On this episode of #LatinosOutLoud, @RachelLaLoca has the honor of chatting with Mexican comedy legend, Eugenio Derbez. After a decade-long hiatus, Eugenio returns to Spanish-language comedy on the new VIX series Y Llegaron de Noche (They Came at Night).
The two chat about the inspiration behind the beautifully shot, Old Hollywood-style comedy series; the little known 1931 Spanish language version of Dracula! Rachel also brings Eugenio back to his childhood, growing up on similar sets with his mother, iconic actress, Silvia Derbez.
Inspired by true events, the hilarious comedy tells the behind-the-scenes story of how a group of Latinos created the ultimate Dracula film, one that few have seen: the Spanish-language version of the classic 1931 film. While Bela Lugosi filmed by day, another cast and crew arrived at night to produce the Spanish-language film, using the same set, costumes and a translated script. Working from dusk till dawn, they created, against all odds, a version superior to the original. The cast includes Diana Bovio, Laura Ferreti, Manuel “El Flaco” Ibañez, Daniel Sosa, John Goodrich, Federico Espejo, Daniel Raymond, Gerardo Velazquez and Fernando Memije.
The series was created and written by Rob Greenberg and Bob Fisher (“The Valet” and “Overboard”). Ben Odell, Eugenio Derbez and Javier Williams are the executive producers on behalf of 3Pas Studios. Eugenio Derbez is also showrunner and director of the pilot. Jorge Ulloa, Pipe Ybarra and Alessandro Damiani are also directors and the production work of Y LLEGARON DE NOCHE is in charge of Visceral, with Pablo Calasso as its executive producer.
