For years I covered stories about the LGBTQIA+ community with a focus on the transgender medicine, the community and their stories.  With over 1.4 million Americans identifying as transgender or non-binary, there is still a lot of work to be done when it comes to showing up for others and ourselves. With anti-trans rhetoric and legislation at all-time highs, now more than ever, listening to the experience of the trans community is vital. As an ally and in honor of transgender awareness week, I reconnected with my friend, Katy Tierney. Katy is an endocrinologist and also the medical director of  Center for Gender Medicine and Wellness at Middlesex Health in Connecticut. During our conversation we talk everything from pronouns and not putting oneself in a box to the brain/body connection and how the decisions we make and those made by our lawmakers can have a powerful impact on the wellbeing of our trans community. Plus we break down the resources that are available.
