En la primera mitad de los años 60 el Twist se convirtió en una moda imparable que alcanzó a todo tipo de artistas y estilos, situándose como la punta de lanza -y como el baile más famoso- de lo que se conoció como la fiebre del baile. El twist original lo lanzó Hank Ballard con sus Midnighters a finales de 1958 y fue un pequeño éxito para la famosa banda de Detroit.
