Welcome to THE PICKLE JAR PODCAST for episode 122 - Jill's Death-Aversary. Adrenal insufficiency is a serious life-threatening chronic illness and last June Jill experienced an Addison's tailspin that almost put her into cardiac arrest. Listening to this episode will remind you of the scary reality of this illness but also the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and being prepared for emergency situations.
Months of physical exhaustion, leg injury, and then wound infection sent Jill into a tailspin of low potassium and finally her potassium SPIKING to dangerous levels that should have stopped her heart. Luckily she was in her doctor's office when her body decided it no longer had the strength to manage ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY. A MEGA dose in-office of solu-cortef and a FAST & HARD ride to the emergency room to prevent cardiac arrest. Thankfully the megadose of steroids shifted Jill's electrolytes fast enough to prevent a tragic end.
Jill now experiences PTSD from the incident but is grateful for the reminder of the delicate nature of this disease. She is PREPARED for future crises. Instead of seeing the weaknesses in her body she now chooses to see the strength her body has every day to fight ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY.
