A doctor’s primary goal should be maximizing patient recovery by minimizing pain and restoring normal function.
In this episode of Victim to Victory: The Personal Injury Playbook, Lawrence LeBrocq invites Dr. David Porter, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine at Progressive Spine & Orthopedics. In this episode, Dr. Porter shares his expertise on personal injury cases and reveals the latest data and techniques being used for ACL surgeries, as well as minimally invasive procedures for shoulder, knee, and hip surgeries, and joint replacements. He also discusses the ethical considerations and the importance of conservative care before jumping into surgery and he touches on how healthcare professionals work together and coordinates patient care, despite the challenges of treating chronic pain.
Dr. Porter is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon that specializes in sports medicine issues such as knee and shoulder pain. He earned his medical degree at Rutgers Medical School. From there, he went on to become the Chief Resident in Orthopaedic Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Dr. Porter expanded his knowledge in the field further by completing a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Miami Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute. During his fellowship, Dr. Porter focused on minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques for the treatment of sports-related injuries. Throughout his career he has worked with numerous athletic teams, most notably the NHL Florida Panthers, the NBA Heat and the NFL Miami Dolphins. After living in Miami, Dr. Porter moved back to Manhattan where he now practices in Northern New Jersey and operates at multiple hospitals.
Dr. Porter underscores the importance of a patient-centered approach, continuous learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and proactive management of chronic pain in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.
