Espooky Tales

La Viuda Negra is a woman, spending eternity seeking revenge. This legend is most commonly heard in South America, specifically Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. It bears similarities to the legends of La Siguanaba and La Llorona. Don't roam after midnight for one does not survive an encounter with her.

The legend of the Lechuza is one familiar to many Mexican and Mexican-American people. Sightings of this giant white owl (though sometimes black) have been reported in the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas and in Rio grande Valley of Texas and California, especially southern CA. Legend tells that the Lechuza is a witch who seeks revenge and is said to carry off people to eat, whistle like a baby to lure you outside and more. We also share other stories of witches and owls, and how many cultures across the world view owls.

Has anyone else had the feeling that we are not alone? UFO sightings are the most reported paranormal encounter in the world and today our guest, a long time friend of MJ, shares an espooky encounter with us. This encounter took place in Modesto, CA, why is it always Modesto? MJ shares a story from a small town in Mexico and the most famous sighting from Brazil, from Varginha in 1996 and we share the tale of the strange dead zone, La Zona de Silenco (the Zone of Silence), found in the Mapimi Desert of Durango, Mexico. An area where many believed UFO sightings have occurred.

CW: Story contains abuse, child abuse, and death

The story of La Llorona is one as old as time, the origin of the story is unknown, but it dates back to colonial times. It is safe to say every Latinx child was once afraid to hear “ay mis hijos”. We share the legend everyone knows, but we also share a less known version of la Llorona, once that MJ heard years ago and the legend of La Llorona de San Pablo Del Monte. San Pablo Del Monte is a town in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala. Vanessa, host of Life with Paranormal V and our guest for this episode, shares an extra espooky story with us.

Many mines have a rich but troubling history. We share the legend of El Jergas, a ghost in the abandoned mines of Real de Catorce in San Luis Potosi, Mexico and the famous Mina Dos Estrellas located in Michoacan, Mexico (a mine so scary it was featured on MTV’s Fear twice).  Albie Robles, voice actor and host of the amazing Scare Me podcast, joins us to share his espooky experience in a mining town.

El Hombre Del Saco is a legend told to children in Spain, Brazil, Portugal, Chile and Argentina (it is known as El Viejo Del Saco /the old man with a bag  in Chile and Argentina) and as El Roba Chicos (child stealer) in Mexico.  A real crime in Spain in the year 1910 caused the legend to spread and for parents and children alike to fear El Hombre Del Saco.  We  explore  Sack Man legends from all over the world, and came by a really surprising boogeyman figure from Hungary called Rézfaszú Bagoly.

El Padre sin Cabeza (the Headless Priest) is a legend that has become part of Salvadoran folklore, but it is a tale that can be heard in almost every Latin American country, though each version varies. We share the version from El Salvador, as well as Mexico and Guatemala.

In El Salvador, this legend originates from the Spanish Inquisition and In Mexico it originates from la guerra de los cristeros (the Cristero war).  We do share some thoughts on the 1/6/21 attack on the capitol building, so if you want to skip that and go straight to the legend, go to 5:35
