Statistics don't lie: 2/3 or more of the candidates that show up to SFAS leave camp Mackall without a "selected" certificate. Although physical fitness is not the only requirement for getting selected, it's the foundation. To show up physically prepared, you need to do the right things in training. Recently, I've seen some "program advice" posts on reddit that include programs that look more like soup sandwiches than an actual selection prep program. Because of this, I felt compelled to make a full episode discussing how to make sure your program is leading you to the primised land (showing up prepared) rather than leading you to non-select status.
This episode includes 8 specific questions you can ask yourself about certain aspects of your program, which can be used as a litmus test to ensure you're on the right track.
The question categories include: Specificity (am I training for the right things?), Dogma (am I doing the right exercises for me?), Lifting volume (am I doing too much in the gym?), Conditioning volume/intensity (am I doing the right amount of conditioning and conducting it at an appropriate intensity), Redundancy (am I doing essentially the same exercises too often?), Structure (does my weekly training structure account for recovery and managing stressors?), Training vs/ testing (am I training, or am I testing my progress too often?), extra fluff (does my program contain extra training that will fatigue me more so than actually help me improve?)
In each gategory, I get into specific areas of your program to look at, and offer potential solutions to make sure you're doing the appropriate things.
