In 2025, proposed tariffs from the Trump administration could drive up the cost and shrink the supply of some of the most commonly used prescription drugs — especially thyroid meds like levothyroxine, liothyronine, and natural desiccated thyroid, hormone replacement therapy for perimenopause and menopause, and even GLP-1 drugs like semaglutide and tirzepatide — and yes, that includes Wegovy and Zepbound and compounded GLPs.

What’s going on? It all comes down to potential tariffs on imported pharmaceuticals and their ingredients — most of which come from China and India. And generic drugs? They’re especially at risk, since they depend heavily on international manufacturing and already run on razor-thin margins.

The goal is to boost U.S. drug production, but here’s the catch: that shift won’t happen overnight. Experts say we could see higher prices and even more shortages before things get better.
