Eight One Sixty

This show is LIVE in the studio with one of the hardest working musicians in Kansas City, Kadesh Flow! He’s an emcee, a trombonist, a front person, a producer, an amazing collaborator, he just played at The Plaza Lighting Ceremony, and so much more. In 2021 he released about two dozen singles and also a full-length album, “Room Service 2”.

We talk about the past year in music for Kadesh and we also turn our airwaves over to him! He’s picked out a great lineup of music to feature on the show with selections from We The People featuring Eddie Moore, Adrian Truth produced by Dominique S., Jamar Rose, Alyssa Murray, The Black Creatures, Kemet Coleman, The Popper, They Call Me Sauce, and Effie.

We also talk about upcoming live shows on his calendar, including his project, Deshtet playing a free show on Saturday, December 18 at the coolest new spot in town, Nighthawk in the basement of Hotel Kansas City.

On this show we celebrate one of our favorite holidays of the year, it’s Mark Manning Day! Mark Manning is our friend and DJ from KKFI 90.1 FM, a couple clicks down the dial from us.

Every year he hosts an amazing BEST OF list on his radio show, the Wednesday MidDay Medley, where for 17 years he’s been sharing great music from KC musicians and beyond. Every Wednesday in December from 10AM-noon he will host his “120 Favorite Recordings of 2021.”

On our show this week we get a sneak peek of some of the acts that are on his impressive list. On the show we hear from Riley The Musician, True Lions, Claire Adams, Knife Crime, Effie, Cuee, Kadesh Flow, FlareThaRebel, Monta At Odds, and The Roseline.

My love of KC music traces back to Frogpond in the mid-1990s and I’m so excited to sit down with Heidi Phillips and talk for an hour, Sarah Bradshaw will also be on the show! We play music spanning Heidi’s music career. Hear from well-known Frogpond albums, two songs from the brand new album, as well as one song from the very hard-to-find EP, only available on cassette called 2%.

Also hear from projects that Heidi worked on along the way like Abilene, playing under her own name, and also a team-up with Danny Krause. We go from 1994 to 2021 over the course of the hour on this episode of the Eight One Sixty.

We kick off the show talking about a very cool event happening this Thursday on Veterans Day, “Pints With A Purpose” and then jump into some new releases from KC musicians.

This Thursday is Veterans Day and Drexel Hall/The Irish Center of Kansas City is hosting a benefit concert for James Carter aka Sarge, a Marine Veteran, founder of You Found Music, and huge supporter of KC music. Everyone is invited to hear some great music in the beautiful setting of the Irish Center (my wedding reception was there!). Five acts will play from 6-9PM: Timbers, Nicki White, The David Luther, Sam Wells, and Alisa Jefferson - we hear from those last two on this week’s show!

After that, we jump into new releases from The Grisly Hand, A.M. Merker, STEDDY P., Melissa Mayhew, Jaclyn Bell, PURE XTC, and Redder Moon.

It's a 3-ring circus and we kick off the show by announcing the line-up for one of my favorite events of every year, Apocalypse Meow hosted by Midwest Music Foundation, happening virtually on Saturday, November 6 with 5 bands playing live sets at recordBar. We play music from 4 of those acts on the show.
