Steven Rothberg is the Founder of College Recruiter job search site, which believes that every student and recent graduate deserves a great career...and that it should be easy and inexpensive for employers to hire them. Each year, more than 12 million students, recent graduates, and other early career candidates use College Recruiter to help them find part-time, seasonal, internship, and other early career job opportunities almost anywhere globally.
Steven founded the company out of which College Recruiter grew way back in 1991. He had just graduated from law school, passed the bar, and was working as a lawyer when he decided to get out of law to, as he says, enjoy his life. He invested almost all of his savings -- about $200 -- to buy business cards, letterhead, and a fax machine. He then convinced a number of departments at his alma matter, the University of Minnesota, to allow his little business to publish their official campus map for them. He gave the school the maps for free, they distributed them to students, and the company earned its revenues from the sale of advertising around the edges of the maps. That led to also publishing employment magazines called College Recruiter and that led to the first version of the company's website going live in 1996. By 2000, the company had shutdown the profitable maps and magazines to focus on the website.

- Why low-skill jobs see higher application rates than specialized roles.
- How AI has disrupted various industries, including job search and recruitment.

Gregory Mohr is a visionary entrepreneur, Wall Street Journal Best Selling author, and the driving force behind Franchise Maven. Gregory's journey from a seasoned micro-electric circuit engineer to the CEO and founder of a thriving franchise empire is nothing short of inspiring. In his two compelling books, Real Freedom: Why Franchises Are Worth Considering and How They Can Be Used For Building Wealth and Expert Resilience: How Entrepreneurs Are Leading the Future in Mind, Mastery, and Meaning. Gregory shares the central theme of his life's work: the transformative power of franchising. Drawing on his vast experience as a restaurant manager, engineer, and franchise owner, Gregory offers a roadmap to financial freedom through the strategic investment in franchises.
Gregory's early days as a restaurant manager marked the genesis of his expertise as a turnaround specialist for distressed businesses. His key insight? Success hinges on how employees are treated. This foundational principle became the cornerstone of his approach to business and franchise ownership – listen to your team, address their concerns, and treat them with respect.
This simple yet powerful philosophy laid the groundwork for Gregory's success in various ventures, from dry cleaners to storage units.
As the CEO and founder of Franchise Maven, Gregory has been a guiding force for hundreds of individuals and business owners, helping them navigate the complex world of franchising. His track record speaks volumes – 260 people empowered to open 500 franchise territories under his guidance.
Gregory's journey took a turn when, inspired by the Rich Dad/Poor Dad series, he pursued an MBA and transitioned from engineering to business ownership. The desire to own his own business led him to explore franchise opportunities, and with his firsthand experience, Gregory is uniquely equipped to guide others.
Having faced the pitfalls of ignoring critical criteria, Gregory candidly shares his own missteps. A business-to-business sales and service franchise, contrary to his preference for a home-based business, taught him valuable lessons. Through this experience, Gregory discovered his passion for investigating business opportunities and assisting prospective franchise owners in avoiding the pitfalls he encountered.
Listen to this informative Sharkpreneur episode with Greg Mohr about finding the perfect business fit.
Here are some of the beneficial topics covered on this week’s show:
