Written and directed by Dylan Tighe, this is a radio version of the play first presented at Cork Midsummer Festival and subsequently Dublin Theatre Festival in 2012. This alternative opera is based on songs from Dylan’s debut album also titled RECORD. Using medical records, autobiography, fiction and spoken word archive, RECORD is a brave and evocative production, which speaks honestly about what society sometimes deems taboo, and engages with criticisms of the science of mental health diagnoses and treatment.

Before Denis is born, his mother receives pre-implantation diagnosis. As a result, the dwarfism he would have inherited has been circumvented. But this very intervention makes him different to his siblings, and causes unforeseen problems for Denis - in a thought-provoking play investigating the ethical boundaries of genetics and medical practice.

Drama On One’s What Is Life season beings with the first of four plays inspired the world of science. Written and directed by Joe O’Byrne, this play is a sonic treatment of the real-life story of Hedy Lamarr, whose biography reads like a one-woman history of the 20th century. Born in Vienna, she emigrated to America where she became a movie screen idol as well as an inventor, registering a patent for a process called frequency hopping. This patent proposed a means of radio-guidance for weaponry, that would hop frequencies, making the radio guidance impossible to jam via enemy transmissions. This pre-dated a related technology that is used in Wi-fi. ‘What Next for Hedy Lamarr’ stars Olwen Fouéré, Mario Rosenstock, Roger Gregg and Hugh O’Connor with original music by Denis Clohessy.
