbeing.
Feeling the need to be busy all the time is a response we do out of fear and what we are scared may happen if we slow down.
A lot of times after we have experienced something traumatic the idea of having to deal with the difficult emotions associated with the experience feels overwhelming and definitely not fun.
So we try to cover our time with things that will keep us distracted so we don’t have to face it.
The truth is eventually we have to face it we’re just delaying the inevitable.
Instead of running from it or trying to cover up your thoughts and emotions with people, places or just the busyness be still with your thoughts . In today’s episode I walk you through the process of slowing down and removing busyness from your calendar. • 048: If you’re a new or aspiring coach this is for you
As a new coach there are going to be a lot of changes in your life. Not just in business but personally as well. Honestly when I began my coaching business I saw all these coaches making 100k a month easily and I assumed that I would get my certification and create a huge stream of revenue, but in reality it felt like I launched and it was followed up with crickets. I quickly became discouraged and disheartened but I kept feeling a tug to keep going. Now as I have found my flow I am so fascinated with being able to support new coaches understand their journey and embrace it so they can create the success they desire and deserve. So today I wanted to share three tips for a new coaches so that you can understand the journey, embrace the journey and launch that business!
Get comfortable being uncomfortable- if you focus on only being comfortable there’s no opportunity for growth there. Many times we buy into the illusion of the comfort zone but that’s not an opportunity for us to grow in the direction of our dreams. When I challenge my clients to do is to focus on getting comfortable being uncomfortable because when you step out of that comfort zone you open up the endless opportunities available to you.
Work on your beliefs about what is possible . Every time you up level you’ll run into a new limiting belief. This is our body‘s way of trying to keep us safe in a place that’s relatable and familiar. What I challenge you to do is acknowledge your beliefs that are limiting determine how you can adjust them to create beliefs that are going to serve you and your overall success.
Get support!. Many times our pride will try to sell us the story that we can figure it out all alone. Entrepreneurship can be a very lonely ride especially when you don’t have people in your corner. When I hired my very favorite first coach it helped me to feel very safe heard held and supported. Because of that level of support I was able to hold myself accountable go out against fear and create success that never would’ve been able to be achieved alone. I highly recommend that you’re getting the support that you need to create the success that you deserve and desire.
Why the coaching business is not always glamorous easy or fun what I can say is it extremely worth it. If you’re looking for more support more tools and more strategies on your journey to being able to increase your income and your impact as a coach I have just a thing for you. • 046: Find Your Focus
Humans have an attention span shorter than that of a fish. It doesn't help that we live in a microwave mentality of society and have digital access to everything at our fingertips. All of us are guilty of trying to multitask. I know for me, I was convinced I had adult-onset ADHD because it felt like no matter how hard I tried I could not focus. The reality is I was trying to balance too many things at once and I was not prioritizing where y focus should be. I convinced myself that I could handle many things at once and do so well. What I now know about being distracted is that you're teaching your brain to underperform. Much of the research on distractions and multi-tasking highlights that both lower your IQ similar to being high or drunk. And sometimes it can lower your IQ so low that it's almost as if you're handing tasks as a young child. Think about it would you want your 8-year-old sending emails for you, attending trainings for you, writing your book for you. Probably not. This is why we have to learn to shift our focus to what matters and continue to strengthen that muscle.
I want to share three ways to improve your focus and reduce distractions which in turn will help to increase your productivity.
    1. Take breaks- Taking breaks is okay. It is very beneficial as it allows us to regroup and refocus when we are done. I often will utilize the Pomodoro technique when I am working on something because of the built-in breaks I find that I am much more productive.
    2. Slow your brain down. Distractions always come, cuz let's be honest we live in a busy world. There is a strategy that I use to slow down and refocus and it is called the ABC method which is equivalent to pushing the breaks while driving a car. The first step is to Become Aware of your distractions. Is this something you can ignore, is it something you need to address? The next step is to Breathe deeply. This gives you a chance to make a calm and rational next step. Finally, you will want to consider your next option and then do that.
    3. Do not try to multitask. We are physically incapable of doing it, so in turn we are are not good at it. It also prevents us from doing our best work because in this case, we aren't giving anyone thing the attention it needs or deserves.
These are strategies I have incorporated into my life to improve my focus and in turn my productivity. We all need to have the ability to focus when necessary. The good news is that focus is a muscle you can build on. If your looking for more productivity hacks sign up for a FREE strategy call with me here: www.calendly.com/nicolyawilliams

  • 045: It’s okay to ask for help
For 7 days I lived with no lights in my house
-Not because I didn’t pay the bill
-Not because I was trying some random experiment
But because I tried to figure out a problem on my own 🤦🏾‍♀️
About 3 weeks ago the light switch in my room started to get finicky. I would turn it on and the lights would be off and I would turn it off and the lights would turn on.
Eventually I was getting annoyed with it, but with everything going on I had anxiety about calling an electrician so I decided to google the best fix.
If you know anything about google you know it can be your best friend AND your worst enemy.
There is a ton of valuable info on google and a ton of unexesaey or flat out wrong info there too. The problem is because I am not a electrician I had no way to determine which was which.
So I tried to fix my light and ended up blowing an entire fuse and in turn had no lights
So I then had to call an electrician- which looking back I should have done that from the beginning
After this entire experience I realized how grateful I am to have lights and how much I often overlook the small things. But I also realize how valuable having help truly is.
In life we try to attempt fixing or figuring out things on our own. But what we do is we cause a bigger mess.
But what I want you to know is:
-it’s okay to not know the answer
it’s okay to ask for help.
This entire experience helped to highlight how valuable it is to have someone who has the “know how”.
It prevents the overwhelm and saves you a lot of time and effort in the end.
Looking at my own experiences the times in my life were I have been most successful it’s when I have had my coach on my side.
When I have clients come to be because they have been stuck for years and then finally they have their first breakthrough when working with me.
    Help makes a tremendous difference
So let me ask you what problem are you trying to solve on your own? What goal are you attempting to reach by yourself ?
The biggest mistake you can make is to allow yourself to believe that you have to do this alone..... you don’t. If you’re looking for support sign up for a FREE discovery call with me here: www.calendly.com/NicolyaWilliams
