Dr. Moschovas answers questions about the study design and the data presented. He compared 244 patients who underwent RARP with concomitant hernia repair (inguinal, umbilical, and ventral) and mesh placement, with 244 patients from 6,275 RARPs operated on the same period without hernia repair. He also shares details on what kind of mesh was used in different cases, such as 3D and pro-grip.

In this podcast, Dr. Maria Carmen Mir Maresma (ES), chief editor of the UROONCO RCC editorial board talks to key opinion leader Prof. Alexander Kutikov (US) from Fox Chase Cancer Centre, Philadelphia. 

Prof. Kutikov shares details from his recent AUA2023 presentation in Chicago on the surgical complications associated with robotic partial nephrectomy (RPN).

He discusses the four major categories of complications of RPN which include vascular complications (haemorrhage, renal AV fistula/renal artery pseudoaneurysm), urine leak, injury to surrounding structures, and non-RO resection.

As one of the pioneers on complexity measurements for renal masses, Prof. Kutikov talks about the evolution of new technologies and how that will correlate with complications assessment.

He concludes with an update on machine learning and his opinion on how artificial intelligence  will assist in preventing surgical complications during RPN.

In this podcast, UROONCO BCa chief editor Dr. Benjamin Pradere (FR) talks to Prof. Siamak Daneshmand (US) from the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. Prof. Daneshmand answers questions about the SunRISe-1 trial, which he presented at the 'late-breaking oncology abstract session' during AUA2023. 

He discusses the study design, and delivers preliminary results from SunRISe-1 in patients with BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin) unresponsive high-risk non–muscle-invasive bladder cancer receiving TAR-200 in combination with cetrelimab, TAR-200, or cetrelimab alone. 

The promising findings from TAR-200 monotherapy showed an overall complete response rate of 73% in patients with high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) who were unresponsive to BCG. Prof. Daneshmand says the treatment was well-tolerated. Additionally, cetrelimab monotherapy demonstrated safety and efficacy profiles consistent with other anti-PD-L1 treatments in this disease setting.

In this podcast Prof. Nicolas Mottet and Prof. Phil Cornford discuss the 2023 EAU Guidelines for prostate cancer. The new recommendation is to investigate early detection of prostate cancer as part of the EU's new cancer strategy. 

They talk about active surveillance for low-risk prostate cancer patients to avoid over-treatment, as well as the PSMA staging process for high-risk disease, and a caution on altering treatment without sufficient evidence. The importance of standardised MRI procedures and the need for quality control to avoid unnecessary biopsies is also discussed. 

Prof. Dr. Nicolas Mottet (FR) is the chair of the EAU Guidelines prostate cancer panel. Prof. Phil Cornford (GB) is vice-chair of the same panel.

In this podcast, the new EAU ASCO Guidelines on penile cancer is discussed. The new guidelines are a total revision of prior versions and emphasises the importance of patient representatives and early palliative care. The panel collaborated with ASCO and integrated expertise from around the world. 

This expert panel talk about diagnosis and staging, with emphasis on HPV testing and minimally invasive approaches to lymph nodes. Also, treatment of the primary tumour, with recommendations for a balanced discussion with patients and acknowledgement of the risk of recurrence. Organ-sparing surgery was recommended in cases where it is safe, with consideration for the effects on quality of life (QoL).

The conversation was led by Oscar Brouwer (NL), co-chair of the EAU ASCO Guidelines on penile cancer. He spoke with Dr. Philippe Spiess (US), Dr. Maarten Albersen (BE) and Mr. Arie Parnham (GB), all members of the penile cancer panel.

In this episode, Prof. Evanguelos Xylinas (FR), a fellow of the European Board of Urology, and Prof. Fredrik Liedberg (SE) from Skåne University Hospital Malmö, share and review two difficult and exceptional bladder cancer cases.

In an interactive discussion, Prof. Xylinas and Prof. Liedberg go into detail on the treatment options, guidelines and complications.

In this episode, Dr. Hanny Cobussen-Boekhorst, a nurse practitioner (NP) and a member of the EAU guidelines panel for Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS), discusses her motivation and contribution to the guidelines panel.

Multidisciplinary collaboration is the future, and as a nurse, Dr. Cobussen-Boekhorst talks about the benefits of having a nurse-specialist involved in female LUTS management. Nurses have experience and expertise in providing a patient-centred approach, with a focus on quality of life and education. This is essential when investigating the best treatment options, teaching-guidance from start-to-end of treatment (such as intermittent catheterisation or stoma care), and follow-up.

Dr. Cobussen-Boekhorst shares her experience  as part of a multidisciplinary consultation for patients referred for urostomy, where a team of urologists, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals discuss the options and the patient's understanding of the procedure. 

Lastly, the importance of the EAUN guidelines for urostomy patients are discussed. These guidelines offer the latest medical insights, e.g., Bricker urostomy vs continent urostomy, with or without a bladder augmentation, stoma material, catheters.
