December 01, 2023Our chat with Julian Vignoles + Eurovision 2024 Updates! On this episode of Éirevision, Conor and Lou are joined by Julian Vignoles. Julian was known as Mr.Eurovision within RTÉ as he served as the Irish Head of Delegation from 2005 until 2012. He was also a member of the Eurovision Reference Group for four years. His time as head of delegation came at a very turbulent period for Ireland at the contest and Eurovision itself. He oversaw many changes to Ireland's selection process and many changes to the contest with the introduction of semi-finals, the re-introduction of juries, and penalties for certain countries after rule breaks. Julian shares many fascinating stories with us, including his talks with the late Sinéad O'Connor to take part for Ireland in 2010. We also chat to Julian about his thoughts on Ireland's current position within Eurovision and what changes he would like to see in order to improve results going forward. We would also highly encourage you to read Julian's book entitled "Inside the Eurovision Song Contest". It is a fascinating read! Also in this episode, we take a look at what's been happening in the Eurovision world since we last spoke to you. October 25, 2023An interview with Michael Kealy! On this episode of Éirevision, Conor and Lou are joined in the Podcast Studios by the Irish head of delegation and RTÉ executive producer, Michael Kealy. Following on from his in-depth interview with Éirevision last December, Kealy is back to chat all things Eurovision and where exactly Ireland lies within the contest. We kick things off where we left things last year: Eurosong 2023. We learn about how Public Image Ltd and John Lydon came to be involved in Eurosong and why he continued to take part despite bashing the contest publicly. After failing to make the final yet again, we ask Kealy his thoughts on why we are failing at Eurovision. Of course, the headlines during the summer months all evolved around the state of RTÉ and its finances. We ask Kealy about its impact on Eurovision and if a standalone national final is on the cards in the future. The lack of a social media presence, exploding cakes, artists tweets, and what's to come in 2024 are just some of the other topics discussed! Be sure to sit back, relax, and enjoy! July 11, 2023Ireland: What should we do next? - Part 2It's our season finale! In the second part of our special two-part season finale, we're looking towards the future and sharing our thoughts on this question: What should Ireland do next? With Ireland's record of seven wins now equalled by Sweden and another 'failed to qualify' sticker added to our record, the movement for change is well under way. With the national media now joining the conversation and asking the question about Ireland's position within the Eurovision Song Contest, it seems the nation really want to see Ireland's fortunes change. We want to share our opinions on what Ireland should/needs to do going forward. Without being critical, we're aiming to have a healthy discussion and look ahead. We'll be discussing everything from national final versus internal selection, budget, innovation, and social media/online engagement. In our first part, Conor and Lou shared their opinions about what Ireland should do. In this part of the episode, Conor and Lou are joined by four very special guests from the Eurovision community.
