Effective listening skills at work are underrated and underused by far too many people trying to get their own messaging heard. Learn and practice how to listen effectively, and others will be a lot more prepared to listen to you.

Improving listening skills is about how to improve your communication skills , vital in any role and particularly so in management roles.

How to effectively listen to others is about how you provide feedback to the speaker to demonstrate you are listening attentively to what they are saying. Providing the right non-verbal feedback is very important which is trusted more than verbal feedback.

Verbal feedback to the speak also demonstrates you are effective listening.

Having great active listening skills will not help unless you also have an open mind and are willing to take in and consider what the other person is saying. Keep an open mind and show this to the speaker.

How to listen effectively in communication also includes remaining conscious of the speakers non-verbal communication and what this means for the message being delivered. Always take action and follow up – which could be simply remembering the key points and replaying them, or it might be providing help and support.

Finally I give additional tips on how to improve listening skills at the end of the video.

Improving your effective listening skills, particularly as a manager, is one of the best time investments I can suggest you make.

Enjoy learning more from those around you.
