On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, we turn our attention to upcoming virtual events. KC is knocking it out of the park right now on virtual happenings. Save the dates on these events and get ready to fire up your computer or fancy TVs to watch:

At the top of the show, we'll announce this year's lineup for the 13th annual Apocalypse Meow - the amazing annual fundraiser for Midwest Music Foundation, who work hard all year long to help musicians when they need emergency medical care. Then we'll talk about Troostival, Ameri'kana and Thundergong.

We'll play music from acts that are playing each of those events, including The Freedom Affair, Kadesh Flow, Making Movies, Sensational Barnes Brothers, Nathaniel Rateliff and Brandi Carlile. We'll also hear a brand new single from KC's own Dreamgirl. Do you follow them on Spotify? They have over 240,000 monthly listeners and over 40 million spins there.

This week's episode of the Eight One Sixty is all about new music! We've got new and recent releases from several acts, including Jo MacKenzie, Heart Machine, Dandelions, Shadow Figures, Monta At Odds, Daniel Gum, X.WILSON, Paris Williams and a recent release from Silver Girl.

We’ll also play one from Larsen, who is performing at The Sound of Kansas City — a massive outdoor, socially distanced event happening at Liberty Memorial this Sunday, Oct. 18. The event features about 20 acts, with DJs and bands playing all day, and we'll be broadcasting live from there!

On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, it’s all about safe and socially distanced shows happening in October. Before we get into that, we’ll take a moment to remember long-time KC musician Steve Phillips. Steve passed away last week, and was a force in the Kansas City music community and beyond — having been in projects like The Rainmakers and The Elders. We’ll play some music from The Elders and share a couple stories to honor Steve.

On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, it’s all about new and recent releases. Also, as today marks five weeks till the election, we’ll start the show with some words of wisdom from KC’s own Janelle Monáe, and Chris will share his absentee voting story — it’s so easy and you (KCMO residents) can vote right now at Union Station.

We’re going to hear two songs from each of these acts, from their new releases: Crystal Rose, Miki P & the Swallowtails, and The Freedom Affair — did you know they were just featured in an Apple Watch commercial? 

We’ll also hear a brand new one from Ebony Tusks that doesn’t come out until Nov. 6. It’s so good you’re going to want to preorder the album. We’ll hear a recently released single from Kerosene Culture and from St. Louis, we’ll hear from Slow Dress.

This week's episode of the Eight One Sixty is all about recordBar and its 15th anniversary!

To sum up the importance of recordBar to the KC music scene on a local and national level would be impossible. What co-owners Steve Tulipana and Shawn Sherrill created 15 years ago has left a lasting impression on this city as well as touring bands all around the globe.

Like so many things right now, the venue is going through difficult times and they've created a Kickstarter campaign with amazing ways to celebrate the venue. They've got face masks, 15th anniversary tees, 15th anniversary posters and more! Even the autographed records that once lined the walls are up for grabs. Their special edition tees and posters have hundreds of band names on them that have played at the venue — perhaps your favorite band is on there!

Chris will play music from some of his favorite concerts at the venue — including one national act that really got everything started for the venue, a band that Jacki Becker booked there way back on Oct. 30, 2005. Also, he'll play music from a couple shows he regrets missing. Did you know that in the same week, Billie Eilish (April 14, 2018) and Phoebe Bridgers (April 19, 2018) both played recordBar?

On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, we turn our attention to Crossroads Music Fest. This year for the 16th annual event, like so many things, it's a little different. This Saturday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 10 p.m., visit CMFKC's Facebook page to watch a LIVESTREAM of the event featuring eight different acts — a very diverse lineup of acts and genres. Cheers to Bill Sundahl, our friend at KKFI 90.1 FM, for continuing to push so many great KC musicians.

On the radio show today, we'll talk about and play music from all eight acts performing at CMF: Soul Servers, Ezgi Karakus & John Livingston, Reptil, Laura Noble, Julia Othmer, We The People featuring Eddie Moore, The Royal Chief and Calvin Arsenia.

This week's episode of Eight One Sixty is all about Kansas City Irish Fest — happening this Saturday, Sept. 5, virtually on your computer and in communal watch parties around KC as the Fest Where You Are benefit concert. Chris sits down (via Zoom) with KCIF music director David Shaughnessy (A.K.A. Shocko) to get all the info about this year's pivoted festival.

Traditionally, KCIF brings tens of thousands of people to Crown Center, gathering musicians from across the globe. This year, they've had to adjust. 

This Saturday night, from 7 to 9 p.m., some of KC's best musicians create an Irish mixtape, of sorts. Each act will perform one song by celebrated Irish acts (it will only stream once): Calvin Arsenia, Ashley Davis, Eddie Delahunt, Maria The Mexican, Enrique Chi of Making Movies, Ian & Kian Byrne of The Elders, Madisen Ward of Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear, Victor & Penny, Katy Guillen of Katy Guillen and The Drive, and Carswell & Hope, who is the backing band for the evening. In addition to the above KC acts playing, several acts from across the pond will join it too, including Aoife Scott, Byrne and Kelly, Corner Boy, Gaelic Storm, Oscar Blue, Shane Hennessy and We Banjo 3. 

On the show, we’ll talk about other ways to join in the celebration and we’ll also play music from several of the acts listed above. 

This week's Eight One Sixty celebrates the 100th birthday of Charlie "Bird" Parker! Chris reached out to several Kansas City-based jazz musicians, including Hermon Mehari, Eddie Moore, Jackie Myers, Logan Richardson, Kadesh Flow, Ernest Melton and maybe more. We'll share thoughts and music from their catalogs inspired by the legendary musician. 

This week's episode of Eight One Sixty highlights Greenline Grows KC: A Benefit for The Greenline Initiative, a livestream benefit concert coming up on Friday, Aug. 28. On the show we’ll sit down with one of the founders of The Greenline Initiative, Ajia Morris, and musician Khrystal. 

The virtual concert event will feature music from Radkey, The Greeting Committee, Khrystal., Danny Cox + Bob Walkenhorst, Cuee, Enrique Chi of Making Movies + Las Hermanas Altoro, Stephonne, Krystle Warren, They Call Me Sauce and The Phantastics. We'll play music from several of these acts on the show.

All money raised from the virtual event will benefit The Greenline Initiative, which is a Black family-owned organization in Kansas City that uses crowdsourced funding to help historically marginalized and low-income populations in our city buy and renovate the houses they rent.
