  • A year of crucial elections in Europe
We take a look back at elections in some of the EU's biggest countries. Back in March, the Netherlands got the ball rolling with its parliamentary polls. The party of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte managed to retain its position as the largest in parliament even if it did lose seats, while the party of far right anti-immigration, anti-EU candidate Geert Wilders made gains. Nonetheless, it was seen as a win for the EU as the populists did not take over.

  • One year after Brexit, where is the EU headed?
This week we're taking a look back at some of the more defining moments of the year so far. It's now been 12 months since the UK voted to leave the EU. Brexit negotiations have only just begun, getting underway with a British prime minister who now leads a minority government, having called snap elections and lost a number of seats. We travelled to the UK just ahead of the last parliamentary polls and spoke to Conservative MEP Charles Tannock.

  • UK holds crucial election, one year after Brexit (part 2)
In this second part of Europe Now, we leave the pro-Remain capital and head to the north of the country, to Yorkshire, where the Leave vote was victorious. Our guest is Richard Corbett, a Labour MEP, who shows us the two sides of the region – to Leeds, which narrowly voted to stay a year ago, and to Bradford, where the choice went the other way.

Brussels hosts the European Parliament and Commission - how does this affect the everyday lives of Belgians? How do European diplomats and Brussels locals coexist? We went to find out. We embark on a guided tour of Belgium, a small and prosperous territory, in the company of locals and lawmakers. Belgian MEP Hilde Vautmans (ADLE) shows us around Brussels’s downtown district as well as her home region of Sint-Truiden.

  • Italy challenged by populism
The eurozone's third-largest economy, Italy is struggling with high unemployment and towering debt. One political party, the Five Star Movement, blames a lot of the country's financial woes on the EU and wants to put the country's membership of the euro to a referendum. The Five Star movement was launched in 2009 by former comedian Beppe Grillo. It started as a web-based organisation focused on uncovering corruption in politics, but today some of its own politicians stand accused of graft.

  • 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome: What's to celebrate?
60 years ago, on March 25 1957, the leaders of six countries sat down in Rome to sign the treaty which established the European Economic Community, the basis of the EU today.
