57 años después de su estreno se reedita por primera vez en vinilo el segundo álbum de Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. Fantástico e infravalorado trabajo que pasó desapercibido en su día, “The night and day of…” marcó un regreso del legendario vocalista, inmortalizado por su cancionero macabro y sus teatrales shows de los años 50, que en este disco demostró su enorme valía como intérprete de blues y rhythm and blues, con tintes de soul o de jazz, sin necesidad de calaveras, huesos ni alaridos enloquecidos.

Suenan otras recientes reediciones de valor arqueológico realizadas por el sello potugués Groovie Records (que desentierra a los brasileños Nichollas Mariano y Marcos Vermelho o al grupo de garage estadounidense The Blue Condition), o los sellos nacionales Madmua Records (rescatando a los argentinos Grupo Uno) y Discos Colombo (recordando a los bolivianos Laser).

Hace 40 años, en abril de 1983, se lanzaba uno de los debuts más influyentes y cautivadores del rock’n’roll. A pesar de su escaso éxito comercial el primer álbum de Violent Femmes convirtió al trío de Milwaukee en una de las bandas más importantes de aquel rock alternativo que emergió desde las universidades norteamericanas. Recordamos en este episodio los primeros trabajos de Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie y Victor DeLorenzo, con su evolución desde el folk acústico de actitud punk rocker hacia el country y la música de raíces o hacia su sonido más mainstream y producido.
