Espooky Tales

Shadow people are entities known worldwide, and their existence (or believed existence) goes back to ancient times. Stories of them can be seen in Egyptian folklore, Greek Mythology, the Quran and more. Shadow people are the most reported paranormal encounter across the world. We begin with a very short story written by yours truly (Cristina), then we discuss shadow people and MJ shares her personal encounters with them.

The legend of the Cuetlaxochitl, now more commonly called the Poinsettia or the Christmas flower, has a long history in Mexico. Before the Spanish, it had different medicinal uses and one 16th century legend would forever associate it with Christmas.

We (Cristina & MJ) also share Christmas traditions we grew up with, different Christmas traditions around Latin America, we talk about El Dia de los Reyes Magos, some St Nicholas history and we end the episode with an Espooky Christmas story (around minute 34:00 if you want to skip all the Christmas stuff and go straight to the espooky stuff).

The Huay Chivo is a humanoid creature, usually depicted as a half-man/half-goat. The legend is heard in the Yucatec-Maya region and truly feared. In Yucatan, it is common to hear: “Beware of walking after midnight in the places where the Huay Chivo goes, because this being of darkness can put all kinds of wickedness on you". We share the origins of the legend, sightings and other similar legends. CW- content warning, animal rituals & deaths are discussed in this episode.

El Cadejo is part of Central American folklore. It is a dog-like creature, and there is a white Cadejo and black Cadejo, one protects you and the other kills you. Where did El Cadejo come from? It could be a pre-hispanic belief, inluenced by colonization. The Cadejo is said to have been created by God, while the Black Cadejo is sometimes said to be the Devill himself. * Apologies for the sound quality, Cristina made a rookie mistake & accidentally recorded the entire episode without her mic
