In this episode Steve joins successful English Coonhound breeder Murray Ragan of
Tennessee in a discussion that explores the nuances of coon hunting in the 160-
thousand acre Dale Bumpers White River National Wild Refuge. Steve and Murray
recap their experiences hunting the refuge and discuss the changes they have
experienced in their combined sixteen years of hunting there.

The conversation turns to a discussion of Ragan’s English Coonhound Hatchie River
Dottie and his quest to achieve a reproduction record for female coonhounds. Dottie
has, to date, produced thirty pups that have earned the United Kennel Club’s coveted
Nite Champion title, more than any other coonhound female in the history of organized
competition.

The interview with Ragan, staged in a wooded setting along the banks of Arkansas’
famed White River, runs deep into many areas of hunting and breeding coonhounds
and the camaraderie between these two friends, brought together by the love of a good
hound, flows as smoothly as the mighty river itself.
