In breaking news for Arizona State Sun Devils football - Herm Edwards has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of the program. Edwards, in just over four seasons with the Sun Devils, had a combined record of 26-20 with no losing seasons and a 1-2 bowl game record. Edwards entered the 2022 season on the hot seat following a massively underwhelming 2021 season in which Arizona State Sun Devils football was expected to compete for a PAC-12 conference title. ASU then underwent a massive and still ongoing investigation of recruiting violations under COVID-19 protocols. As if this wasn't enough, Edwards saw 16 players leave the program this offseason via the NCAA Transfer Portal and had to replace both of his coordinators within the last 12 months. Edwards's firing feels long overdue, but it nonetheless comes as a bit of a surprise.
